What are some good movies to rent?

List your suggestions here.

No one...come on people...10 minutes till home time. I need a movie to rent.

GeoffZ 06-25-2004 04:49 PM

Cold Mountain just came out on DVD.

We recently rented 50 first dates. It isn't an oscar winner but very cute and entertaining.

Anything 80s... or Can't Hardly Wait. Whenever I can't decide, that's the one I get.

I loved loved loved "Something's Gotta Give"!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are renting Along Came Polly tonight--I will report on it later!

ADPiAkron 06-27-2004 11:35 AM

I watched Along Came Polly....my boyfriend laughed hysterically while I just thought it was silly....so if you cannot find anything else to rent- rent this one! I give it a B.

On the other hand I really enjoyed Miracle...the story about the 1980 Olympic Hockey Team! Very interesting and heart wrenching! Rent this one! I give it an A!!

The Life of David Gale...or Along Came Polly

If you love Rock and Roll, rent The Last Waltz by The Band. It was directed by Martin Scorcese, and in my opinion, its the best rock movie ever made.

It was The Band's final concert before the original lineup broke up for good. Some friends joined them on stage; Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, and more.

Absolutely amazing. I've probably seen it 100 times, and I never get tired of it.

The Royal Tenenbaums. We rented it so much that we decided to buy it, and we seriously watch it all the time.

the unrated version of "Bad Santa" is def. a must see!

It's seriously hilarious :)

Fried Green Tomatoes is an all time favorite.

Playing by Heart is my favorite movie, and not many people I know have seen it.
Actors include: Ryan Phillipe, Sean Connery, Gillian Anderson, Jon Stewart, Angelina Jolie, Dennis Quaid, etc etc etc .
A very sweet, dramatic, funny movie.

I ended up renting Mystic River and Calendar Girls.

Both were great movies. Mystic River is so sad and depressing, but I definitly see why Sean Penn won the Oscar. he gave a fantastic performance.

Calendar Girls was funny, touching and sweet. Most definitly a chick flick though.

--I didn't like 21 Grams but some people might so check that out.

9 Dead Gay Guys is a funny movie.

bluefish81 06-28-2004 10:01 PM

My roommate and I rented "In America" a few weeks ago. We both thought it was great.

Starship Troopers: Hero of the Federation just came out on DVD- if you saw the first Starship Troopers movie, I recommend this one. The plotline sticks within a small time frame and only in one location.

I saw Osama, that was a good movie.

The Last Samurai was good. Kinda depressing but good.

Thinking of a ton right now, but here are the most recent:
Lost in Translation (liked it a lot, ended up buying it)
Raising Arizona

I hated the last samurai. You want to watch a cliche with moving pictures, then this would be a good movie. At first I liked it because of a few of the shots...but the more I thought about it, ugh.

I wasn't happy that Tom Cruise was able to "become" a Samurai over night when people train YEARS for it. But I think it was a good movie.

:) So the whole, look at us we're sticking to our old ways and are pure good while these evil new people with technology are replacing us thing didn't bother you?

Don't edit me again Breathesgelatin when I didn't violate any rule. Edit me and I will post this again and again and again. You took out a part where I said something along the lines of "so polar...so black...so white...so good....so bad". Should you lack the education or understanding of what this means, ask. Don't make ASSumptions and make yourself look bad, OK?

I'm confused by the question. I thought that desire to modernization shouldn't mean that a country has to destroy a valuable part of their culture.

Except that wasn't the case...it wasn't about old vs new. It was good old vs bad new.
