It *is* interesting...
If this is the "cookout" in Atlanta that I'm thinking of (the one attended by Jesse Bridges) and it has female brothers of Alpha Phi Omega attending (and welcome) then I really would like to know (and I'm know of at least one RD would like to know as well)

unless some things have changed... which they could have.. its interesting to me.. but hey i aint an apo so i am gonna exit stage left and get out yall biz... |
well i, deaconess, well be there this weekend in full force. happy and proud with my a phi q family. however, i wont over step my boundaries of the men in a phi q. well, i just might..watch me psi phi.. you know how i do..lol
president pollard might exit from me..and psi phi knows how she gets down.lol |
i understand you wanting to go but why got o casue trouble, this is only a one year event for the male chapters, i mean its not like it goes on all the time and why would you want to mess it up, i mean the all male chapter dont go to the co-ed events and try to mess it up at all, i know i will be there and having a good time, i dont care about a apo female in any way being there, this is about a-phi-que and gss getting together, also this isnt a recognized apo event so they can ask people to leave, so im just letting your know before someone gets gased up like there going to start the apo female revolution. lol but seriously if your going ou there to show love then thats cool and im no way i will allowed for yourt o get disrespected but just realize that your at a events that is for the male chapters of apo not for apo nationally. But if your coming then come have a good time and show respect for the event.
|
thanks for the invite..but i already received one when you put those letters on your chest. but there is at all no trouble here, my reason for going to to support my black men in alpha phi omega whether they are vikes or not. some men that will be there are my line bruhs that i shed tears with and for. they will step and they will win again, and i will be the first to scream and holla for them. its not about bringing drama to a gathering, i know this is an all male gathering with gamma sigs, but im supporting my chapter and the men that i brought into this organization. "I WILL SUPPORT" and "BE GLAD IN IT".
Thanks, Deaconess 12-psi phi-01 |
hey im not hating, i mean psi phi is where i learned at so im not hating and a female im really close to is from the rechartering line of psi phi so i will never hate, i was just making the statement that all, psi phi my second home. every year there are psi phi girls there, i knwo i wil be chillin with my baby so its all good, But i do know some girls come and take things to far. when there really is no need for it. thats all im saying, i cant tellu not to go and i dont think i would ever do that, but just know the environment your getting in and expect some looks.
|
That's my PreZ!!!! Deaconess you are and forever will be my gyrl. You are too much!!!
Diva i'm glad you think it will be interesting, I hope you enjoy yourself, maybe we can meet up...if I decide to come. Cassanova it might be an aphiq/gss thing, but you have to realize just becuz some bruhs don't want females there and some of y'all sorors don't want females there; that's not the opinion of everyone. I've been invited to this gathering by both vikes in all male and in co-ed chapters. You say that some girls take it too far, but so do some guys. If I decide to come, it will not be to disrespect, but to support, but if someone gets wrong with me...male or female, it's going down. |
you are so right and i do appreciate you giving me the heads up. but i do know what youa re talking about, girls taking it too far. but, i look at it like this, dont start nothing, wont be nothing. and im going to chill and kick it. im not going to show off my letters and wear them on every inch of body.i know who i am, and others do too, but atl is not the place for that. it time to let loose and meet new brothers and sigs.
but i hope we run into each other.. look me up. they call me deaconess, president pollard, kp, "the 16", "the elite 8", but whatever you call me i'm sure to be there. how about you call me...bruh..lol..now that;s funny.. deaconess |

Look, you can be The Oracle or you can be Trinity. You can't be both!!! ;) |
that's funny... which one is she....
|
i think i am steering clear of atl this year
WAY too much drama for the kid i am too old for this smh |

why?? atl is for fun. this is a discussion board. other people and i are discussing things that are just so happen to be the bad side of the event..(in the past) but i do think this year it will be different..like you said, people have grown up and understand there place. now if they dont understand their place, those are the ones to stay at home...

On behalf of Gamma Sigs
I believe that I can speak for all gamma sigs when I say....."THAT WE HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH FEMALE APO'S COMING....YA NEED TO HOLLA AT YA BRUHS".......but hey im looking forward to having fun next weekend :)
*Dont start no____ wont be no ____* Dat Trey Defiance #3 Zeta Tau |
Anywayssss. I too will be in Atl. Its been a few years for me and I had a great time despite some of the drama from 2000. I had a chance to meet a lot of the Vikes and Gamma Sig's. No one showed any hatred or ill feelings toward me. All of us females from Psi Phi know our boundaries and respect them so Mr. Casanova you dont have to be worried about any drama popping off cause its not even like that. Like deconess said I will be there rooting my bruh's on because they will be winning the step show down there. I just had to put my two cents in.

Wow, I'm mad a simple question turned into two pages already. Now that I said that, I will say this (and this is my own opinion on this).
To answer Bro. Randy's question, yes this is the same Cookout that you speak of. I have been attending this ever since I crossed in 1998, and have served on the planning committee for almost 5 years. It truly is a fun event and the people who come to visit us always have a good time. I'm actually Co-Chair of this event this year (after 6 months of planning, I'm glad it's next week), and at least from a sorority perspective, we have been keeping our Nationals abreast of the events going on that weekend. Now to answer somebody else's question, the "Cookout" was indeed designed for the MALE members of the fraternity--just a time where they could get together and fellowship as bruhs. I say "bruhs" and not "brothers" because women weren't in that equation. As sexist or separatist as that may sound, that's just what this Cookout was made for--and this I learned from the brother who hosted the first Cookout 12 years ago from out of his own house. Even we Gamma Sigs weren't included in the beginning, but as time went on and the event got larger, we were invited to come as sisters. Actually I think it would be safe to say that Gamma Sigs LARGELY planned this event this year. My take on it is this: If female members of the fraternity wish to come down, then I will welcome you. And contrary to popular belief, other bruhs would as well. But I would say to you to be respectful of what the event was made for, and that's all I'll say about it. I see one or two of you ladies have been down already, so you know what I'm talking about. There's no need to come down ready to fight or defend yourselves--hell you earned your letters like everybody else has done. Come down and have a good time--because when it comes right down to it, that's what you'll be doing. |

I have to agree with CAS on this one. This is the only event that Male chapters have with the Gamma Sigs. Why can't you let us have that. Why do you want to be there. This is not an Alpha Phi Omega event, but an Ay-Phi-Que event. I'm sure you worked hard for Alpha Phi Omega, but the day I see a Female Ay-Phi-Que is the day that I will turn in my letters.
|
well u might as well turn your letters in now.
|
Wow!
|
i didnt think there was such a thing as a female aye-phi-que thats like a female viking... |

Dang!
Like a puppet with strings, somebody lives for creating drama, and as expected by them, somebody has felt the tug. Hat's off to all female that have came in the past and respected the event. Those that have, have never had any problems and received love just the same. There is a time for everything, and sometime the brothers need their time. I would never say that the sisters are largely planning this event. Every meeting have been equal in ideas and attendance. May be one more brother or one more soror, and a sweetheart that has definitely done more than several. Also there was a gamma sig who came to the first one or/and the second one. I think she still lives in Atlanta. The years where there was no GSS is 3 and 4. Year 5 had about 4 sorors, and 6 had about 25-30. year 7 was the GSS convention in Atlanta, and the cookout was actually moved to accomodate the sister that will be going to convention that same weekend. So that year there were over a hundred gamma sigs. And each year after that there as been over a hundred Gamma-Sigs. But this year, because of all the recent southern growth in GSS, there will probably be more sisters than ever. JayBEE! |

Female members of Alpha Phi Omega are just that female members of Alpha Phi Omega. The term Ay-Phi-Que was created and defended and has its very heritage embedded in the history of the all male chapters of Alpha Phi Omega. Other terms in from the all male chapters are Skeet, Viking, and Phyette, and some other things like handsign, calls, and other terms. Of course, nobody says that you can't use them. It just would be like a brother throwing up a Gamma Sig hand sign in a picture that I saw. You step away and safely say that he just didn't know what he was doing. What's the problem. Alpha Phi Omega females are born from an existence that don't have all that. The coed atmosphere never had an identity on a black campus. The first black campus of Alpha Phi Omega in the coed world, was by accident, Dillard in 1987. Even coed females attempted to be what they saw, instead of attempting just be in Alpha Phi Omega like most other females aphio's, where the main effort was in simple acceptance and service. |
Here we go with a history lesson. Didnt mean to create ruckus but I thought someone was saying that they didnt want to see any female APO's at the picnic or they would turn in their letters in. Thats why I said you might as well turn them in now. I didnt mean to offend you. When I hear aye-phi-que, I always think of myself cause that was what I was taught so sorry to you other chapters. Not saying that I am a Vike but us females from Psi Phi occasionally say that, especially those from the 99 line. No need for anyone to get hot and bothered.
|
Wow...
I will not even comment JayBee. All I'm going to say is, whoever comes down this next weekend, I hope you have a good time. This entire situation has left a bad impression on me. |
