Prince!

Okay, I know I am the Seasoned One on here but for me this weekend it was all about the Purple One.

Concert: Friday night 8:00pm-10:30pm. Non-stop music and party. On my feet all night. There's nothing like Prince in front of his hometown.

After Party: Paisley Park-midnight until 5:00am (we left at 4). Prince and Larry Graham.

So you see, the Seasoned One can hang with the Purple One. Oh yeah, my daughter flew in from NJ and hung too! :D

PRINCE4EVER!!!!

p.s. It was all clean and G-rated--music at it's finest.

Virtual Violet 06-21-2004 12:24 AM

I'm on the countdown to this Friday, June 25 and next Tuesday, June 29. I'm missing opening night at the Taste of Chicago with a performance by Teena Marie and New Edition on June 29....but LONG LIVE THE PURPLE ONE!!!

We need more musicians in today's music!!

LadyGreek, we need to hang in Vegas:D

msn4med1975 06-21-2004 12:36 AM

Hey hey hey, don't leave me out of the hanging. We can compare concerts cause I'm sure he was all kinds of ridiculously funky at home. And if he gets anything resembling a break before your show Virtual he's gonna be off the chain too. A few nights of sleep does him great. Ohhhh and maybe he'll have the celebration next year again and we can all go and hang out.

I can't wait!!!!

I am counting down the days until 7/30/04. I will be traveling to Detroit, MI, just so I can see Prince in action. I didn't get a chance to see the concert when it was here in Cleveland, because they tickets sold out pretty quickly.

I am sooooo excited! 7/30/04 isn't coming fast enough.

blackerican 06-21-2004 09:12 AM

Prince is my Future Husband!!!!

Illuzion, Coma, Pimp and Circumstances!

and Call My Name

Name your most favorite cut(s) from the CD (no more than two because we know the whole thing is good!)

I'm just surprised it hasn't melted or something as much as I have been playing it.

I had the opportunity to see Prince at the Essence FEstival..Lawd he rocked the stage LOL..He brought it down when he came back out to sing Purple Rain..cause a lot of folks left cause they thought it was over...but when Wendy came out there and started playing that guitar..my lighter went up in the air LOL...I was a little blown though cause one of the girls that went with us hadn't heard most of the songs..and when MOrris Day and the Time came out and we started doing the Bird..she asked what we were doing.. youngings i tell ya LOL

Anyway...my favorite cuts would be Call my name and Call my name LOL ;) ....I luvs me some Prince...

Yup, front and right on the aisle the artists used to walk in and that HE used when he walked out...he looked right at me when I screamed "thank you!!!" :p -shoot that's my story and I'm sticking to it ;) !! Although I was annoyed that the guards picked those non dancing hussies to go on stage-did you see that Scores-wanna-be chick rolling around on the ground? When he was facing us he gave her the "WTF" look?? Those youngins didn't even know what to do when he called out for old school-where's the bump? the wop? Every dance does not mean you stand still and shake your behind

Membership has its priviliges....due to being club members we had very good seats...there were a number of celebrities and even Knicks players sitting behind us. We got there early and watched as others came in and then stepped behind us (yes i'm showing off) but hey we stood by him through his "slave" days, buying music off the web site and one nite shows....we deserved acknowledgement!

I can't pick a favorite song-(except for Adore-he always makes me fall back in love with the song) - that's like trying to chose between your children...they all have different personalities that fulfill different needs on different days. He changed some up live that made me hear them differently than in the past. The only thing I missed from this concert was Prince didn't play the piano at all. But his band was awesome-real music by real musicians!!

And this show was different from what he did Monday night (my brother went to both) so if you are able try to get tickets for more than one show when he comes to your town.

First, let me pick up my glass of Hatorade, lol.

My mom called me a few minutes ago and said she heard the show was really good. Prince received a good review in the paper, if you get a chance to read it.

When homeboy in the band was playing his drum solos, all I could do was stand up and say, "DAYUM!!!!!!

LOL@ the non-dancing hussies. For a minute, I thought they were part of the act, as in they came along with Prince. Oh well.

The youngins had no clue about his songs from back in the day, especially when he sang "Bambi" lol.

OOOOoooh I love me some Prince. Thats all i have to say. IM OUT:o

I meant only off the Musicology CD.

Oh I know...but I still can't choose one favorite...depends on what I'm doing....at night I can hit repeat on Call my name ..but if its early & I need motivation on the treadmill it could be Musicology or Life O the Party. I usually just pop it in and rotate with other prince cd's. The best thing is he always has a song that will fit whatever mood I'm in!

lilmama_26 07-14-2004 09:15 PM

I too was at MSG last night. It was the first time I saw him perform live. Umm.....does this man age at all??? I fell in love with him all over again. I got goosebumps and felt all woozy when he first appeared. Like he said, "Too many hits, so little time", but whew! did he take me back! Oh, and his band was tight.

LOL @ the wannabe dancers up there! Laying on your back and gyrating in front of 20,000 people is not, uh, cute. I personally would of just made sure I got my feel on before they kicked me off the stage!:p

Yes it was John...I never paid any attention to Prince's drummer before-now that they're playing in the round John's not hidden in the back of the stage! This dude has guns for arms...just buff! (& he played the heck out of the drums also :p :D )..

lil_mama26 - last night was a great first concert to attend..granted when he was younger he would jump off pianos into splits and do other craziness but watching him mature & maintain 100% total energy on the stage in other ways has been (& should be) a lesson for all artists. Trust-you won't be disappointed with future shows!

Welcome to the obsession!

@ladygreek----while in Vegas make sure to check out Purple Reign, the Prince tribute band. Now there are a couple of things you need to know before you go (cause nobody warned me when I went :o ).

1. I saw them at the Gold Nugget (think that was the name of the hotel) and that place is one tiny step above Harpo's Juke joint. :D

2. Ignore the lone back-up dancer.....I'm thinking she must be some band-member's girlfriend  ....she serves no purpose...ignore her or better yet---show her how it's done. :)

and lastly,

3. If you see them....we'll have to talk about what exactly was that "purple thing" on stage supposed to be.  :o

I must say Prince tore MSG down last night as well! We were on our feet the whole night! I liked when Sheila E. came out. That girl still looks good (but not as good as Prince, of course)

My co-worker told me about Sheila E. and Morris Day.

Let's just say that I've added about 10 lemons to my TALL glass of Hatorade!!!!

You know his young daughter drowned a couple of weeks ago. That is why the Chicago shows were postponed. I bet getting back into his work is what is carrying him right now.

I had no idea. :( He is a true artist. At one point a tear came down his face during the show. He really feels his music. It's as if you feel what he feels when he plays.

Ladies, he has a since of humor, he was diverse (playing a little blues, reggae - prince style, etc.) and talented. And didn't he take us back like only he could.

He looks so young though. And his voice is just as clean and crisp. He sounded the same 20 years ago .

I was blessed with tickets for a graduation gift and ... I'm still on cloud nine.

The very old (I mean grandma and great ma were in the house), the young, gay, straight and all shades in between were in the house partying IT UP!!! That was shocking. Ch'al, I had me a glass of champagne, savored the strawberry in the end, and enjoyed myself. PRINCE IS TOO SEXY FOR WORDS!

stardusttwin 07-15-2004 01:31 PM

You know I totally forgot that I heard about a band member losing a child until you wrote it here... he's an awesome musician...I can't say it enough..& to come back on tour after such a loss..just amazing.

1savvydiva 07-15-2004 03:42 PM

I don't know the name of the song, but it says something like "I just can't stop writing songs about you, I Love you so much". I heard it on MusicChoice the other day and was grooving, I may have to go buy the CD.

Shelacious 07-15-2004 07:50 PM

I saw the Prince Musicology Tour last month--second best concert I've ever been to (maybe the best). I have to echo those who say they fell in love with him all over again. He was so beautiful, I got chills watching him (I do call him "Louis Cypher" because that man hasn't aged a day, and since all the folks who were around him are on dialysis and such, and he hasn't aged? Louis Cypher).

Loved the show. Loved the band. Loved the music. Loved the CD. What I loved most of all was how personable Prince was with the audience. Most folks teetering on the edge of crazy (y'all remember the BET interview some years back when he had the mask over his mouth and someone had to speak for him?) never come back to the land of the sane. Prince seems to have done that, and it was great to see him in action.

He'll back back here for 3 shows in September--I might be at one of them.
