Have you ever met someone "too cool for school"?
 

I knew this one guy in high school that was "too cool for school." 5 years after high school graduation, I met him again, and he was working behind the counter at the local McDonald.

Actually, I just mentioned someone like this in my signature, but it really upset another moderator so I took it out.

When I was in 8th grade, I had the biggest crush on this guy named Kevin. He was in 9th grade and he was sooooo cute; and such a bad boy. And I was this prissy, preppy little thing so I guess I thought he was Pittsburgh's version of James Dean in "Rebel without a Cause"! lol

Ninth grade comes, Kevin is in my study hall. Turns out he was still in 9th grade! Still cute. Still a badboy. Still crushing on him.

Tenth grade, I'm finally allowed to date. Dates with Kevin were usually comprised of me taking my school books to the basketball courts in Kevin's town (where the bad boys hung out! Bad boys in 1984 weren't quite as bad as bad boys in 2004) and studying while he and his cohorts played ball then he'd take me out and buy me a hamburger and shake with the money he won :rolleyes: He is still in ninth grade, by the way.

Eleventh grade rolls along. For me, at least. Kevin is still toiling in ninth grade. When he shows up. I'm finally figuring out that he might not be the guy for me.

Twelfth grade. Kevin is MIA. I hear rumors that he's in Shuman Center, where bad boys go when they're too bad.

Never heard from him again, unless you count the times his name popped up in the "Crime Log" section of our local paper. My mom would always be kind enough to clip it and send it on to me :rolleyes: Last time, I believe, it was some kind of drug related thing. I can't remember details, but it was something big. I guess he's someone's prison b--ch now. Sigh.

Kind of the same thing that moe.ron said, there was this one kid who thtought he was the coolest in high school. Justthe other day, he was in the back making pizzas at dominoes.

Ugh...there were too many of these people at my old high school. :rolleyes: However, they are now a source of my entertainment...a good 90% of the "cool crowd" are now: pregnant, onto their 2nd child, dropped out of college, working at ole' Mickey D's, serving time for drug charges, and my favorite.....still cruising around town in their "pimped out" '88 Escort ;)

All those guys got good grades in high school, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out why.

When I found out they cheated their way through HS< got caught and got kicked out of college, and are either making minimum wage or doing net porn, I figured out why.

Apparently I'm doing the best out of all my friends.......that's scary....

The cheerleader from hell makes me smile. There was this one chick who hated me from the moment we set eyes on each other in 8th grade. She hated me b/c she was the perky pretty cheerleader & I was the stoner w/blue hair. The guy she was crushing on asked me to our 8th grade dance but I said no b/c my mom didn't believe in dances. :rolleyes: She was his second choice. Throughout high school, the loathing was mutual between us. It's been a few years since graduation but we bumped into each other recently. The hatred remains. A mutual friend told me she is now is a "waitress" at a gentlemans club near the airport. The cheerleader made nasty remarks about me when she found out about my double degree in English Literature & Speech Communications. She also apparently flipped when she learned I'm getting married in December. She then started recalling how much better than me she was in high school. :rolleyes: She seriously needs to move on.


This one from my fiance. His friend who was the hottest guy in school & always the one to get in trouble ended up doing one drug too many. He took a header off the roof of his parents house while high & is now paralyzed from the waist down. :(

Know what's really funny/sad about that situation? She probably thinks that working at a gentleman's club is proof that she's Miss Hotty McHotty :rolleyes: while you're a "mere" college student. In other words, she's probably living in some alternate reality :D


On an unrelated note,
Did anyone go to school with girls who were not nice, pretty OR smart but they were "popular" because they had hot older brothers that all the girls wanted to date? I knew a few of those and always wondered what happened to them once they graduated and were no longer famous by association.

YES. There was this girl I hated in high school who was popular only because her brother was the football star of our school. He was a senior when the girl and me were freshman. She thought she was cool and better than everyone else. But she looked like a horse. Seriously. She had a really long face, huge teeth, and tiny eyes. She was really tall and broad just like her brother (and a horse) except the body type looked a lot better on him. My friends and I nicknamed her "Mrs. Ed" and we would mumble a "NEIGHHHHHHH" or we'd start singing the theme to Mr. Ed whenever she was around.
She milked her brother's reputation for all 4 years of high school. I hear that she dropped out of community college and is now waitressing at a restaurant in the town where I grew up. I've thought about stopping by the restaurant just so I can laugh at her but that would mean I'd have to see her and looking at her makes me vomit so I think I'll pass.

On that note, did anyone go to school with someone that was popular just because everyone else was scared of him/her? There was a girl at my school that was constantly beating up people for no reason. She threatened to beat up my friend Jared because she claimed that he gave her a dirty look one time. My senior year, she went ballistic on me in the school parking lot because she stepped in front of my car and while swerving to avoid killing her, I gave her this look like "you idiot". She got invited to all the parties and hung out with the popular group because, as I was told, they were afraid that she was going to hurt them if they didn't let her hang out with them.

Sophomore Year: There was also this one guy in high school who used to model for YM and Teen magazine. He was a jerk & I hated his guts b/c at a party once, he told everyone that I was butt-face ugly. He then started being really nice to me b/c he found out that this really HOT girl in school was my cousin & best friend. He would always say hi & try to hang out w/us b/c he wanted to go out w/her. My cousin would never give him the time of day when she found out the things he said about me.

Senior Year: I was now at a different school but went to prom w/a friend of my cousins. Met up w/the jerk again & he tried hitting on me b/c my hair was back to its normal color, a good haircut, acne clears up, & my boobs finally grow so apparently he thought I was good enough to hit on. What a pathetic creep.

Present day: He is now bumming around Huntington Beach living off his parents money. He did not go to college, too much partying & drugs made his once handsome face go down the drain so his modeling career tanked too.

I also used to know this HOT guy who had an artificial leg. He was gorgeous and really rich. My same cousin & I were in Huntington Park one day which is a largely Latino populated area in CA. He was there dressed like a homeless guy w/his leg off! We were stunned. He was so embarrassed taht we had busted him. It turns out that he used to go around to towns where he wouldn't run into anyone he knew & panhandle for fun even though his parents were loaded. Of course, we told everyone we knew about it & people used to throw change at him after that on campus. Sadly, he has led a semi-successful life. He still has money BUT it's only b/c he works for his parents so they pay him lots of money for grunt work.

I feel ya on that popular person just because they could kick everyone's ass. A friend of mine, his name is Beau Jordan, was exactly that. I knew this kid since we were young. He was scrony as shit, but then one year he got big as fuck. I mean he went from looking like a cracked out version of Marc Anthony to looking like The Rock in less than 6 months. Now, I'm sure most of it was because he was juicing but genetics play a part in it as well. His dad was big as fuck but everyone knew he juiced (this was before i even thought about doing it). Anyhow, he could beat everyone's ass in my school and everyone knew it including him. I used to beat his ass all the time when we were younger but somewhere along the line I got nice and stopped. Thank God. We were still friends and are to this day. The guy was in 10th grade and weighed 240lbs and was about 6'2. The bitch was huge. Him and my cousin Leah dated all through highschool. The only guy who actually got in a fight with him in our school was another friend of mine named Mike Roll. These were the two baddest bitches around. They didnt give a fuck about anything. I remember the morning it happened....it was in what we called "the commons" which was where everyone chilled in between classes and before school started. I was known for getting up on the podiums in that area and talking to our school before the day started. Usually it was just mindless bullshit about where and when parties were going to take place during the weekend or pre-pep rally parties/poster parties or whatever. If something was happening I had a hand in it and told everyone where to go....only now do I realize how long I've actually been a promoter :D Anyhow, one morning, I'm up there telling all these peeps where to go that night since it was Friday and Mike yelled out "Not right now, Craig Mac" (I had several nick names being the pimp I was) and then Beau yelled out, "Yea nigga, these bitches need to dip" and all of a sudden I saw them walking toward each other and then they started swinging. Beau got nailed on lip and his shit was split while mike got his eyebrow cut and eye swolled shut before it was broke up. I was up there acting smokey from friday when he saw miss-parker's ass. Anyhow, it was probably the 2nd best fight in real life Ive ever seen in front of me. The best was one I was actually in between Pike and Sigma Chi at UF. There had to have been 80 guys fighting at the height of it. Both frats ended up crashing the same club at the same time and it wasnt good. I was a freshman and I loved it. This was Fall of 98'. Its sucks though, a few month later more brothers got in a fight and 2 of them died. :(




-BTW, on Mrs. Ed......that kind of shit worries me about having a kid with a tall chick. If I have a daughter one day I dont want her to end up being Mrs. Ed. :p

Yeah- I know a few kids for whom school wasn't their thing. One kid is working full time as production supervisor at the local newspaper and getting his degree part time... I think he still has a few years left. Although he wasn't into school he's really smart and I'm sure he'll start his own company someday. We're good friends. I knew another kid who just didn't like traditional school so he went to culinary school. I went to a prep high school so most people were convinced that education was important.

Ok, I wasn't neccessarily popular, but some people would be nice to me and let me have my way because they thought I was psycho. :D :o

I had a quick temper, but I wouldn't consider that as psycho. I never got violent or anything. But that was fine with me, being pretty small then, my rep surely prevented me from getting beat up.

I deal with it every Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:55-3:05pm.

Guy who I could never figure out how he was in the popular group, fits this description. He was always a fat, non-athletic guy who somehow was in that popular group and had really hot girlfriends.

He hit his peak about 8th grade, and even as high school was continuing he popularity and overall significance really dropped. Last time I saw him, he changed my oil - something that surprised me, b/c one of my good friends swore he had gotten the "too cool" fired from the same shop b/c the kid had forgotten to put his oil pan or cap or something on. Luckily my friend recognized the mistake before making it much beyond the parking lot. My friend actually insisted that the kid be fired, something I found hilarious.

Does anyone know people who were super popular, but were actually nice people, and now they're stuck in your hometown? I know one girl who has been in and out of the local community college for 4 years now. Still supposedly planning on making it a 4 year institituion to finish off her degree, meanwhile other people we graduated HS with (like myself) have graduated and are in professional or grad school or have really nice jobs as teachers or engineers or the like. I feel bad for the girl because she really was a nice person, and I thought she'd have a better future than the way things have turned out.

I went to grammar and high school with a girl named Patty who was always the most popular. you always wanted an invite to her party, she was a cheerleader, in the dance squad etc.
She was never openly mean to me, but when she was with her other friends, it was a whole different story.

well, she got knocked up Senior year in hs (this is after having an abortion once already). she did go to college to get her nursing degree, but last I heard she had already had 2 other kids. so now she's like 25 with 3 kids from different dads.

cant say im surprised though. she was always a little slutty even back in grammar school.

There was a group of 7 in Blazercheer and Ballerina's class who thought they were IT. One has done well, is a senior at UGa. Good--she was the only nice one.

The rest: the "queen" of the group flunked out of Ga Southern with a 0.0. Two more couldn't get into UGa so they've been hanging around Athens at the local tech college for 4 years, pretending to be UGa students. Another one got pregnant and I'm not sure if she ever made it to college. Another one developed an eating disorder and last I heard, was bumming around the state mooching off of friends and relatives (this from her grandmother). The last one is in and out of the local tech college.

I'm SURE they envisioned vastly different futures for themselves back in the day, probably that they would all go to UGa together and be co-Homecoming Queens as well as sorority sisters in the same selective sorority.

I kinda liked - in a friend way only! - the class moron. I mean, you have to have a little respect for someone who is LAST in a class of over 780 people! If that were me, I'd probably just give up.

Anyhow, he stuck it out, got his high school diploma, and is now a butcher at one of the stores where I like to buy meat (it's really lean & fresh there). If he sees me there, he'll cut me something specially. I know, big deal - but if you smelled my steaks grilling, you'd be happy, too!

the sad thing is... the kids that were 'too cool for school' actually went on to college and are getting degrees... see I lived on a military base in Japan, and those kids dont have much option of any thing else... the sad part, the kids who worked their tushes off couldnt afford college, some are housewives, others were forced to go military, which no one wanted to do really right out of school, and i feel so bad as to be one of the kids who actually made it to their junior year... cause all my 'good guys' friends had to leave college if they went at all...

An 0.0 GPA???? WHOA! :rolleyes: :eek:

actually I knew a kid who was too cool for school even back in high school. His goal in life was to cut the meat at Boston Market. I think he got his wish.

Yep. 1 is dead (car accident), one has leukemia, 2 others have brain cancer, 2 are in jail. All in my same class in high school. The cancer stuff - I blame on trailers built right next to electrical towers. There were a few that grew up, got a quick reality check, and are very successful.

There used to be this girl that every guy wanted to date in high school & every girl wanted to be. She was in the class behind mine. She was very sweet and genuinely nice but people used to say the most awful things about her (out of jealousy & spite) but she just ignored those losers & did things her own way. I later learned she became a sister of Alpha Phi & did very well in her chapter.

I had a teacher in high school who referred to the "too cool for school" type as F.G.A. - Future Gas-pumpers of America.

I had a few classmates in high school who were F.G.A.'s, but got their isht together, graduated on time, and went on to college.

At my school, most of us kinda looked down on the kids that would talk back, sit and act bored in class, not particpate, smoke, drink etc... My area was pretty preppy and for us "cool" was being involved in a grocery list of extra curriculars., good grades, and who got into Berkeley/Stanford and the ivy league. Not that people NEVER drank or anything, they did, but they also didn't blow off school.
