Chocolate cravings

I searched to see if there was already a thread like this and I saw one on cravings and one on sex & chocolate but didn't see anything specifically on chocolate cravings...forgive me if I'm repeating.

This is probably mostly for the women. Does anyone crave chocolate a lot? Like after every meal or several times a day? I swear no matter how full I am I always feel like I can at least eat a small piece of chocolate. Of course, it's worse when I'm PMSing.

Just wanted to see if I was the only one.

decadence 06-18-2004 02:24 PM

I'm not a woman but I'll add my 2 cents anyway.

Cravings for chocolate could be down to the fact your body/brain wants seratonin (sorta like a 'happy' neurochemical; has an effect on endorphine release too - hormones that make you feel good, released during sex etc) or, it wants caffeine (a mild stimulant possibly habit forming) or possibly sugar (the sugar rush).

Perhaps not always specifically chocolate but my body often wants caffeine/junkfood cravings.

Personally I often give in to them but I don't know if I'd recommend it. :p

I crave chocolate usually after meals. I know I'm PMSing when I crave it CONTSTANTLY!

Chocolate is definitely an addiction of mine. If I could live on chocolate (esp. chocolate ice cream!) I would.

mmmm... i love chocolate!!! thank god i have a pack of reese's cups, a butterfinger, and a smores bar (which i haven't tried before but look forward to it :) ) downstairs. i'll wait to have one after i work out today.

I'm guilty. I eat this milk chocolate hazlenut spread called Nutella. if I don't get a craving for that then it is snickers bars or chocolate covered peanuts. And yes, all of them are good after sex. Chocolate kind of gives you that second wind when you feel like you're out of gas and your S.O. still has a half a tank left.

WCUgirl 06-18-2004 04:28 PM

My favorite form of chocolate is when it's melted so you can dip things in it, like strawberries, or bananas, or pieces of poundcake (sorry Sheetcake!), like at the Melting Pot.

Mmmmmm.....chocolate!

Nutella is definitely one of my favorite forms of chocolate! Although I'm always good with a plain Hershey bar too.

I know. :D The first one I ever ate at was in St. Pete - we would usually go for Homecoming or Prom. Although, a few girlfriends of mine and I would all get together and go over there just for desert. That was always fun!

I think Easter is the best holiday (w/ Christmas a very close second) for Chocolate b/c you've got it coming in so many different forms - eggs, bunnies, chicks. And they're filled w/ all kinds of different things too! I LOVE Cadbury cream eggs. Mmmmm...

I love those Dove promises. Those are so good! I have a candy jar on my desk here at work and I usually keep it filled w/ some of those. I also like those Hershey's (is it Hershey's or Nestle's?) Treasures w/ the caramel inside.

And my husband swears I am single-handedly keeping Rollos in business. Those are the bomb! Now they're making them in miniatures.

Another good desert is the chocolate volcano thingie from Chili's. Yum! Perhaps that's where we'll go for dinner tonight...

AXiD670 I think you need to be my new best friend. We can sit around eat chocolate and talk about it. :p

I think Easter and Christmas are a tie for chocolate, at least around my house.

If I had a jar of any chocolate on my desk it would not last long so I don't do that.

I love that volcano thingie!

OKAY! (but we would have to get up and walk around every once in a while to be sure the chocolate doesn't go to our butts).

You know what else is good - the Chocolate Chimichanga from Rio Bravo.

Bennigan's has an absolutely ENORMOUS piece of chocolate cake (or they used to) that was really good.

And of course, cheesecake always has to come in some variety of chocolate, or w/ Hershey's syrup drizzled on top.

Oh, has anyone tried the new Hershey's kisses w/ the caramel inside?

KellyB369 06-18-2004 04:56 PM

Well I heard that if you eat it standing up then it won't go to your butt or legs or whatever. ;)

And I have had the Hershey's caramel kisses. They are good but I'm not a huge fan of caramel.

ANY holiday is great because of Reese's Peanut butter eggs, trees, pumpkins, etc...

I finally have a *small* solution to my chocolate cravings since I am on the GC diet! I eat a teaspoon of straight no-sugar added peanut butter or some whole lightly salted almonds. For me, at least, this seems to help the cravings.

My favorite chocolate dessert is Maui Brownie Madness in a sundae from Baskin Robbins. Oh, and the Melting Pot is awesome!

FYI: Our Rio Bravo closed last year. It was ALWAYS packed and was *the* place to go at Vanderbilt. It literally just shut the doors one day. The Cooker closed suddenly this year. It was the other place that we always ate. So sad....

I LOVE CHOCOLATE!!!!!!

I crave it almost every day, but the times of the day vary.

However, when it comes to the time of the month, I have to have at least one chocolate item per day.

My favorite things with chocolate are
cake (with chocolate frosting, raspberry puree is optional)
French silk pie
Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie
chocolate chip cookies (and chocolate chocolate chip cookies)
truffles
candies (not necessarily candy bars)
Mocha Latte
Hot chocolate
Ice cream
An all chocolate sundae
Chocolate Lasagne (from the Olive Garden)
Chocolate Chip Pancakes (I hadn't had this in months and I miss it)

DZGirl 06-18-2004 07:04 PM

Speaking of chocolate, I had 3 caramel Hershey Kisses this afternoon. They are so good. YUM

Oh my God - I LOVE NUTELLA! It is so good on crepes or baguettes. Yum!

tinydancer 06-18-2004 11:28 PM

Oh, it's all about chocolate. Just give over the Hershey bar or one of those dark chocolate Milky Ways and no one will get hurt!;)

All of that sounds great but I especially love Chocolate Chip Pancakes - IHOP's are good surprisingly enough. I've never had Chocolate Lasagne but it sounds yummy!

I'm currently in Australia, and they have these cookies down here called Tim Tams. Calling them cookies might not be fair - more like an orgasm on a plate. they have two layers of chocolate wafer sandwiched between milk chocolate filling and coating. If you bite off two opposing corners, suck some hot water through, then shove the whole thing in your mouth its like molten chocolate cake...but better.

OMG these things NEED to be exported to the United States.

ADPiShannan 06-22-2004 10:07 AM

I just think me and chocolate are the best of friends....;)

Peaches-n-Cream 06-22-2004 11:54 AM

Last week my neighbor told me that she and her family were going to Hershey, Pa. I really wanted to join them. *drool*

When I was younger, my mother used to give me those big Hershey chocolate bars on special occasions or when something bad happened. Chocolate made me so happy. It made good times great and bad times better.

KellyB369 06-24-2004 04:48 PM

Yum Yum

For the chocolate lovers...something new...

WCUgirl 06-24-2004 04:52 PM

Gosh Kelly, that looks good!!!

I've neglected this thread. :(

I haven't had any chocolate since about 11 this morning. We hae some ice cream sandwiches in the freezer here at work, but I'm trying my best to hold out until I get home in an hour so I can eat some of my E.L. Fudge chocolate-covered graham cookies.

I'll have what she is having :)

abaici 06-27-2004 12:28 AM

I don't really like chocolate. I will ALWAYS pick a fruity candy or ice cream over chocolate. HOWEVER, for the past two weeks, I've been craving chocolate. I home sick today and I seriously considered getting out of the bed and going to See's Candy for an Almond/Caramel/Chocolate thingy.

HAHAHA! Pam you should have SEEN my friend's face when she tasted them for the first time. This girl makes me look like I don't even like chocolate... if you let her at a packet of tim tams (there are maybe 12 cookies in there?) she will inhale the whole thing!

I miss so many American foods like good mexican, good pizza, and anything organic, but I will miss tim tams oh so much when I return home!

I might decide to try... except I'm very worried they will melt along the way. Most Australian chocolate has an anti-melting agent in it (makes it taste a bit odd) but I don't think Tim Tams do - they melt so easily.
