New Yahoo Mail

Woohoo for 100 megs, but damn is it slow and i'm getting errors loading a lot of pages. Hope they work the kinks out.

Peaches-n-Cream 06-15-2004 05:04 PM

I found it slow at first, but now it is back to normal. I wish that I had known about this because yesterday I deleted a lot of e-mail. I kept getting notices that my mailbox was full. Now I am using only 3% of 100MB.

I KNOW! I'm so mad. I just deleted a bunch of stuff I would liked to have kept. Blah on Yahoo!

I've been having problems, too. Hopefully it'll speed up by the end of the day or something. I check my email at least 5 times a day, and waiting as long as I have been to get into my mailbox is a pain in the rear :p

Kevin 06-15-2004 05:31 PM

I've considered switching to Yahoo. I just really don't like their layout. I'm on hotmail at the moment, however, their new layout is a pain in the butt as well.

What I find strange is how hotmail gets people to pay $19.95/year for what... 20MB or something equally pointless?

I wonder if they'll do anything to try to compete with the new Yahoo or GMail services.

lauralaylin 06-15-2004 05:32 PM

On boston.com I saw that there is some international virus or something going around, so maybe that's why it's slow? I just got invited to get gmail yesterday (yay!) so I don't care about yahoo getting more room, it's still much smaller than google.

AGDLynn 06-15-2004 06:34 PM

on a side note, anyone hear of web2mail.com?

CatStarESP4 06-16-2004 04:46 PM

I just got a look at the Yahoo mail. I was at first surprised over the extra space, but I love now! What used to be 20-30% of 6.0MB used is now 1% of 100.0MB. That is totally awesome!

smiley21 06-16-2004 04:54 PM

after 5 years, i still love my yahoo mail

AOIIalum 06-16-2004 05:09 PM

I love my yahoo mail, but am not happy since the upgrade. I can't delete anything from my inbox and can't dump my trash or bulk boxes. DS uses yahoo and he says that he's only been able to receive email since the change, he can't even get anything sent.

Hope it gets fully functional soon.

decadence 06-16-2004 05:16 PM

I hadn't heard of gmail before today.

I found out in the early hours when I logged into one account it was (omgwow :)!) 100mb... and one by one the other 6mb accounts later followed suit. They (Yahoo) do offer an upgrade for something like $15 a year to 1gb of space but after using 6mb for so long I probably won't even use the 100mb for a while. Strange, really.

I'll probably even delete one of my multiple old yahoo accounts that only get spam now.

From what I hear, the general consensus is that it was a reaction to Google Mail (gmail) that led to them increasing the inbox size. Co-signing on the fact I'd deleted stuff the day before because I just "didn't have enough room".

It hasn't been slow etc for me, I think they updated accounts to 100mb in tranches - e.g. my old rocketmail (bought out by Yahoo) was the first to update. I did have problems at the start though, but I think they're on top of things now like others said, above. *crosses fingers*

cutiepatootie 06-16-2004 10:55 PM

yeah for my yahoo 100 mgs of space

mmcat 06-16-2004 11:11 PM

it was messy tuesday...but it's better today.
still a bit slow.

Thrillhouse 06-17-2004 12:14 AM

Its running pretty good for me today after a couple days of not working well. I'm glad for the extra space although I'm the type of person who deletes most e-mails right away.

Sister Havana 06-17-2004 12:42 AM

I love all the extra space! I went from using around 80% of 6MB to 5% of 100MB. Now if only Hotmail would follow suit. :)

decadence 06-17-2004 10:37 AM

Anyone else experiencing this?

The delete buttons at the top in the interface (same with Move Folder button etc) have no effect. That is, I click on them in IE (on a PC) and... nothing.

I experienced the same problem when the new yahoo mail came up. But it worked later for me when I tried to delete some mail.

PhiPsiRuss 06-17-2004 10:56 AM

It was buggy yesterday, but not today. I was paying for extra storage, so I now have 2GB. I don't really need that much storage, but they also pulled the ads, so my e-mail is now ad free. That is definitely worth $19.98/year.

Yep, we're having the exact same problems here. I finally found a way to email their tech support about it. If I get a reply I'll post it here.

kddani 06-17-2004 11:42 AM

I got a G mail account today. Fun stuff!! But, it's not exactly perfect. They keep changing the site, so it is down. blah.

Sidetrack: You are the only person I have ever heard say that about wanting to use IE over Safari given that IE hasn't been updated and is so buggy unlike Safari. As for being able to use it, I've been able to as well.

Besides Gmail, there is spymac.com also.

RioLambdaAlum 06-17-2004 02:05 PM

I have a mac at work and I would say 90% of us HATE Safari. It doesn't work with a lot of websites. I only use it to link into our intranet because it is better than IE for that.

Strange.

It doesn't work with certain websites only because Microsoft deviated from acceptable code and made errors. It works with most websites though.

IE is not only a security risk, it's bloated, slow, and buggy. Safari isn't faster than a couple other browsers but it serves its purpose as a browser well.

Additionally, Safari identifies itself as Safari - if you wanted to you could have Safari identify itself as Internet Explorer if there are websites that intentionally block IE.

Just so you know, I'm not a mac nut at all and spend a tenth of my day on a powerbook as opposed to my PCs at work.

[hijack]

I agree that Safari does help when viewing sites on a Mac that don't agree with IE. However, my dirt with Safari stems from it not refreshing fast enough. I can click the links on GC in Safari and it will tell me that no new posts have been posted when in fact there have been. And this could be a Suitcase issue, but my fonts don't work in Safari. IE is just easier for me to use because it's familiar. But I have come across websites that don't load properly because they are in IE but they work fine in Safari.

lauralaylin 06-17-2004 05:25 PM

I've never heard of Safari. Is it only for Macs? I hate IE, I always use Firefox. Although a few sites don't seem to support it, it's much better than IE.

Jill1228 06-17-2004 08:42 PM

Yup, gotta love yahoo

safari is a Mac based web browser. Don't worry... I only found out about it this year.

Kevin 06-18-2004 11:51 AM

Got my gmail today. Big thank you to she who helped me out!

It's awesome. My only complaint thus far is that I haven't figured out how to get a group of selected names from my contact list to come up in the addressee box.

I need to read the directions I think.

ms_gwyn 06-18-2004 12:42 PM

of course since I have sbc I have to have my yahoo account and its been really buggy with all my groups...THAT is annoying that I have to send all these damn reactivation accounts, grrrrrrrrr.

other than that...its fine

WCUgirl 06-18-2004 02:46 PM

Okay, my husband is a hotmail user and he wants to jump on this Gmail bandwagon. If anyone can help me out, let me know!

Thanks!

decadence 06-21-2004 02:49 PM

AXiD670, send me a PM if he's still looking to jump on that bandwagon ok? :)

(If you've got one by now for him then post here to state that and if Kayla reads that then can she PM me (if her and bf still want one). If she in turn is already sorted with an email account then let me know and I'll give it to someone on my LJ list possibly. Or I might swap it on gmailswap.com).

ETA: Ignore my rambling above. I actually have more than one invite. SO:
1) AXiD670, you want one? PM me.
2) Kayla hon, you also want one? PM me.

OK thanks.

ILLINIgirl 06-21-2004 06:56 PM

I like the new yahoo mail but mine is really really slow now and "errors" a lot. Not only that, but when I use yahoo as my search engine, it's incredibly slow also...:(

WCUgirl 06-21-2004 07:05 PM

decadence - I pm'd you! :p
