Ebay pin

Sisters,
This one might slip by because it is misidentified. Wanted you all to see it, though. I am unable to post the link because of a computer glitch - search EBAY for "sorority pin" and you will find a picture with about 6 pins on it. The one for sale is ours.
Roses,
Anna

I mailed the seller and told them that it was an aopi pin. She thought it was a different sororoity.

Why is it soo hard for the seller to realize that it is an aopi pin? They all think that it is a different sorority.

I figured this seller saw the last one that was for sale and thought it's seller knew what he was talking about! Is there even an Alpha Theta Pi?

zinf77 06-14-2004 05:48 PM

Not that I know of.

AOIIBrandi 06-15-2004 09:11 AM

I just wanted to add as an FYI...

If a seller does not know it is an AOII pin and has it listed incorrectly it should (in theory) keep the price lower and allow a sister to rescue it relatively inexpensively (especially an older or fancier one). This is the same reason that we try not to mention e-bay and badge/pin in the title of a thread as lurkers (read badge collectors) look at these threads. I know there was a thread on this in another forum...I will search and see if I can add a link.

aopinthesky 06-15-2004 11:58 AM

Moderator - feel free to remove this thread if you feel that it is detrimental to pin-buying. Forgive my ignorance, I had not seen a thread about the need for cryptic posts on the subject.

AOIIsilver 06-15-2004 12:08 PM

Check it out...Someone e-mailed the seller....The badge has now been correctly identified and the price has risen.... :(

Unfortunately, that's not surprising to learn. Darn it!

Just a reminder to all of us--make sure you regularly check that your badge is where you think it is and you report it if it's lost or stolen. While I'm on a roll :) make sure that your family and friends know what to do with your badge when you die. Educate our sisters, too.

Does anyone know the percentage of our badges that are lost or sold as part of an estate vs. the percentage sold/auctioned by former members? I'm curious...

Christin

And just to plug the AOII Foundation.....
Consider giving a gift to the AOII Foundation in your will and joining the Second Century Society. The form is EASY and you do not have to reveal how much you have chosen to donate.

My badge was stolen. I e-mailed IHQ with the specifics, it had not been returned. I am still hopefull it will be returned or show up on e-bay.

Here's another.

SnowLady 07-06-2004 02:09 PM

Is plaztik a collector? I bid against him/her last week on the only badge I've ever wanted outside of my own.

Just curious?

AOIIalum 07-06-2004 02:48 PM

Yep :(

PS--Welcome home!

Stacekat 07-09-2004 09:34 PM

yes and he's not nice. He told LB93_AOII that his daughter was an AOII. He's full of it, and apparently has an immense amount of money.

SnowLady 07-10-2004 09:04 AM

Well he has his bid set so high that if you don't get the bid in right at literally the last second he will always win. :(

I just don't understand how our badge or anyone else's for that matter can mean as much to a collector as it does one of us.

Stacekat 07-23-2004 06:36 PM

oh nevermind. It's been used. But it's so new...

ya, I saw that too. If he is a parent, that's great that he's rescuing our pins.

I guess regarding pins and collectors, etc we must be very careful in rushing to judgement.

AOII*Azra-elle 07-26-2004 05:19 PM

One of my chapter sisters and I got into 2 bidding wars with him over 2 different badges at the same time. Well, let's just say that he didn't win! :D

Here is another one:

That's an interesting one, the diamond sort of threw me off...

rosejoy 07-28-2004 10:17 AM

That is really pretty...the diamond in the place of a pearl is interesting...perhaps it is something the original owner had set in place of one of the pearls.

Probably one of pearls came out, and it was replaced with a diamond (easier than trying to match the color of pearl)

That or her SO told her "I'll put a diamond in your badge for each child that we have...."

Oh, wait, that is just me wishfully thinking....

OleMissGlitter 07-28-2004 12:54 PM

or maybe she was a Diamond Jubliee Recipient....??? I know when I had two pearls replaced on my great-grandmother's badge from 1924, it was so hard to find pearls that were in the same color of the original pearls...

zinf77 07-28-2004 08:33 PM

All I know is that badge is beautiful. I want it soo bad.

SnowLady 07-28-2004 09:44 PM

I'm very jealous of the new owner of that badge. I've just never seen anything like it before. Congrats.

SnowLady 08-17-2004 06:01 PM

Why is this new item on ebay? :( Makes me sad. Such a priviledge to have.

AOII_LB93 08-17-2004 06:10 PM

FYI again, plaztik says he is a parent of an AOII(I emailed him one time)...if so, why does he bid on other badges? He couldn't possibly have that many kids.

SnowLady 08-19-2004 09:21 AM

Note to self: Just because the picture is enlarged, does not necessarily mean that the object is enlarged.

I thought that the pledge pin was something else. Thank goodness I was set straight. This has been a crazy week. From finding out that my dog isn't able to eat well and my daughter dislocating her thumb every five minutes - I need a calgon (sp?)moment!

AOIIalum 08-19-2004 10:41 AM

Guess it goes to show that we'll never know what we'll find on ebay?

Poor puppy :( Hope that DD's thumb gets better soon, that's no fun.

Roses,
C
