do the lakers have a chance?

i am looking at Game 3, and it seems the Lakers just cannot get it together against the Pistons. i remember this happening several years ago, when they were against the Kings (it was in 2002). i hope that means that the Lakers will come back and win the championship. but if game 3 is any indication, it aint happening.

LeslieAGD 06-11-2004 12:38 AM

Go Pistons! :)

Unregistered- 06-11-2004 02:37 AM

I was taught to spit at the Lakers since I was in the womb.

Detroit...all the way!

AGDee 06-11-2004 06:28 AM

The Pistons looked awesome last night! They were weak in the first half of Game 2, but came back in the second half and gave the Lakers a good run for their money. I think the Pistons will do it, but it will be in 7 games. Here's my prediction. The next two games are in Detroit but I think LA will take one of those and the Pistons will take one. (I don't think we'll win 3 in a row, that's all). Then back to LA and the Lakers will take the first one, with the Pistons winning Game 7.

Go Pistons!

Its still hard to say that the pistons can beat the Lakers but if last night was any indication, hopefully:D

AOIIalum 06-11-2004 07:39 AM

As a Boston Celtics fan, I despise both teams with a passion :)

However, the Pistons currently employ the services of Tayshaun Prince. This fact alone is enough for me to believe the Pistons will kick some serious Laker tail and win the series.

xo_kathy 06-11-2004 10:11 AM

As a native Michigander I really hope the Pistons win! But I would never dicount the Lakers! I mean, they held Kobe to, what, 1 point in the first half? But as soon as they got a little lax in defending him he started nailing shots. I think the Pistons have to be careful to not let their guard down.

As a good friend always used to tell me:
Offense wins games
Defense wins championships

Go Pistons!

Kevin 06-11-2004 10:30 AM

I was surprised as heck. All I've been hearing since the playoffs started was that no one stood a chance against the Lakers.

Good to know that was a myth.

sigtau305 06-11-2004 10:33 AM

If Detroit keep playing Defense like that, They might have a very good chance of winning the whole thing.

KSigkid 06-11-2004 11:11 AM

A big part of it is that Malone is hurt and Payton is not playing well at all. Shaq and Kobe are great, but they need the supporting cast.

I'll be honest, I didn't think Detroit had much of a chance; I was guessing they may win 2 out of the series but that's it.

My hatred of the Lakers makes me like the way this series is going though...

breathesgelatin 06-11-2004 11:18 AM

Please, please let the Lakers lose!!! I dislike them intensely.

I just think it's funny how everyone was saying "The Pistons have no chance" and then this. HA!

PM_Mama00 06-11-2004 01:04 PM

I, quite frankly, am really damn tired of the negative comments about Detroit. I am a Detroiter, and the only city I'd ever choose over Detroit is Brooklyn or New York.

Now, I'm sorry, but what a bunch of friggin sore losers. When you're losing a game.... ok you're upset.... BUT YOU DONT SHOW THE OTHER TEAM THAT ITS GOT YA DOWN!!!!! Dumbasses were sitting there pouting almost the whole game. And then right after Kobe just walks off alone like a little baby.

And Shaq.... why is there so much hype about him? Yeah he's big. I don't know much about basketball but he can't even get a free throw in! But I'll admit that Kobe is pretty damn good.

polarpi 06-11-2004 01:46 PM

As a KINGS fan, as soon as they were eliminated, I was rooting for anyone BUT the Lakers to win (because they're the Kings' biggest rivals). So I'm thrilled with the way this series is going :D

smiley21 06-11-2004 11:38 PM

did anyone notice the score error at final? it said that the lakers won 88-68. it was only up for a few sec before they changed it.

msn4med1975 06-11-2004 11:53 PM

Yes I noticed, I figured it was someone in the booth trying to confuse their bookie or something.

thermobryan 06-12-2004 12:03 AM

Do the lakers have a chance??!!! OMG! The lakers are the greatest team in NBA history, they will come back and destroy!!!

I'm not a big basketball fan, except the Laker 80s, these little boys would pee in their pants if they had to face the line up of the Lakers in the 80s....that being said. I only look at it as more days of work for me (I work at the Staples Center).

I don't think the Lakers will come back, I hope they do only for Karl Malone to get his ring (not that big of a fan of his either).

I watched game 2 and they (Lakers) fell apart and let the Pistons get too many second and third shots. Thank God for Luke Walton THAT boy showed some skill and made some key plays. Hurt-Malone should have got his butt off the court a long time ago. As soon as Kobe made that last second shot, I knew it was theirs.

I too think it will go 7 games....but I really don't think the Lakers as a whole are "feeling" this series, the others, THEY WANTED IT. I'm not feeling the energy here at all.

I would love for the Lakers to win, but I really don't think its going to happen.

ms_gwyn 06-12-2004 03:54 AM

'Nother question.....why is everybody hatin' on the Lakers?

smiley21 06-12-2004 10:34 AM

i do feel that some lakers players are putting in more effort than others. the cant be doing that against the pistons. the lakers will get eaten alive. whether the win the series or not, i am still a lakers fan. i can take all you haters. my bf HATES the lakers. so i have some experience with the haters. although i do not understand why a lot of people cant stand them.

ASTLuv21 06-13-2004 01:36 AM

I think a lot of people dislike the Lakers is because how they act in general, more so because of individual players. I listened to a lot of the interviews and read a lot and many of the Lakers players didn't give credit to the Pistons playing good. I also heard that the way they are. They never seem to give credit to where its deserved, especially if they lose.

I also believe its a very over-rated team. There are many over-rated teams in all pro-sports.

enigma_AKA 06-13-2004 10:12 AM

does anyone watch sportscenter?

I do, truly, believe that the Pistons will win, if only for the fact that they are a great TEAM! The Lakers have a fantastic starting lineup, but are they a good TEAM? Do they have the withall to not "pout" when the chips are down? Or will they rely on dumb last minute decisions and continue to play as if they are not going against a team that actually IS trying to win this? (Did anyone see the little boy who had the sign saying "I see Kobe and Shaq, but where are the Lakers?"...That cracked me up...)

I'd also like to add: Did anyone notice how the comments changed after Game 3 or even after Game 2? At first, it was like, "Well, it'll be fun to watch the Lakers sweep", then it was "Hmmm, maybe the Pistons have a chance" or something along the lines of what the Lakers did WRONG versus what the Pistons were doing right! After Game 2, when it seemed that the Pistons weren't going to let it go without a fight (except for the OT---What happened? ), THEN folks started to say it was for damn sure the Pistons were going to win Game 3 and we all know the rest....:D To be honest, I fault the Lakers! Did they think that the Pistons won the Eastern Conference by fluke? Or that they were chumps? Hahahahaha on them. If they keep thinking like that, they might end up looking like they did last year!

Thrillhouse 06-13-2004 12:05 PM

I think the wrong score the other day was what they "wanted" to see but didn't happen:D

PM_Mama00 06-13-2004 12:43 PM

Sorry to add more negativity towards the Lakers, but I heard on the news that one of Shaq's comments were that they needed to get the ball to him more often, and Kobe said something about it's not about getting the ball to Shaq, it's about winning the game.

This sounds like a game of who's balls are bigger?

It also sounds pathetic that two teammates are budding heads. And come on we've all seen it.... Shaq can't shoot! He's worse than a white man tryin to jump.

Kobe and Shaq have been at each others' throats since they've been teammates. At the beginning of the season Shaq made a comment about Kobe taking it easy after knee surgery, and Kobe made a comment about Shaq not saying anything in the shape he was in.

They just don't get along...period.

oh my, the lakers are putting up a fight tonight

AGDee 06-13-2004 10:19 PM

But, you still see the lack of team work with the Lakers at times, even when they are doing well. During the first quarter, one of the Lakers (missed which one) made a shot which was clearly going into the basket and Shaq grabbed it before it went in and slammed it. That's the kind of thing that looks bad. Super star egos. These last couple minutes of the second quarter are pretty good!

GO PISTONS!

I saw that one, but my favorite was directed towards Jack Nicholson. It said something "Jack...you can't HANDLE the truth!!!" :D

AGDee 06-13-2004 11:00 PM

I have to post a peeve here.. sorry for the hijack BUT...

Why didn't they play this game last night, when we didn't have to get up early the next morning? Detroit fans are walking around like zombies at work every other day because these games are so late! It is my bed time NOW and there are still 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.. and if there's an over time.. ugh!

HAHAHA! No, I am sure Jack is not happy! Actually, I am not terribly partial to either team, but it's been more interesting now that it isn't the Lakers in a sweep. (like many people thought it would be)

Yeah, I'm not necessarily a Detroit Fan, I'm just a "Anybody but the Laker" fan. :p

msn4med1975 06-14-2004 12:24 AM

The game wasn't played yesterday, more than likely, because folks need time to rest. Game three was played the day after they flew back across country. As someone that used to do that more than she wanted can I say that REALLY takes a lot out of you. Rick Hamilton said they were really tired before game three (on sportscenter) but they just had to get it together and handle things which they ultimately did. Plus they like to stretch out the playoffs as long as possible for nothing else but ratings and ad revenue.

smiley21 06-14-2004 03:40 PM

i am disgusted with the lakers right now. last night's game, i actually paid attention to their interaction with each other and their body language. i just have one word: arrogance. i finally see it. i do not see much of a passion in them to win it. maybe they will realize that tomorrow's game is their last chance. but their noses are turned up so high, they cannot realize much of anything.
this doesnt mean that i am going for detroit. cause i do not like them either, for other reasons.

DeltaSigStan 06-14-2004 03:41 PM

I think LA can steal game 5, but they're done....

Pistons in six

Maybe now they'll start acting more like the Pats than the Raiders...

TCV 06-14-2004 06:36 PM

Being a Spurs fan I have to go for the Pistons!!! I can't stand any of the players in Lakerville. It seems any player that puts on that uniform somehow their head gets bigger.

After the Pistons win the Championship and the Lakers are torn apart I pray that the Spurs NOT PURSUE Kobe....PLEASE!!! We don't need ball-hoggers(Sp?).
