This is a rough week. Ray Charles was a great musician and a wonderful person.
|
Very sad.
What an accomplished guy though. He had a great life and overcame a lot of obstacles to be what he was. |
How sad. Georgia on my Mind is classic. It's even the state stong.
|
so sad...
|
wow a great such a musician ... i am in shock
GEORGIA..... i have no words this is a very sad day |
Sad to hear about his passing. His music crossed all generations and touched many people.
|
What the hell? Did someone in heaven lose a bet??
He was an incredibly talented musician, and a really sweet guy. He'll be missed. |
so sad...
such a talented man |
...and there was a lot more to him than I knew. He lost his sight at age 7, but his mother wouldn't let him depend on anyone else. He still had to out for water and do other chores.
Started studying music at a state school for the blind. Patterned himself after Nat King Cole in the beginning. Amazing entertainer. Musical inovater. Super star before the word was invented. |
Although he's gone, his music will be with us always.
:( |
I think he had 60 albums out. That is an amazing amount of work to put out.

I love his music, and he will always make me laugh in The Blues Brothers. |
"Just an old sweet song keeps Georgia on my mind"
Ray, we'll miss you.:( |
I was driving around outside of this wacky town in which I now live today and, as I was searching for a decent radio station, I found a station playing Ray Charles' Georgia On My Mind. I started to tear up, mainly, because it made me feel homesick. I got through the end of the song and that's when the DJ said that Ray Charles had passed away a few hours before. Yeah, I completely lost it then.

ya know what.....i'm gonna stop asking myself when ppl are gonna die. this is the THIRD time this has happened.....
1st time: dave thomas....i saw a wendy's commercial, and i thought...."wonder what they are gonna do when he dies"....next morning, the man had passed away. 2nd time: bob hope....it was his 100th birthday, and the week before there were a lot of his movies on (at this time, i didn't realize his b-day was coming up), and i thought, "how old is he....i will be so sad when he dies....." 2 wks wks later, gone. 3rd time: ray charles....i bought my dad the blues brothers for his b-day in january, and last wk we watched it together.....went straight to his scene where he shoots at the lil boy trying to steal a guitar....and i thought, "i wonder how much longer he'll be around.....he hasn't looked so hot in the lotto commercials" (see, annie....i TOLD you.....) every fourth of july i hear him on the radio, "america, a-mer-i-ca! God shed his grace on thee" and it sends chills up my spine. he will truly be missed. |
a Great man. He will be missed. :(
