1st person you met...

in your sorority or fraternity.

The first person I met was my sister! She became a Soror in 1993 @ Lincoln University in PA.

Kevin 06-10-2004 02:54 PM

Kevin Weaver, director of expansion at the time.

DZHBrown 06-10-2004 02:59 PM

A girl I went to high school with pledged the year before me.

steelepike 06-10-2004 03:00 PM

well if you count the guys that went to school with me, - one played soccer with me for years- who were in my pledge class with me i met them years before i pledged but the first guy i met who was already a brother when i met him was the Rush chairman Jared Harlow. The reason I'm a Pike.

ztabchbum 06-10-2004 03:01 PM

My mom - I've known her since birth. :D

Senusret I 06-10-2004 03:02 PM

Mayor Marion Barry

lifesaver 06-10-2004 03:09 PM

Jon Hoffman, my big.

Amazing dude. The big brother I never had growing up.

NinjaPoodle 06-10-2004 03:11 PM

Veronica Adams of our Beta Omega chapter, Grambling State University. We met because I was lost on campus and she directed me to the correct location. Come to find out later she was the SA president and Basileus (president) of her chapter.:)

33girl 06-10-2004 03:12 PM

A girl on my dorm floor who I didn't really like at the time (she was pledging when I met her). She was much more fun when you got to know her. She was also self-aware enough to ask me later "you didn't really like me, did you?" To be fair, I think it was mostly the fault of her roomie, who was a whack job and clingy.

One of my sisters I met my first week of school (our boyfriends were friends) but she didn't pledge till the next spring...so technically I met her earlier, but before she was ASA.

Ditto!

Sister Havana 06-10-2004 03:23 PM

My sophomore year roommate pledged APO the semester before I did.

huskies228 06-10-2004 03:48 PM

A girl on my floor in the dorm. She was so down to earth and very dedicated. She peeked my interest and then personally invited me to rush. I never looked back.

ThetaPam 06-10-2004 03:56 PM

A girl from my dance class first semester who wore a Theta shirt to class. She turned out to be in charge of my new member class as the VP of Education, as well as one of my favorite sisters!

Cardinal026 06-10-2004 03:56 PM

By a fluke, I was a freshman living in Junior dorms, so both my roommates were Chi Omegas, had been for two years, on exec board, etc. They pretty much made it their job to convince me to rush. I thank them everyday!:D

SSmith15 06-10-2004 04:29 PM

A co-worker of mine at a retail job the summer before college had been a Tri Delta in New York. She was SO awesome, and completely supported me when I decided to rush. She was SO classy, and when I met the Tri Delta sisters at my university, I knew that they were too, and that I had found a place for my heart :)

Stacekat 06-10-2004 04:42 PM

I met my Big Sis in German Class. A few minutes later she re-introduced me to a friend of mine that I had known basically since birth who was in a fraternity. My big sis and i are still great friends. She talked me into volunteering on the alumna side. Now I'm the Chapter Adviser! I love my sisters :)

Lil_ChiO_Lady 06-10-2004 05:17 PM

I met my New Member Mommy, and my other two sisters. When they approached me at the Student Center and invited me out to a sisterhood event going to eat(and i can never turn down food, lol)that night. She was the cutest lil thing and i thought they were really nice and outgoing.Well needless to say i absolutely loved them and accepted my bid the next night.:D

GeekyPenguin 06-10-2004 05:20 PM

My neighbor when she new membered, however it turns out that my throw coach's wife is a Gamma Phi from another chapter, I just didn't know that then!

That's my lil sis! Woohoo! =)

Hmmm..first person would have to have been two people at the same time, the president of my house before I rushed (met her at a party) and she was with another AOII at the time as they were inseparable.

The first greeks I met were not the best representatives for greek life though...and they were rude to me, so I think that made it worse.

ILLINIgirl 06-10-2004 06:58 PM

first person...

Megan, my pledge mom :D

AOIIalum 06-10-2004 07:32 PM

I met Denise at my summer orientation before college. We knew each other from Junior Achievement in HS. I knew she was in a sorority, but not which one until I saw her at a rush party!

KSUViolet06 06-10-2004 07:49 PM

My supervisor @ work during high school is a Sigma alumna from Adrian College in Michigan. :)

PhiPsiRuss 06-10-2004 07:54 PM

My roommate pledged when I was a sophomore, and then dragged me to the house. So, he's the first Phi Psi that I knew was a Phi Psi.

aephi alum 06-10-2004 08:40 PM

The first person I met in my local was the girl who picked me up at the door when I arrived for my first rush event. She became my big sister. :)

When we began the process of affiliating with a national sorority, I had the honor of meeting several women who were national officers at the time. They were the first AEPhis I met who were actively representing. (I'm sure I must have run into an AEPhi or two before then, but I didn't know they were AEPhis.)

starang21 06-10-2004 08:51 PM

my dean.

lyrica9 06-10-2004 08:58 PM

my first high school boyfriend's female relatives.
i just found out they're all ADPis when i visited his family last month. the whole night i was saying "i can't believe your grandmother is my sister!"

tnxbutterfly 06-10-2004 08:58 PM

The first person I meet from Theta Nu was actually someone I met here on GC (2000) She wasn't actually in the sorority back then. We became great friends and when she became a Theta Women, I was so happy for her. I was still reseearching sororites back then. So one day I decided to check out the website (Dec 2001) and it was the start of something ONEderful:D

The first person I met in real life were the members of my chapter.
The first person I met from GC was: butterfly2001nc. We met at Convention last year

WhiteDaisy128 06-10-2004 09:02 PM

My mom!! :-D

honeychile 06-10-2004 09:05 PM

You'll love this one...

The first Alpha Delta Pi I met during Recruitment was Beverly Richards, a very dear sister.

But I later found out that my Sex Education Teacher from high school was also an ADPi!!!!!!!

hannahgirl 06-10-2004 09:43 PM

I met two of my sisters before they were DGs. One graduated two years ahead of me and the other was in all-star band with me my junior year and went to church with a friend of mine. I saw them on campus during my first week recruiting and convinced me to go through...so I did.

DeltAlum 06-10-2004 09:56 PM

The guy who was student program director at the university radio station was pledge master and later Chapter President. Another of the guys working at the station was also a Delt. They were the first two.

abaici 06-10-2004 11:46 PM

My aunt (followed by my Kindergarten teacher)

Peaches-n-Cream 06-10-2004 11:57 PM

My first weekend of college, the RAs gave the freshmen a tour of the campus. One of those RAs was wearing DPhiE letters so she was the first.

Optimist Prime 06-11-2004 12:21 AM

The first person I met was Colin. WElll, he was the first one of the people I knew that joined. I met him like a couple days before Kuhlman. The real first person I met that ended up as my pledge brother was Rob.

cntryZTA5 06-11-2004 12:36 AM

The first ZTA that I met was walking around campus with another sorority woman to sign up girls for recruitment. When recruitment started, the first ZTA I met became my big sis! She is still one of my best friends.

preciousjeni 06-11-2004 02:32 AM

The first person/people I met were Theta Nu Xi's Zeta Chapter founders. I met them over email though. The first person I met in-person was my Dean.

shadokat 06-11-2004 09:35 AM

My orientation leader was a d phi e and there were only 2 girls and 7 guys in our group. So she did her best to make us comfortable. BOTH of us ended up pledging :D Stacy rocks!

ISUKappa 06-11-2004 09:57 AM

My (biological) sister. She's four years older than me and I really had no clue about sororities until she joined.

Later I also found out there were a few alumnae living in my (small) hometown but I didn't know it before I joined.

My great-aunt was way cool, and once, I was having lunch with her & her friends and mentioned that I was in a sorority. One of the ladies said that she was a ZTA, and I was thrilled! She was the first ZTA I ever met, and a very lovely lady (she had to be, to be my aunt's friend! :) ).

delta gamma was colonizing at nc state and i got interested a little too late to become a founding sister. but in one of my very boring classes was the most influential person for me in regards to greek life and delta gamma. i didn't know her, but i overheard her talking to a guy she sat beside about her dg experience. eventually i inquired about it and she was very encouraging. i went through their first "formal rush" which was really in the spring and i got to pref night and didn't get a bid. i was absolutely crushed. she was very upset as well and couldn't believe i didn't get a bid. a few weeks later she told me that there would be a COB event coming up soon and that i should go to it. i told her, why would they want me now if they didn't want me then. she told me, don't worry about it, just go and you'll be fine. she said DG just needed to get another look at me. so as painful as it was, i swallowed my pride and pushed myself to go. and now i'm so happy i did because now i am part of a wonderful organization! when i asked all of the girls what they thought when i came back to the COB event, they all said they really admired me for it and that it was very impressive. so, thanks so much meredith turnbull!
