Convention Countdown

Hi ladies,

Convention is in 13 days. I am so excited!!!! Is everyone ready? I still need an outfit for collegiate awards or need to figure out what I can wear that I already have.

I can't wait to see everyone (esp. aphigal who will be celebrating a very fun bday earlier that week and her little guy).

lauralaylin 06-10-2004 01:04 PM

Am I the only person not going? :( I'm so envious. I'm going to the next one, thank god it's back on the east coast. I hope everyone has a great time!

a CA in CA 06-10-2004 01:21 PM

Yep! 30 push-ups a day until it's time to go. Gotta get those arms toned for sleeveless!:D

I have no dress for candlelight though, and I'm not wearing the one I wore last time. I'm going power-shopping either Saturday or Sunday. Oh, and I need a haircut!

I was going to start a countdown thread yesterday with "who you can't wait see at convention", but then I realized my own list would be waaaaaay too long!

My one problem, I always forget to bring pictures. Everyone keep reminding me please!

IheartAphi 06-10-2004 06:12 PM

Where is it at?

I wish I had a real job and could go to things. I love being an Alpha Phi nerd.

Could you imagine if they had it in Las Vegas! We would tear the city down! However, the excitment of sister hood and candle lights is more fun than gambling and booze.

bruinaphi 06-10-2004 08:46 PM

Convention is in Palm Springs this year. It should be great! The idea of Vegas during that time of year does not excite me much. The heat would kill us! In '02 we were in Arizona and that was bad, and I know that PS will be bad, but I can't imagine Vegas.

I am hoping that Convention will be a ton of fun!

aphibeach 06-10-2004 09:23 PM

yall have a good time out there! :)

cutiepatootie 06-10-2004 10:39 PM

Lauralaylin...you and I so far are not going...but i hope to go to next one.

Where is the enxt convention being held at?

Sistermadly 06-11-2004 05:53 AM

Who I can't wait to see at convention....

ALL OF MY SISTERS! :D

I still don't have a dress, and like CA, I'm going to be doing some power shopping over the next few days. I just hope I'm not expected to be a fashion plate!

ETA - is the website down? As of this writing, the domain name isn't resolving.

bruinaphi 06-11-2004 12:25 PM

The website seems to be working now.

Sistermadly 06-11-2004 12:27 PM

Thanks, LD. :)

Aphigal 06-11-2004 01:09 PM

OMG soooo much to do.

Getting my roots done this wknd (thank god). Dress for candlelight is being shortened and can be picked up the 15th.

Dropping off a ton at the drycleaners on Saturday.

Need to make a shopping list for LD so I don't have to lug all the needed baby supplies.

Need to figure out what I am wearing each day and try to match shoes so I don't end up bringing a ton of extra pairs.

Need to finish rounding up my donations for the Foundation Walk.

Arrrrggghh

bsp-mich24 06-11-2004 03:41 PM

I can't wait to put faces to names.:) I hope that the weekend-ers don't miss out on too much. The flight is due in @ 9:34am on Friday. I still need to get the rental reservations done though.

I have a very basic dress but will still look for a fancier one. I've got to give the gals who are doing power push-ups and such --not me I will find a thin lacy shawl to cover it all up. LOL

ladyj39, I hope you can get the time off or at least the weekend to join us--Congrats on your new job!!!

a CA in CA 06-11-2004 05:59 PM

Aphigal, are you taking your little man to "The Happiest Place on Earth" before heading into the desert? If so, I have a tip for you!

Aphigal 06-11-2004 08:22 PM

no..not enough vacation time from work plus at 6 months I don't think he would really enjoy it!

gogoaphi 06-14-2004 01:18 PM

How much is everyone raising in donations for the "Move Your Phi't" walkathon? So far I'm up to $500.00 ... is that low/high/about right? :)

ladyj39 06-18-2004 01:27 AM

Wow, I haven't been on GC in ages!

Good news, gals! I got the days off and I will be in Palm Springs next week! :D

Now, I need to find outfits and a red dress! My registration packet said I can also accessorize with red, so my last resort will be that. I'm so excited for my first convention! :)

Sistermadly 06-18-2004 01:46 AM

I'm accesorizing with red.. I just couldn't find anything dressy enough that didn't make me look cheap or like the side of a barn. :(

Sorry to crash, but AOII had their Convention there in June 2001 - OMG, was it HOT!!! Even inside, the humidity was rampant! Definately suggest bringing a little sweater for anything inside - that A/C can be really chilly!! (If you are at the Marriott Desert Springs - the pools and gym are AWESOME!)

Have a fabulous time!!!

bruinaphi 06-18-2004 11:43 AM

We're at the Marriott Rancho Las Palmas. It is chilly inside but I would not say it's humid inside or out. Palm Springs, like the rest of So Cal, has dry heat and I've been to this hotel before and it wasn't over humid inside.

Only a few more days. Last night I did a bunch of Convention shopping. YEAH!!!

cutiepatootie 06-18-2004 05:40 PM

I live an hour away from Palm Springs and i can tell you it is definitely not humid. DRY DRY HEAT!

I am getting more and more jealous :( i want to go but budget wise being out of work for surgery for 6 weeks has hurt a lot.

Hope you all have a great time!

LAura

Gosh I can't believe it's almost time! Sistermadly, you are too funny about the red dress thing. You're right, red was tough to find. My dress is a little "young" and "cha-cha" but I figured what the heck and decided to go for it! Candlelight is such a great opportunity to get dressed up in something FUN. I live out in an itty-bitty town now where Denny's is the best thing going. Yikes!! But who knows, I'll probably pack my black dress anyway in case I chicken out. :D

Aphigal 06-18-2004 11:03 PM

side of barn here! OMG that's too funny (although my dress is very bright red so I am think oh no!!...)

I need to find lipstick to wear with it!!

bruinaphi 06-18-2004 11:15 PM

APHIGAL call me! I know you won't look like a barn BTW. I may though. UGH!

Can't wait to see everyone!

Aphigal 06-19-2004 08:58 PM

OK I am starting to pack tonight...and freak out because I have so much to do!

I picked up my dress and it looks good...LD bring safety pins in case I need to pin it a bit -k??

Sistermadly 06-20-2004 01:40 PM

Please tell me that people aren't packing three outfits per day. I'll be woefully underpacked if that's the case. :(

bruinaphi 06-21-2004 01:40 AM

C - How many outfits depends upon the day. Most days are only one or at most two outfits. Friday is probably going to be more like three only b/c we have sessions in the morning, initiation in the afternoon, Move Your Phit after initiation, and then dinner and reunions at night.

Can't wait to see everyone!

Sistermadly 06-21-2004 03:24 AM

*whew* That's a relief! I was planning on one per day except for Friday. Of course, when it actually comes time to pack, I'll probably overpack like usual. :)

Aphigal 06-21-2004 10:45 AM

Let's see...

thursday is collegiate awards which I am packing another dress for...(black Ann Taylor tank and LD's pink pashmena)

friday - need business attire for convention assembled, white for initiation and shorts and SNEAKERS for move your feet. Dinner is going to be a casual buffet so I may actually wear move my feet clothes to that because I am not sure I will have time to change before.

Wed night is casual.

cutiepatootie 06-21-2004 11:01 AM

Hey i believe in the fine art of overpacking.....rather have to much than not the right essentials!

My theory is this...3 outfits a day at leat you can pick and choose and change up outfit attires.

So is it for sure convention will be in Florida next time around?

gogoaphi 06-21-2004 11:16 AM

Overpacking is a great strategy. Even if the occasions of the day don't necessarily *require* a change of clothing, it is sometimes nice in the hot weather to freshen up with something different. Know what I mean? ;)

*POUT* I think I'm going to miss initiation due to Rush U ...

a CA in CA 06-21-2004 02:25 PM

Ooh! I didn't think of wearing something dressier for collegiate awards--fun! <<<racing to the closet and tearing it apart again>>>

My red dress is sparkly, but I don't like the shoes I picked out.:(

Sistermadly 06-21-2004 02:45 PM

My big problem is that I was a student for such a LONG time that all of my clothes fall on the casual side. BC is notoriously casual, even in the workplace, so I don't have to dress like an adult at work.

So if you fashionistas see me wandering around looking like an urchin, be kind, mmkay?

Aphigal 06-21-2004 06:17 PM

That's so funny you say that! I can wear jean to work everyday if I want...so my suits are more for Alpha Phi! (because of my volunteer role I don't really have a choice...)

First of all no one will judge you -we are all sisters. Its all about personal style and looking the best in whatever you choose to wear. Not being the stepford wives or anything.

Of course convention in Puerto Rico when someone came to convention assembled in ALTER short terry skirt (clearly with her bathing suit on underneath) and her accessory -the BAR SWIZZLE STICKS to keep her hair up (I kid you not!) Yeah I totally judged her!

Sistermadly 06-21-2004 06:31 PM

Aww... I feel totally warm and fuzzy. And as for the swizzle sticks... they'd match the 'cocktail dress' I'm planning to wear to Dessert Under the Stars, but I promise not to put them in my hair. :D

IheartAphi 06-21-2004 07:38 PM

I am so jealous--- Hopefully everyone can come to the one next year and I can partake in the fun!

bruinaphi 06-22-2004 10:45 AM

Woohoo! It's time to finish packing and head off to work. I can't believe it's time to head out there.

Jill1228 06-22-2004 12:38 PM

Girl, I feel ya! I am jealous! I guess I have to live vicariously thru SisMadly because I am taking her to the airport (sigh)

Ya know I hate ya, right? :D ;)

ladyj39 06-23-2004 01:42 PM

I'll be at Rush U too! What other events will we miss? I guess I should figure it out so it will keep me from overpacking. well, overpacking too much :)

I have to cram in some red dress shopping after work tonight! I haven't had any time to do anything! I didn't realize the collegiate awards were dressy too!

Jill1228 06-25-2004 08:02 PM

Hope you all are having fun while we are here slaving away! :p Did anyone order a convention t-shirt???

cutiepatootie 06-25-2004 08:11 PM

I totally forgot about those... i didnt know you could order them outside of convention
