Great greek dies...

As we Tekes say, Frater Ronald Wilson Reagan, Iota chapter,
Eureka College...entered the Chapter Eternal today.
Dutch was 93, and a great supporter of the greek system.
He was a much loved man, and politics aside, he burned few
bridges. We will all miss him. R.I.P., frater...

Rudey 06-05-2004 04:57 PM

:( He will be missed incredibly.

What a kind and natural man, the "citizen-politician", left us today. The death of Ronald Reagan was to be expected, with the extent of his journey into Alzheimer's, but Americans mourn him still.

Godspeed, Mr. President.

cutiepatootie 06-05-2004 06:20 PM

a very sad day for a very great man! But now he is at peace and no more pain surrounds him.

Very sad, but what life he led. Our nation's thoughts will be with his family. :(

Alzheimer's Disease is the one disease I fear most. At least the suffering is over.

Rudey 06-05-2004 07:37 PM

Does anyone know if presidential libraries are open to the public?

-Rudey

Peaches-n-Cream 06-05-2004 07:39 PM

My deepest sympathy.

Did any of you have the privilege of meeting your brother Ronald Reagan?

I think that they are often run like museums, so that there are exhibits that are public. It may, however, be difficult to get access to archives.

Here is Reagan's:

tinydancer 06-05-2004 07:42 PM

My condolences to his family. I am sure his illness was extremely hard on all of them. May he be at peace.

Rudey, yes, presidential libraries are open to the public. I have been to the LBJ Library in Austin many times. Very interesting to see, and I would recommend visiting any of them. Yes, parts are restricted, (the actual archives and papers) but the many open exhibits are well worth your time.

Sad day...

A very sad day across the nation for my fellow Fraters in Tau Kappa Epsilon, and Americans as a whole...

As a little tribute, here's the link to the website of our TKE chapter at Sacramento State... It begins with a small piece of a video made by TKE in the 60's featuring Frater Reagan...

http://www.maddstudios.com/tke/

As a Teke, it makes me a little sad... :(

Yes indeed Frater Reagan... it is the fraternity for life...

He displayed those principles in the most outward form - as president of the United States...

Rest in peace in the Chapter Eternal Frater...
Th** Wi** I* B*...
:(

Erik P Conard 06-05-2004 08:08 PM

yes, I met Ronald Reagan...

I have posted a couple of anecdotes, memories of Reagan in the
TKE site, so will not repeat here.
He was, at times, a nervous man, but charmed undergrads all over the USA, not just Tekes, but man other greeks. And, both
he and his brother John Neil Reagan served as president of the
TKE chapter at tiny little Eureka College in IL Delta Sigma Phi,
Lambda Chi Alpha and TKE are the fraternities there. All are of
a reasonable health as chapters.
Some folks have said he never drank...not true, not true at all.
He was outgoing to all kids wearing letters and he was host to
almost a thousand Tekes on the White House lawn, pictures in
The Teke magazine. Ohio State greeks will never forget him as
he invited all the Greek presidents, fraternity and sorority, to dine
with him in the TKE "castle" house in Columbus. I have been told
all attended save one...whose father had suffered a coronary the
night before. Reagan called the hospital and chatted with the young man...I have been told this was true...at any rate, he was
a memorable man, I saw him three times.
He took his fraternity membership seriously...he never forgot...

g41965 06-05-2004 08:20 PM

Sad day, first President I voted for in 1984. In retrospect I think he will be looked upon as a decent man and a better than average President.
He seems so emblematic of the 20th Century, from a small town, radio announcer, star, new deal democrat ,union leader , Goldwater Republican, Gov. and President and a good fraternity man. What an odessey.

Yes both Nixon and Reagan library are both open to the public, but i just heard on local So Cal. news that Reagans library will be closed for the next 7 days as his coffin lies there at the library before going to DC.

dekeguy 06-05-2004 11:29 PM

I wonder how "Hail to the Chief" sounds on golden harps? As a brother DEKE said today of that great interfraternal brother TKE, he is now in that shining city! May God bless and reward our late President and may He also bless and comfort his wife and family.

Fitting tribute to his legacy as a TKE is a donation to the Alzheimer's Association.

https://www.alz.org/donate/RR/eprocess1.asp

I worked for the Alz Association and the work they do is so vital to battling Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias.

To the TKE Brothers, take pride in the quality of the brother who walked among you for a while. He was a inspirational in his devotion to GLO's and the Greek spirit.

SGill4613 06-06-2004 01:34 AM

To do great things, we must believe in great things.

Although I know nothing of the TKE ritual, it is my hope that the former president not only believed in it, but acted out of its teachings.

It is my belief that good brothers understand our rituals, but great brothers practice them all the time. While some of what we learn in the college experience might be considered negative, a good brother always turns it into a positive experience.

TKE, you need not be sad for losing a great brother, but be happy for being able to call him your brother.

Ive been to the Reagan library a ton of times. Its about 10 minutes from my house. The museum is open to the public and is awesome. There is a huge slab of the Berlin wall there that is absolutely amazing.

He will definetely be missed.

May God Grant President Reagan Eternal Peace and Rest. What a great loss for the American People and The World.

My Condolences and Prayers to Nancy, his family, America, and all his Teke Brothers. What a great man, what a great greek

Reagan: Awesome American, Awesome Republican

SurfinDBeach 06-06-2004 03:39 PM

Teke Spirit...

Reagan, from what can be observed (his glowing optimism and spirit) is most definitely reflective of the TEKE SPIRIT...

The Teke spirit is bold, and is reflected in both the declaration of principles, the "opportunity out of defeat" speech, and of course, our ritual, which means very much to us...

There is a line created by one of the founders - that Tekes are to be of "Sterling Character and Staunch Uprightedness"...

Certainly, Frater Reagan was BOTH...

Ronald Reagan is the first President I voted for in 1984 when I was finally of age to vote. I was very sad on the day he left office, grief-stricken when he wrote his letter to the nation that he had alzheimers, and now I am heart-broken that he is gone. I had a chance to visit the Reagan Presidential Library last year in Simi Valley. If you have never been, you should take the opportunity to go any time you are in Southern CA. You will be inspired. So many great memories are contained there and now he will rest in peace there as well. Farewell to a man that touched America's heart like few ever have or will in the future!

In the bonds of Fraternity.

sigtau305 06-07-2004 09:18 AM

Ronald Reagan will be missed. RIP. :(

shadokat 06-07-2004 09:29 AM

May we all remember and rejoice in President Reagan's legacy. While I was only 6 when he was elected, he is the one president that remains in my memory as a great man in my lifetime. Godspeed, Dutch. You make us all proud to be Americans!

angelove 06-07-2004 10:38 AM

I still get tears in my eyes when I realize that he's gone. You Tekes were lucky to have him as one of your brothers, and the world was lucky to have him as a leader.

mrblonde 06-07-2004 11:44 AM

He represented the best men America propagates. He will be sorely missed by all.

Tom Earp 06-07-2004 04:48 PM

While many do not know it, LXA And TKE have been somewhat close for many Years.

Our Houses are next door to each other in Indy, and there was almost a merger back when.

I have know many TEKEs over the years and have total Respect for Them and any Brother of TKE!

While I made fun of Him I still had respect for Him and Voted for Him, in jest on a site,One Thing That Impressed Me The most was a TV Correspondent was the Comparison Between He and Harry Truman.
Different times or were They.

One LXA, One TKE! Paradox some where in this!:D

rosejoy 06-08-2004 05:30 PM

Very sad indeed...I remember in like second or third grade we had a mock election and i voted for him over Carter just because I thought he looked like a nice man.

I saw a story on MSN about how he was a pen pal and actually dear friend of an inner city boy. They wrote back and forth over the course of seven years. Reagan had him to the WH on several occasions and even went to the boy's house for dinner. He sent the boy presents and even talked with him on the phone. It was really a touching story and showed a lot about Reagan's true character.

We so seldom hear of all the wonderful things people do until they are gone. He will be missed.
