What do you look for in people's houses?

What things do you observe when you are visiting someone's house for the first time?

AznSAE 06-08-2004 10:54 AM

entertainment center
game room or media room

AOIIBrandi 06-08-2004 10:55 AM

Books, you can tell a lot about a person by what books they have on shelves or lying around. Also artwork and general decor.

winneythepooh7 06-08-2004 10:55 AM

Well the social-workey part of me looks for pictures and sentimental kinds of things. That shows a lot about a person, what they value and also if they have people close to them in their life. I also look at a person's living quarters, how do they manage their space? Are they clean or are they dirty? Then I also look at color in their place, kinds of items they have, this can say a lot about a person.

Nobody ever asks to see your video collection.

Why do women always want to see a guy's CD collection? Why?

Is it to get some glimpse of their psyche w/out bothering to just spend time with them to ge to known them? Why?

ZTAngel 06-08-2004 11:22 AM

Cleanliness. I'm huge stickler for that in my own home. I get skeeved out when I see dirty dishes in someone's sink or newspapers strown across the floor/kitchen table.

Yes. Music is very important.

If a guy has Guns 'n' Roses next to Frank Sinatra in the CD rack, it's pretty safe to say that he's smokin cool.

If he has nothing but country music, we might get along but we'll probably listen to a lot of Elvis (because it seems he's like the Switzerland between rock & country).

If a guy is like 30 and has 5 albums, i.e. he doesn't HAVE a musical taste one way or another, I doubt we'll ever be able to have a conversation.

To answer the thread question, I always check out someone's bathroom the most.

I look at the cleanliness of the place and the state of the house - is the paint chipping, etc. This doesn't really apply to friends in apts because college apts are usually dirty and the people don't actually own them or have to worry about the upkeep. Cleanliness is a big deal to me but I've only started noticing the state of the houses because of my mom. She flips out if people come over and our house isn't perfect so it's gotten me to notice other people's houses. I'm not a snob though...like if there house needs to be repainted I'm not going to think anything different about them.

I look for:

Religious para such as crosses

Anything with a saying

Kind of TP-I frown on generic white TP. It only takes a few cents more to buy soft TP.

Books and Magazines

DVD and CD collections-the greater the variety the greater the impression.

Signs

Inside vs Outside-If the outside looks better, I consider them as fakes to a degree.

Collections-I don't know why, because it can be a insignificant reflection on people. If someone saw my candle and shot glass collection, I bet they would assume that I'm a romantic and heavy drinker. I'm neither.

Pictures-Do you find it weird that someone displays pictures of places and things on the wall, but pictures of people in albums?

Cleanliness (both in terms of dust/grime and in terms of clutter)
Overall decor
Little details... fresh flowers on the table, etc.

Munchkin03 06-08-2004 08:34 PM

Books, movies, and music.
Cleanliness. I'm allergic to dust and I hate clutter.
Landscaping, if the person lives in a house.

DolphinChicaDDD 06-08-2004 09:54 PM

Number One: The Bathroom.
And I don't mean the snooping around looking in medicine cabnets...I am not a stalker. I mean is the sink clean, is there mold in the tub, and would I be scared to sit on the seat in this bathroom. There have been plenty of guy's bathrooms where I have seriously contemplated "hovering" or "nesting" (ladies, ya'll know what I'm talking about, where you put millions of layer of tp on the seat cause its gross ;) ).

Number Two: The kicthen
The sink and the fridge. If the sink has dishes upon dished upon dishes that looks like it hasn't been done in weeks, that creeps me out. I can deal with a pot, some plates or utnesils or something like that. If the fridge has some nasty green crap all over the food, that is disturbing too.

Other than those two things, as long as there isn't dirty stuff around (ie. a plate with last night dinners on the floor by the couch) I'm okay.
Litterboxes in visable areas kinda skeeve me too.

Glitter650 06-09-2004 02:55 AM

CD/DVD collections
Pics (who's in them and if they have any)
Any other things they choose to put on the walls
Books
Cleanliness... I'm not totally anal... like as long as the dishes are in the sink and not sitting around in random places ... no really just disgusting stuff around it's all good... especially the kicthen and bathroom... they should be kept so that you know it's sanitary.

hugsandkisses 11-02-2004 06:28 PM

oxycotin, oxycodone, percacet....

cashmoney 11-02-2004 06:53 PM

I used to snoop through chicks drawers while they were taking showers or using the bathroom if I had recently met them and started hanging out. I was always wanting to know whether or not they had dildos stashed away in their thong drawer that way I'd know ahead of time whether not they were freaky. I never got caught and I found many dildos. It was kind of cool because by the time we'd get really drunk and started making out, I'd bust off with "You'd know what be cool, if you had a dildo and I could use it on you." Their eyes lit up like christmas trees.

DGqueen17 11-02-2004 07:37 PM

I'm really nosy so I look at everything.

Always look in the drawer beside a dudes bed. See if he has Magnums. If he doesn't just leave.

cutiepatootie 11-02-2004 07:50 PM

Cleanliness, Books they read, how they live and their decor so i can get ideas of how to decorate my house!:)

tinydancer 11-02-2004 10:02 PM

Must be the librarian in me, cause I always look over the books. If they have a book you have read, you can always bring that up if the conversation lags.

AXO_MOM_3 11-02-2004 10:24 PM

I always look at the furniture and decor first! Next I look to see how clean the kitchen and bath are, especially if dinner is being served!
