T-Mobile
My contract with AT&T ends in 2 wks and I am planning on switching companies. There is a deal with T-Mobile I am looking at but I don't know anyone who has/had a contract with them. I asked one of my guy friends and he just says go for it Catherine Zeta-Jones is hot...because I pick my cell phone providers based on the looks of their spokesperson  So if anyone has an useful insight it would be great. Any thoughts for or against the company?
|
I've been with them for a little over 2 years and it's been great for me. I've had to work with customer service a few times and they've been really helpful, no complaints.
|
T-Mobile is the American marketing name for Deutsche Telekom, formerly VoiceStream. They're currently undergoing some major expansion building and upgrading cell phone towers, especially in the Dallas and southern/central Virginia areas - I used to work for the company that designed cell towers for them.
Those I know who have T-Mobile are somewhat satisfied with their service. |
I've had T-Mobile (well, first VoiceStream) for a few years now and been nothing but pleased with them.
When there was a weird bug with my voicemail when I first got my phone, I called customer service, was immediately transferred to a real human being, and we worked through the problem, which was fixed right there while I waited. The fees are reasonable, although make sure if you want free nights that you specify that you want them. (Old VoiceStream plans had no nights designation -- minutes were minutes except on the weekends). I've been given 200 free minutes a month for 'loyalty' -- it's kinda groovy. When I upgraded my phone, I got a $100 rebate as a real check, not just a crappy credit to my account. I've gotten my roommate, his girlfriend, and two other friends of mine to use this company as well and they're all quite pleased. *looks up at her post* No, I do *not* work for T-mobile :D I'm just a firm believer in giving praise where it's due and I'm very satisfied with this company. ' just my many many cents ;) |
I don't like them. Their service hasn't covered me everywhere.
-Rudey --And each carrier is different from city to city. |
(mount soapbox)
Personally, I have ATT and I don't know why! I hate them and their cruddy service (as in, lack of towers) and poor service I get when I need to speak with a person. (/end rant) I realize I offered you NO insight into TMobile but I made myself laugh... And I needed that today!! Thanks, sister!! |
I have T-Mobile, and I've usually been happy with them. I wasn't happy with them when I spent a weekend in Oneonta, NY, with no cell phone coverage. And one of my favorite bars (The Gingerman) has terrible reception for T-Mobile inside, while other carriers seem to do well. Other than that, I was very happy when they let me pick a phone number that ends with "1852" as that's Phi Psi's year of founding.

T-MOBILE ROCKS! :D
no I don't work for them either, but I just LOVE them. No they don't cover every where, but they are expanding. I've had the best customer service experience with them and I have my sister on my plan and no matter the problem, they always work with you to clear it and sometimes, they even apologize with extra minutes or something. And their rates are reasonable. |
TMobile is great as long as you don't often venture into rural areas. If you are in a major metropolitan area, a decent sized city, or along a major highway, your coverage will be stellar. In case you ever decide to go overseas, get a GSM compatible phone and you can use it (albeit a bit expensively) from there. Also you can get the cool cellphones from overseas that we don't get for years afterward and your SIM card will work. TMobile is a decent deal and much less shady than other companies I've dealt with (those being Cingular and Sprint).
|
I love T-Mobile. Absolutely no complaints from me! Their customer service is quick & efficient! And I've never been in an area that T-Mobile didn't support (even if they do use other company's towers they don't charge you extra) & I've been to the eastern mountains of KY (if you've ever been there then you know what I'm talking about) w/ no problems!!!
|
We have TMobile and have been very happy with them. Customer Service has been very helpful and always very friendly.
|
I have AT&T wireless too and i also have had when in OKC voice stream and voice stream was horrible.....i am getting tired of lack of bars in my area with ATT any good calif based wireless plans anyone can suggest?

Looks like I'm not the only one that has had problems with AT&T. I swear I am on the phone with them every other month about some billing issue. My favorite, and most recent, was when they billed me for long distance for calls I made in VT. Keep in mind that i have free nationwide long distance and roaming. When I talked to the customer service rep he refused to back down, claiming no fault on AT&T's part and that my NATIONWIDE coverage didnt include VT. I loved how AT&T has redrawn our borders and apparently we only have 49 states  |
T-mobile does not work inside my apartment in the city (Detroit). I haven't always been satisfied with the # of bars I get, but I think they are working on the towers. Their customer service is very friendly and helpful. I had a problem with T-zone(internet connection) and they replaced my phone. That's a good thing because my phone cost me over $400.
Overall its a 7 out of 10 |

OMG!! *MY* latest complaint was also being charged LD! I no longer have Nationwide service, but I DID have free LD, until I went on Nationwide for 2 months due to travel. When they switched me back to Local service I got charged for LD! THEN they magnanimously offered to give me free LD (and reverse last month's LD charge) for signing up for anther year. That is EXACTLY what the guy told me 5 months ago when I switched from National to Local service.  Of course, I'm the idiot who stays with them. Did I mention my company has a huge corporate relationship so I get a 20% discount? I wonder if that's worth the aggravation... |
That sounds like classic AT&T. they are nortorious for pulling crud like that. I am on the phone to customer service a lot with them... Did you get that letter recently from them regarding the fact that Cingular has bought them out and changing over sometime next yr
I try not to use as much as i can and just wait my contract out but i do want to switch badly! My ex husband just moved back to Oklahoma recently and he was telling me that he had the free nationwide and roaming plan and he just got his bill and about fell over fromthe fees......AT&T sucks! he is a cheap anyways so serves him right!:) heheh |
Unless T-Mobile has majorly upgraded their service in the past year I would NOT recommend them unless you'll be only in major metropolitan areas. They were my first provider (as Voice Stream) when I moved to Texas (had to change because my previous provider in Ohio and NC did not provide service in TX). First thing I noticed was that even with the volume turned all the way up, I had to shout and did not have service inside my house. NO where in Plano could I get more than 3 bars. Then, I tried to travel. Biggest reason for me to have a cellphone is for long car trips by myself. Glad I didn't break down on the drive from Ohio to Texas because there was 'no service' ANYWHERE along the road (all major highways like I-40) .... hard to belive that the entire state of Arkansas is out of the service area! I also tried to use it in rural Western Mass/ Southern Vermont-- no service whatsoever. I would have gladly paid roaming charges but T-mobile doesn't roam. There also was no service anywhere on the Ohio Turnpike/ NY Thruway. How can I-90 be 'out of the service area' unless you don't have adequate towers... when I switched I was told that T-mobile could only use their own towers where other services can use towers that belong to other companies. What good are free minutes if there isn't anyplace to use them?
I switched to Cingular and have been very happy. Always have good reception, no billing issues and best of all, it works indoors, outdoors, at home or on the road. |
Yep with Cingular for many years now! Great coverage.
Calling Jill sucked in B C Canada, doubled my phone bill!:( |
I had t-shittle for a year, its sucks, crappy service, horrible....I got NEXTEL, its awesome and worth it....PM me for my direct connect...
|
Hey Hun, it's Gracie, I've had T-mobile for 2 yrs. I love it. Not an issue at all with reception, and I drive through MS in the bum F*** Egypt as some people would refer to it :) I hope you went with T-mobile... Call me and tell me if you did LOL
|
I was reading a B-list celeb's blog and she was talkign about how she was offered a free phone but it was T-Mobile and she couldnt be taken seriously using T-mobile.
When I was researching phones I asked a frend about T-moblie. She quickly told me that it had no crediblity. In her words, "What is is a bar? Who changes its name that often? " |

LOL...thats true. :) But I still love T-Mobile nonetheless. Cheap, great reception, great phones, great customer service. The one problem I had was quickly resolved & the phone they replaced my old one w/ was an upgrade. |

I've been thinking about T-Mobile when I get back to the States, because I have it here in Germany (it's originally a German company). |
i have t-mobile... a friend of mine told me that they have a customer loyalty perk... they'll give you $50 per year you have been a customer off a new cell phone.
I really want a new phone - is there any truth to this? |

I was really mad at t-mobile (voicestream) a couple of years ago. My phone got stolen but since it disapeared a night I was bouncing to a lot of different places I thought I just lost it and it would turn up in someone's car. I gave up after a couple of days and reported it. A couple of weeks later my bill shows up with over $70 worth of calls made to Mexico the night my phone was lost and then no further charges after that which suggests they immediately disposed of the phone. I called to ask them about it and they told me that since the calls were made before I reported it lost that I was responsible for the charges. Now, my boyfriends job is to run fraud detection on cell phone databases and t-mobile is their biggest client. According to him, these sudden foreign charges should have triggered an event and been under investigation.
Anyway, I called to close my account with them and only then did they offer to replace my phone, credit me for a month of service, etc. I said no, I'm with Verizon now and I've been pretty happy with them. |
Hey ur friend is right Catherine Zeta-Jones is hot, i personlay have verizon and i belive that its the best, but if i were look for a new company it would more than likly be t-mobile cuz Catherine Zeta-Jones can sale ne thing. O yeah and they get pretty good reviews.:D

My mom seems to be convinced that with our T-Mobile service you can call anyone on the T-Mobile network all the time. We have some family friends who also have T-Mobile and she talks to them all of the time so I would assume it's true, but I haven't checked it out. So if you do have a lot of friends with T-Mobile, it could be a good way to save some of your minutes! (I know Verizon does a similar thing because they advertise it all of the time.)
|
Dont know about T-Mobile, but dont get Verizon Wireless. Some people LOVE VW, but noone I know from the Akron/Cleveland/Ohio area like them at all. We just went through hell with them. They overcharged us, said we were on a completely diff plan than what we were on and charged us like 300 extra 3 months in a row, the lied and changed things on our account, and overcharged us for our phones. Plus they ALWAYS drop calls. This happens to all my friends who use VW too. They stink.....

That's weird, because we've used Verizon for years now and have been generally pleased with them. DH has had next to no problems in 4+ years with them, and the problems I've had in 3+ years with them were probably due to using the "promo" (aka cheapest cell phone available) phone and not a higher quality phone like DH. Currently we're in Central Ohio, but DH travels a lot for work and uses his nationwide.
I've had a few times where I've gone way over minutes but they've always taken care of it for me. We're very pleased with Verizon's Customer Service, but I have heard a few horror stories of accounts not being coded properly and getting massive overcharges. No matter who you go with for a carrier, ASK questions and get items in writing to review BEFORE signing a contract. Make sure you completely understand how many anytime minutes you get, how any 'free nights and weekends' minutes work, how any 'free cell phone company network' promotions work, and what cities are generally covered by your plan. If you use your cell for text messaging, IMing, sending pictures, downloading ringtones, and other fun stuff, make sure you choose a plan that includes these options to avoid painful billing surprises. See the answers in writing, do not just depend on what the salesperson tells you. You are signing a legally binding contract. While I'm on this 'read the contract and understand everything before signing' kick, you may want to only sign a one year contract instead of two. I know Verizon usually charges a small fee for a one year, but it may be worth it instead of being locked into a carrier you hate or is habitually problematic. |

The same thing happened to me too! Its why I switched to T-Mobile! |

However I've been with them for two years and things have been great - no problems as of yet. |
Just be sure to check the coverage map and see if it meets your needs. Verizon has good coverage as does Cingular.
Cingular has GAIT phones that cover nearly the entire United States. If you're staying mostly in the Central/Eastern US, Cingular's GSM plans kick butt and include rollover. I switched from Sprint PCS (Should be Sprint POS) to Cingular and will never look back. |
T-Mobile has been my carrier for two years now and I love them.
Contracts are a year long and depending on your credit you could qualify for a free phone. If it's not the phone you want, the cool flip phones are offered at a discounted price. After my first year they gave me an extra 50 loyalty minutes so now I have 650 minutes in my plan at no extra charge. For a phone upgrade you don't have to resign the contract. As far as plans I think they probably have the cheapest around. |
