Week 1 of the GreekChat.com Weight Loss Challenge

Okay, the challenge begins now! So, let the slendering begin!

Today, I had oatmeal and coffee. I might have some strawberries for snack today. Yummy!

Remember, the challenge runs through September 1st. Good luck!

XOMichelle 06-01-2004 11:01 PM

yea Rollergirl! I lifted today :-)

PS- what do we get if we reach our goals?

Jill1228 06-02-2004 12:11 AM

I did my FIRM tape this morning. I had to kick myself in the butt the night before to make sure I get up (I was finding ways out of it) :o

So tomorrow is winsor pilates (after work)

_Lisa_ 06-02-2004 07:13 AM

This'll be my first day...yesterday was a total flop but for good reasons so I'm starting today. Not too bad! I'm going to work out this evening. I usually run for 20 minutes & then lift weights. w00t.

Lady Pi Phi 06-02-2004 10:34 AM

Well I haven't really been on track.

I mean I had a cookie and some chips for breakfast (I am having a bad day).

I let you know how I do for week 2.

chideltjen 06-02-2004 11:43 AM

I LOST A POUND!

WOOOOOO HOOOOOO! Writing down everything I eat is really helping. It's a pain in the ass... but it controls my eating habits.

I went to the gym and rode a bike for a half an hour. Tonight I am going back for yoga. Good times!

swissmiss04 06-02-2004 12:27 PM

I gave myself a bit of a break over the holiday weekend. Yesterday I ate healthily and I went to the gym, but just did cardio. I ate a good breakfast this morning and did some stretching. I'll probably go do laps or go to the gym again.

blueGBI 06-02-2004 12:39 PM

I started last week and so far I've lost 2.5 lbs. What I've been doing is watching what I eat and walking EVERYWHERE! I've been walking to work which is 2 miles away and over 3 huge hills everyday as well as walking to friends places and the store, places where my roommates would drive.

As for food, I've been eating more green veggies, less bread, oatmeal, meat, and fruit juices. I've also had the red friend so I have been drinking ginger ale to help relieve the cramps. This week I'm going to start on situps to scuplt my stomach area as well as keeping on my walking.

adpialumcsuc 06-03-2004 02:50 PM

Yeah I lost 3 lbs since last week. I have been sitting on a plateau for a while so it is nice to see some movement again.

Lady Pi Phi 06-03-2004 02:54 PM

Well I wighed my self last night (an boy was the traumatic) anyway, I've lost 2 pounds!

chideltjen 06-03-2004 02:57 PM

I think I really screwed something up on custom foods...

I was trying to make up the calorie/carb count for a sugar free vanilla (non fat, grande) latte at Starbucks. Well I used the nutrition facts from a gingerbread latte and took out about 3/4 of the carbs because the syrup is SF. However, for some reason, the protein count is at 40 grams... now I KNOW that ain't right. Oh well. It's still 203 calories.

And I wonder if it was sugar free... stupid Starbucks. Usually that drink does nothing to my blood sugars. Now they are sky high and I feel like ass...

I feel your pain. How many times have gone somewhere and asked for a diet coke and they give me regular and I have to send it back.
I didn't ask for diet because I am on a diet. I asked for it because I am a diabetic and I don't need my sugars to go through the roof.

HAHAHAHAH!!! I'm sorry to laugh, but I'm just so happy I'm not the only one! :)

I've been eating my normal 1 to 1.5 meals a day - I'm not a big eater. My boyfriend and our dog are helping me out. We're going for 20-30 minute walks every night ang then spending another 20-30 mins in the pool. Swimming after my dog is A LOT of excersie - and yes, he really does swim...almost does laps. :)

I'm going to focus more on eating healthy (need to get my 5 fruit and veggies in everyday) and actually working out. I HATE the gym...I think the place is the devil's playground. But, I know that's part of this whole thing so I just have to get off my lazy rear and go.

So far, I'm set to lose 1.5lbs per week for my total of 21lbs. I've lost 1lb so far! WOOT! :D

Good luck everyone!

Rudey 06-03-2004 03:49 PM

I bet a lot of the girls in this thread like NASCAR.

Go to the Starbukcs website, they have all the syrups listed as extras, so you can just add to whatever you want to add to the generic nonfat latte. If you list the coffee by ounce (so define the serving size as 16 oz or whatever), and then you can talior it by size if you have a larger or smaller drink, and Fitday will calculate the calorie totals. I did that, and it's been working well. I also found www.calorieking.com, which has a lot more foods listed than Fitday. So if you are having trouble finding something, you can go there.

As for my progress, I actually started trying to lose weight in the begining of May, and I have lost a full 5 pounds!! I am very happy, since I feel like I am finally making progress.

ETA: Jen, I went on the website, and a nonfat grande latte is 160 calories, and one pump of flavored sugar free syrup is 0 calories. A pump of the normal syrup is 20 calories.

Jill1228 06-04-2004 02:45 PM

Still hacking up lungs :(
But I just finished my FIRM tape. I won't do my first weigh/measure until next Friday

DolphinChicaDDD 06-05-2004 12:58 AM

Hi, my name is Cara, and I'm a dieter!:)

I need to get a scale, seriously. I went the alternative route and am trying my hand at South Beach Diet again (stupid mono ruined my last attempt. hard to be a diet when all you can eat is ice cream and ritas water ice)

Can I still be in the weight loss challenge???

ETA: I'm going to be a late (weight)loser I think....I haven't been cleared for exercise yet, I had hip surgery last week. I am offically envious of Jill and her pilates ::sigh::

Jill1228 06-05-2004 01:42 PM

Going to do my pilates today. It is a short but tough 20 minute tape

DolphinChica, best wishes for a fast recovery!

Ajuhdg-any hospital food is enough to kill ya! :)

blueGBI 06-09-2004 05:58 PM

another update!

I've lost another pound! This past week I've had some not so good foods such as pizza, pokey sticks (pizza dough and cheese with italian spices), soda, ice cream but I've also stuck to my walking everywhere, as well as doing 50 situps when I wake up and at night and jogging for an hour Mondays and Wednesdays. I am 15.5 lbs from meeting my goal.

WCUgirl 06-09-2004 06:02 PM

Okay, the Keebler elves are the devil. I've discovered their fudge shoppe chocolate covered graham cracker cookies. I ate 3/4 of a row today at work (that's like 14 cookies). Ugh!

XOMichelle 06-10-2004 12:18 PM

Arrg... I was doing really well until the last 5 days. I kind of fell off the boat. But that is OK! I have still lost 4 pounds since I started, and I am off to lose another 5 this month. Sometimes you need a little lapse to get you going, right???

chideltjen 06-10-2004 12:40 PM

I fell off the boat a lone time ago. This last weekend I went home and I had about 3 restaurant meals. Granted I didn't have that entire chipotle 1/2 buger at Texas Roadhouse, I ate all the steak fries instead. And a roll... and for lunch... I went to Applebees and had something off their Weight Watchers menu (YAY) but then I also started snacking on my friend's BBQ ribs and fries... and lets not forget the brownie sundae for dessert.

And now I am sick so I haven't been to the gym at all this week. My journals are pretty funny though.

Just a word of advice check out www.bodyforlife.com it gives great tips for working out& losing fat (not necesarily weight). They also have a cookbook so it gives you ideas on what to eat for meals. I've been doing it halfass for the past 1.5 months (started May 1) &have dropped about 8 lbs and 4% body fat (I was at 190 lbs and aprox 20% body fat)and I can tell a huge difference. Plus it's not real hard to do...my problem is that I'm a picky eater so most of the foods it suggests I don't like, but it doesn't tell you not to eat certain foods, just control the amoutns you eat and gives healthy sugestions. The downside is that it does push supplements, but it can be a good thing b/c the Myoplex Lite shake they recommend has 180 calories and it filled me up for almost 4 hours, and I can eat.

I've lost 12 lbs in 4 weeks!...I'm doing atkins (I know, I know...criticize, but it's working thus far) and doing cardio and lifting everyday. I'm so excited because I'm working off the freshman 15+ (+ lots....) this past year at college. :)

blueGBI--omg, pokey stix are the devil! They are probably a good majority of my freshman weight...the taste soo good and even better as drunk food. Tuesday nites on campus, pokey sticks were buy one get one free....I definitely know how hard it is to pass those up! :D

ztabchbum 06-11-2004 09:11 AM

I lost 7 pounds so far!!!!!!!

I also made my journal public and the link is in my sig. :D

sairose 06-11-2004 06:24 PM

Wellll, I got a tiny bit lazy the last few weeks. But I am back on track. I have lost about 4 pounds since I began last month, but now that I'm better on track it'll be better.

For those of you who have trouble with cravings (and who doesn't?), here is my favorite trick. Depending on your diet plan you should safely lose 1 or 2 pounds per week (sometimes more at first). Next time you're trying to talk yourself out of eating something fatty, tell yourself, "if I stay on track, one week from now I will be at least one pound lighter than I am right now." It helps. :)

I've started running again. But I'm out of shape. :( Damn. Last summer I was running 3 miles a day. But the important thing is, I'm running/walking (I alternate every few minutes) on a regular basis, and so I feel healthier.

I ate well today! I had a cup of fat free yogurt with some lowfat granola for breakfast; a salad with lettuce, grape tomatoes, carrots, grilled chicken, a few croutons, and low calorie dressing; for a snack I ate a banana; and for dinner I had a can of tuna, plain pasta (about a cup), spinach, and corn. I feel so much better when I eat well! :)

lifesaver 06-15-2004 04:53 AM

I've lost 6 lbs in the last 2 weeks and got my first, "youve lost weight, you look good!" today.

I'm and now waiting for the "have you been working out?"

AOIIsilver 06-15-2004 06:40 AM

I am doing terribly. I actually gained a pound!

The ability to get some really good sex. ;)

AWJDZ 06-15-2004 10:08 AM

ok...I'm going to join in the fun! (if thats what its called)

Since I have had a blood clot in my leg, going to the gym has been a no-no. I went back yesterday...30 min. on the eleptical and 3 reps of 15 in the circuit training room. My ideal workout would be to go in the mornings so I have the rest of the day free, but my bed feels soo good at 7:30 AM! I have been lunching on Slim Fast low-carb bars, they are actually really tasty. Nothing to drink but water (and the 2 beers I had last night)

chideltjen 06-15-2004 11:19 AM

Funny story... I didn't work out at ALL last week because I was sick. I went to the gym last night to weigh myself... I lost another pound. I back down to 126. YAY!

blueGBI 06-15-2004 12:58 PM

I've lost another pound!

I'm still sticking to the lots of walking and running exercise plan with situps on the side and I'm still eating moderately. However, I plan to start some weight training soon so I dont get bored and to jazz up my weight loss.

docetboy 06-15-2004 12:58 PM

Y'all are going about this the wrong way! The best way to lose weight is to join the military...I lost 15lbs in 6 weeks while eating unhealthy stuff in the dining facility....

haha, guess that's one way to do it.

if anyone wants...i found a really good cardio plan in one of my fitness magazines. if you'd like a way to vary your workouts let me know and I'll PM you with it/post it.

Jill1228 06-15-2004 04:54 PM

Didn't work out much last week due to exhaustion, so down a pound. Not complaining though. Still working on getting motivated to work out.

Yesterday I did about 1/2 of the Stability ball for dummies tape
Today I did about 15 minutes or so of weight training on the stability ball

Tomorrow a short FIRM tape and Winsor Pilates (it is my day off from work)

sairose 06-15-2004 04:59 PM

I'm doing okay. I have eaten really well today! And I had a 30 minute run last night plus crunches and other stomach work.

I'm not losing pounds, but I know I'm losing inches cause my pants fit better. I think I'm gaining more muscle...fine with me! I like being buff! :D

sairose 06-15-2004 05:01 PM

Fitness advice, please!!!

Okay....I go running/speed walking regularly but cannot get to the fitness center easily (living at home for the summer, and no gym around here). So, I haven't done any strength training cause I don't have access. :(

Anyone know some good excersizes to trim down my upper arms, particularly triceps? And any other good strength training excersizes would be great (ones not involving weight machines).

Thanks!

AWJDZ 06-15-2004 06:30 PM

Just back from the gym...30 on the elept. and circuit training  Man, I feel like obligated to go this week after I didn't last week...now if my friends wouldn't keep letting me down and get back into going with me. My problem is that I work in a bakery and we can snack all we want there...yum chocolate cheesecake and cheese rounds! Going to go in the morning tomorrow since I have to teach for the Red Cross tomorrow night! Someone give me a wake-up call! :p
