Julia Roberts Pregnant with Twins

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp..._julia_roberts

People magazine reported Monday night that Roberts' spokeswoman, Marcy Engelman, said the "Pretty Woman" star was due to give birth to twins early next year.

US Weekly said Roberts, 36, has been pregnant for about nine weeks with twins. Star magazine, citing unidentified sources, said the twins were a boy and a girl.

ISUKappa 06-01-2004 10:29 AM

Wow. Well, good for her.

Interesting that they know this already. Either she had selective IVF or they did chromosomal testing because it's not like you can look between their legs and tell already. And I'm actually surprised she a. is telling people so early and b. is open with the due date unless this is another celebrity pg decoy and she's really more like 12-14 weeks along.

LeslieAGD 06-01-2004 11:34 AM

Congratulations to Julia and Danny!

I was thinking the SAME thing! I hope everything goes well - its hard carrying twins, especially this early on!

honeychile 06-01-2004 11:50 AM

Let's hope they can come up with better names than "Apple"!!!!

Sister Havana 06-01-2004 11:56 AM

Congratulations to her!

I am surprised that she knows already what they are too.

Rudey 06-01-2004 12:17 PM

Does that mean she'll stop doing stupid movies with Hugh Grant because she'll be really busy?

I thought it was strange she knew the genders already, too. How early can you have an amnio?

Peaches-n-Cream 06-01-2004 12:46 PM

Star Magazine isn't exactly a reliable source of information so they probably are guessing about the genders.

We should suggest some names so they can avoid a name like Apple. (The horror! The horror!) :p

cutiepatootie 06-01-2004 01:12 PM

Oh m y goodness....how great is this!:)

But....
you don't find out until the 5th month the gender so how did she find out at nine weeks?

DZHBrown 06-01-2004 01:15 PM

I just read that her publicist would only confirm that she was expecting twins. She did not mention the genders, so that may just be a rumor...

These were my thoughts as well, especially when they exposed sex at such an early stage.

True, true. I thought of that after I had posted!

although it's been better under the new editors.

Congratulations to Julia Roberts!!

Well I believe the People magazine post that she is pregnant because they are a slightly more reputable source. As for the sex of the twins, coming from Star, I DOUBT that it is true. Plus, the sex organs don't develop until the second trimester, so unless she is further along than they are letting on it seems kind of impossible that they would know the sex already.

I also completely agree with the name thing, chose something other than Apple. :)

Lady Pi Phi 06-01-2004 04:37 PM

Hopefully she won't name her child or children after any fruits or vegetables.

You can tell the instant the sperm meets the egg which sex it's going to be, hence the big brou ha ha about selective IVF and people chosing the sex of their children. I highly doubt they would know the sex either right now (or at least be reporting it), but there are ways to tell this early on in a pregnancy.

And I still can't believe they're telling everyone at 9 weeks. There are too many things that could happen this early on, especially with twins. Hell, when I get pg, Mr. ISUKappa and I are definitely not alerting the national media until well after 12 weeks! ;)

sororitygirl2 06-01-2004 08:48 PM

Yeah, it is really, really early to be telling people. I am sure she didn't mean to tell though... probably the word just got out, thanks to the a-hole paparazzi types and they just felt like they had to confirm it.

Anyway, hopefully all goes well. I can't imagine what it would be like to have to suffer through a miscarriage with America watching.

dakareng 06-01-2004 11:26 PM

An amnio can't be done until ~16-18 weeks (and then takes at least a week for the cultures to grow enough to do a chromosome count) . CVS (chorionic villi sampling) is done at ~8 weeks and is a much more rapid form of testing (but I'm not sure it's that instantaneous). On the other hand, she has enough $$$ to do the most exotic forms of reproductive technology so if they're releasing that it's boy/girl, then it's likely that she had selective IVF and knew the sex of the zygotes being implanted... and if both "took", voila, one of each... unless, of course, one of the implanted eggs didn't implant and she really has identical twins (there's a higher risk of an IVF egg splitting into twins-- in the NICU, we call it the revenge of Mother Nature). Can't tell that this soon what she really has unless she's further along than she's reporting....

True, but most people, who don't have Julia Roberts kind of money, have to wait until the sex organs are formed before they can discover the sex of their child which doesn't occur until the 2nd trimester, that was my point.

I'm pretty sure I heard on Entertainment Tonight (as I was walking to the other room) that a picture was snapped of her on the beach and I guess she was already starting to show, so rather than having the rumors begin and they confirm them after a few weeks, they decided to confirm them right away.

I may be wrong, though....

there's also been rumors and reports swirling for quite some time now that they were trying to get pregnant and that she was already pregnant. that could have been a deciding factor and confiming the pregnancy as well.

And all my point was that there are ways to tell the sex this early on in a pregnancy. Not whether people do them or can afford them but that they exist. :)

Our local pop radio station has a segment twice a morning where they dish all the hollywood gossip and they were talking about Julia Roberts' pregnancy this morning. I could have sworn they said something about IVF but I was also half asleep at the time and I have a habit of turning what I hear on the radio into what I'm dreaming.

I've heard those same reports about her wanting/trying to get pregnant. So it is probably prudent they come out and verify the rumors now. You start to show pretty early when you're carrying twins.

OK, Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus Walter just sucks! Those poor kids... APPLE IS A BETTER NAME! I know Walter and Patricia are Julia's deceased parents' names. But, their whole names just sound like some 90 year-old married couple.

Yuck, Julia. I expected classier/better (IMO) names!

Wash't Phinnaeus the full name of a character from the novel "A Separate Peace"?

Ok I know she doesn't want them to have matching names and stuff but PHINNAEUS?!? I hope she plans on homeschooing that boy. :(

Unregistered- 11-29-2004 07:26 AM

Putting her names of choice aside, I'm glad to finally read about good things happening to good people.

With her success in Hollywood people have tried for years to find something wrong with that woman, but you know what? She's one of those you can't help but respect because she's a good person and a sweetheart.

Congratulations to Julia and Danny. Welcome to the world, twins!

KillarneyRose 11-29-2004 10:33 AM

I rather like Phinnaeus, actually :) I suppose he could go by "Fin", which sounds pretty cool.

AlphaGamDiva 11-29-2004 03:17 PM

i find myself rolling my eyes over JR these days. yeah, america's little sweetheart had twins and is apparently in this great marriage, but wasn't this guy married to someone else when she came along? i tend to go on the she's way over-rated way of thinking, anyway, b/c she's the same in all her movies (yes, even erin brok) and i prefer renee zellwegger anyday. but maybe that's just me.

i heard something this morning about how the names could be covers.....just to give them a little time to enjoy some privacy before coming out with their real names. i don't see WHY they would do that, but who knows. hazel is pretty rank, but i enjoy phinnaeus. :)

glad the babies are healthy, though, for being born a month early.

See I feel the opposite. Hazel, while being very old fashioned, is still a nice name. Phinnaeus is just an awful name. That kid is going to take a lot of teasing over his name if he goes by that instead of a nickname.

Peaches-n-Cream 11-29-2004 04:12 PM

I think that children of celebrities should attend school together. Hazel, Phinnaeus, and Apple might wind up having the most normal names. I like Phinn/Finn as a nickname.

Anyway, I don't think that those names are too bad. I have known people with unusual names: Tinkerbell, Cinnamon, Tashaka, Octavia. I was also surrounded by a multitude of Jennifers, Stephanies, Amys, and Lisas. I'm not sure which is better, to give a unique name or an extremely popular name. Plus my name is unique and unusual and I like it. :)

Sister Havana 11-29-2004 09:00 PM

With the babies being born this early, and with her knowing that they were going to be a boy and a girl when she announced her pregnancy...I am thinking that she was actually further along in the pregnancy than she said when she announced it, and the January due date was given so the paparazzi wouldn't be staking out the hospitals nearby when she was really due.

I am glad everyone is doing well. :)

I went to high school with a woman whose name is Twinkle. Her last name was Star. Sure hope she did not marry someone who has the last name Bright--Twinkle Star Bright

Given some time, I wouldn't be surprised if they disguise their names the old-fashioned way... H. Patricia Moder and P. Walter Moder. Sure is a hell of a lot nicer-sounding than Apple! :D

Julia Roberts expecting 3rd child

I have to give her and Danny Props. Hazel and Finn are two, and the baby's due next summer. She's definitely gonna have her hands full.

But yay for them!
