Jessica Simpson as Daisy Duke

OH LORD!!!!!

Might as well give Nick a job and cast him as Bo Duke!!!

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...essica_simpson

NEW YORK - Jessica Simpson (news) says she's close to slipping into a pair of Daisy Dukes. The singer and reality TV star told The Associated Press she's in the lead to star as Daisy Duke in a movie version of "The Dukes of Hazzard," which is scheduled to come out sometime next year.

Catherine Bach (news) played the sexy Duke cousin, known for wearing denim micro-shorts, in the TV series that ran from 1979-85. Britney Spears (news) had been among the stars reportedly vying for the movie role, but Simpson, who's starting a summer tour next month, says she's the first choice.

"That's looking very, very good and that will happen after my tour. As of right now, I'm (in) the No. 1 slot for Daisy, so hopefully nothing changes," she said Wednesday.

The1calledTKE 05-28-2004 08:37 AM

Lol she need to smarten herself up if she is going to play Daisy. I had no idea that are making a Dukes of Hazard movie. Thats awesome! I had just bought the original first season of Dukes yesterday.

AOIIsilver 05-28-2004 08:59 AM

There actually was a reunion movie just after Uncle Jessie died in RL. Jessica's acting persona will have to "smarten-up"...at least over those Buffalo Pizza commericals! In the reunion movie, Daisy came riding into town on a motocycle with a Duke jakect because she had gotten a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Duke!

I heard originally Britney Spears was supposed to be playing this part. What happened to that?

DZHBrown 05-28-2004 09:08 AM

Bo and Luke Duke are supposedly being played by Ashton Kutcher and Paul Walker.

All I've read is that she was the only name dropped from the proposed cast. Jessica Biel and Mandy Moore were also considered.

The article said she was in the lead to star. I don't think she's officially received the part yet. Britney may still be in the running.

WCUgirl 05-28-2004 09:17 AM

See, after I took the time to actually click on the link and read the article, I see that Britney is mentioned in the 2nd paragraph, and that would have answered my question.

Thanks! Just ignore me! :o

Munchkin03 05-28-2004 11:01 AM

I think this is hilarious!

CrimsonTide4 05-28-2004 01:14 PM

Have you all seen her newest endorsement -- Icebreakers' Liquid Ice mints? She is confused as to how it can be both liquid and ice.

James 05-28-2004 09:58 PM

Uhm, I haven't seen it since I was a kid, but are they masculine enough for the roles?

Shouldn't you know, casting directors or directors themselves, you know actually cast people who can act. And when I say act, I don't mean act like a dumb blonde ditz (that gives all blondes a bad name).

Could they at least go for Mandy Moore who has like four movies under her belt and well she can act (IMPO). Hell critics don't pounce on Mandy b/c she's not an airhead.

As for Britney, her one movie I think tanked at the box office.

I have to say, what is the world coming too if they cast Jessica Simpson in a movie?

FYI: Jessica's ABC TV show that was in development where she would play a character just as airheady (made up word :) ) as her, did not get picked up for next season.

twhrider13 05-29-2004 02:04 PM

Even though I REALLY don't see Jessica Simpson being able to pull off this role, the fact that Paul Walker is playing Luke is enough to make it worth taking the time to watch for me! (Ashton Kutcher on the other hand... ) I really loved the Dukes of Hazzard when I was a kid, so I'd probably have to see it anyway, no matter who was playing in it.

The1calledTKE 06-04-2004 07:32 PM

The first season of the dukes of hazard rocks! I am glad they finnaly put it out on dvd, I had forgot most the original plots since I only saw them in repeats when I was like 6. The first season was in 79.

That's the year my brother was born so we most likely saw repeats as well. I'll have to look for it and send it to him as a just because present.

AOII*Azra-elle 06-06-2004 01:13 AM

I'd like to see Jessica as Daisy...Jessica Biel that is...

I had heard rumors about it being in the making, but I am curious as to who is going to play the characters...

Jessica...stupid stupid stupid..has anyone seen the commercials for the new season of the newlyweds...they are hilarious..playing off her dumbness :D

GeoffZ 09-14-2004 11:48 AM

It's official now:

The1calledTKE 09-14-2004 03:58 PM

Hmm they must be making Daisy a dumb person now.

jess_pom 08-05-2005 12:35 PM

Has anyone seen the new Dukes of Hazzard? I hear Jessica was practically cut out of the movie. Is it worth it?

Honeykiss1974 08-05-2005 12:54 PM

I heard some reveiws and most of them said they were UN-IM-PREESSED on Jess's acting and that she was basically there for eye candy.

AznSAE 08-05-2005 03:37 PM

actually i heard differently. they said she was great in the movie but was not in it enough.

jess_pom 08-07-2005 09:40 AM

I saw the movie last night and it was actually good. It's definitely not an Oscar contender but it was funny and not a bad remake. It was better than Starsky & Hutch. But I didn't go in with ideasof grandure. Jessica was pretty good in it, you can tell she was just there for the eye candy, but she was in it more than Willie Nelson. They probably could have done more with her character development but she wasn't bad. The only complaint the other people had was that Roscoe sucked. But I wasn't an avid Dukes TV fan so I could enjoy the show without constantly comparing the two. Overall it was a good movie.

ASUADPi 08-07-2005 10:28 AM

Speaking of Jessica as Daisy did anyone read in In Touch what Reese Witherspoon said about her?

Reese was basically saying that she doesn't want her daughter to grow up thinking Jessica is supposed to be a "role model" because Jessica chooses to act like an idiot. She went on to say that her mom and grandmother didn't work hard on women's rights and whatnot so Jessica could truly act like a "dumb blonde".

I thought it was funny because I totally agree with Reese. Jessica acts like a dumb blonde and as a blonde myself it is truly disheartning. What's worse is that she thinks its "cute" to act this way. Which makes me think more that she's an idiot.

(I also personally think she and her dad are a bit delusional when they believe that she will be able to command 20 million a movie. Hello!!! She is NO WHERE the same caliber as Julia Roberts or any of the other women who can command that much).

I personally have no desire to see the movie in the first place. I'm not going to waste 9 bucks to see the two men act like morons and Jessica act like a dumb blonde who uses her body to get what she wants.

That was in Marie Claire this month. I loved it. I love Reese Witherspoon.

I've heard nothing but negative reviews of the movie.

Xylochick216 08-07-2005 11:02 AM

People gave it half a star and said Jessica's acting was comparable to Britney and Mariah. I refuse to see this movie... it just doesn't look good at all to me.

ASUADPi 08-07-2005 11:39 AM

Yeah she said it in Marie Claire but In Touch quoted her interview.

I think the problem is is that all these singers somehow "assume" that they will be good actors. Just because you can sing doesn't mean you can act.

Off the top of my head, J. Lo is the only one I can think of that is singing and acting but she was an actress before a singer and I personally don't think she's that great of a singer in the first place.

ZTABullwinkle 08-07-2005 12:19 PM

I saw the movie and really liked it. The thing about Jessica Simpson that bugged me the most was her accent. She over-exaggerated the accent. It seemed like she was trying to hide her Texas accent, and tried to hard.

I think Sean William Scott did a great job. If Johnny Knoxville played that part it would have sucked. Willie Nelson is hardly in there, and all he seems to do is tell jokes.

I liked Reese's article. But it was also showing Paris Hilton as playing off as being dumb.

I want to see the movie in a way. I don't hate Jessica, but I don't love her either.

DeltAlum 08-08-2005 01:07 AM

I think Homer and Marge should be very proud of Jessica.

G8Ralphaxi 08-09-2005 12:24 AM

I saw the movie this weekend, and I have to say that I think a lot of the reviews were unfairly harsh.

Yes, it is "dumb humor," but you know what, I don't always need to be intellectually enlightened every time I go to the movies. Sometimes it's nice just to be entertained.

You are lying to yourself if you can't admit that car chases and watching stuff blow up is fun. ;) Without giving anything away, let me just say that Johnny Knoxville's previous job experience served him well here.

I also thought that the movie did a great job dealing with the "politically incorrect" aspects...i.e., the big Confederate flag on a car named "General Lee." They couldn't really change any of that, but they had fun with the clash with modern culture.

Bottom line, this film isn't going to win any Oscars. You will not learn a darn thing watching this movie. But it is very very funny, and my job is as depressing as hell lately, so that's enough for me.

Another reason why I love Reese Witherspoon.

I loved these in particular:

"I hated this movie. It represents everything that’s wrong with the studio system." - Richard "Movie Thang" Roeper

"The Dukes of Hazzard is the latest evidence that, for Hollywood studios at least, there can never be too much of a mediocre thing." -- A.O. Scott, NEW YORK TIMES

"A movie about absolutely nothing (eat your heart out, Seinfeld), based on a show made when your target audience wasn't even born yet. And they say Hollywood is running out of ideas."- Chris Vognar, DALLAS MORNING NEWS

"Heck, suck the exhaust fumes from a 1969 orange Dodge Charger. But whatever you do, no matter how big a fan you were of the show, do yourself a favor by skipping the movie." - Phil Villarreal, ARIZONA DAILY STAR

You know, I really dont see what the big freakin deal is about Jessica Simpson. She's DEFINITELY not a role model.

When I was 14 (about 10 years ago) I went to a summer church camp, and Jessica was one of the nightly entertainments (they had a different christian band/performer each night) and she was all about how she was so into God, and waiting for marriage to have sex and blah blah blah:rolleyes: Nobody really knew who she was back then. Then she turns to the secular world (hello money!) and turns into a total tramp. Daisy Duke? Dumb Blonde? Newly Weds? Wait till Marriage and oops I may be getting divorced? I'm not impressed with her, she's right up there on the skank chart with britney and christina if you ask me.
