Songs/Chants???
Hey girls.... i was just wondering, and i know it's hard to do something like this online... but i am SO tired of the songs our chapter sings so i'm looking to hear what other chapters have come up with.... hope to hear some good stuff!

Hey Girls! I personally think my chapter's chants are outdated and kinda dumb, so if you come up with some good ones please let me know. Also, what kind of songs are you talking about? We are very much lacking in this area because no one teaches the songs and we don't even know all the songs for ritual (pretty pathetic, huh?). Please pass along any songs too. This would be greatly appreciated.

Somehow I ended up with the 1999 Convention song book, so if you girls don't have one of those floating around in your chapter, let me know. Also, have you heard "the Alpha Bunch" song? Anyhoo, I'll check in my folders for some fun songs.

I'm pretty sure that we don't have one of those songbooks in our chapter. What kind of stuff is in it. Also never heard of "the Alpha Bunch" song. Any song help would be greatly appreciated by myself and my chapter.

Songs in the Convention book are ones for ceremonies, and a few of them are in the Bonds, but the ones that you might not have are: Garden of Old Alpha Xi, Now We Are Sisters Together, The Thought in the Heart of the Rose, Tonight Will Never Come Again, Of Thee I Cherish, The Rose of Alpha Xi (different song than "I love the rose of Alpha Xi"), The Seasons, and Shades of Gold and Double Blue (a chapter favorite).
And then there are the less appropriate ones that our chapter president learned at the convention... |

Hey....
Well I can tell you a few songs that we do, I'll just list the names and if you want to know lyrics or anything let me know. Well we do the Rose (tune of Bette Midler's Rose--but AxiD lyrics), Rose Round, Battle Cry, Linger, Remember Alpha Xi Delta, A sisterhood of women, we're all good sisters, Pass it on....etc. Oh yeah and I wrote an AxiD song for the graduating seniors...I hope that answered your question...what do you do? We do a chant to the tune of the Oscar-Meyer weiner song----I don't know if everyone does this song, but ti's really cute and a favorite among potential members. Let me know if you want the lyrics.:D

Need new door chants!
Hi, ladies!
My chapter is looking for some new door chants to use for formal fall recruitment next autumn. I personally really liked all of the ones that we did this year, but they just aren't that memorable to the new members. They can still remember songs from other houses, but none from Alpha Xi... Does anyone have any easy to learn door chants that might work for us?? I'd be REALLY grateful, and I know that our VP of Recruitment would be too. |

We have a cheer we learned from West Georgia. It's really fast and the faster you can say it the better. It goes:

Yes, it's true. It's sort of the pledge class gift to the initiated members. There are a ton of songs to choose from, so we always have a variety. What we lack in chants we make up for in songs. It makes singing those songs even more memorable because they mean something to all of us. Whenever I hear the song "At the Beginning" from the Anastasia soundtrack, I kind of get all weepy b/c that's my pledge class song! Some songs we've used in the past, and put AXiD lyrics to, are: -The Rose -Save the Best for Last by Vanessa Williams -Without You by the Dixie Chicks -You'll be in My Heart from the Tarzan soundtrack -Beautiful in My Eyes by Elton John Also, it's a great way for your pledge class to leave their mark on the chapter! |
Chants... I've got TONS!
With our chapter consisting of a LOT of former cheerleaders we have adapted old chants using AXiD words...
I don't know which all everyone has But some of ours if anyone is interested... Who's the best sorority on Campus? Oscar Myers Coca-cola..... Chi O's on our campus do a whole day with this theme. Mickey Mouse I am an Alpha I am a Xi With an A.. With an A with an A-L-P A-Z-A-Z-A-Z-A-Z-A-Z-A-Z-A-Z Alpha Xi Delta is our Cry ... With hand clap The Boogie Woogie.... how funny, i have heard this chant before, but the version i have heard is a little different at the end i think. my question is, do you sing it or is it spoken? they way i have heard it is sung. i get so far with the singing on yours, but it all falls apart when i get to the part where you spell out a-l-p-h-a. oh well, anyway, just wondering because i really like it, but my chaper does not do it and i do not know how to end the version i know. We do not have very many chants, as we realized this year at greek week:) the one we do the most often is really simple: a-l-p-h-a, x-i-d-e-l-t-a alpha xi, alpha xi delta yeah i know really not very original, but when you repeat it and get faster and louder each time it is very effective.:D just for clarification, say the a-l slower than the p-h-a, take a pause, and then spell the rest about the same speed as the p-h-a another is, a, l-p, h-a-x-i-d, e-l-t-a, oh yes, cause we are the best! -repeated over and over again with increasing volumne. |
We say the chant. in the begining we start speaking it at a normal volume and speed and then it gets faster and louder towards the end.

Okay, here are a couple that I think haven't been mentioned (though it's hard to say when we can't always say "To the Tune of ..."). I think they're in some of the song books.
- Alpha Xi, Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Alpha Xi, Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Alpha Xi will always be The very best sorority Alpha, Alpha Xi DELTA!! (If any of you know "Alpha Xis Never Drink", it's the same tune; I won't print the words to that here because it's CERTAINLY not a recruitment song) - My very favorite door song/chant is an army Cadence, which is shouted out by one or two sisters, and repeated by the chapter as follows (all VERY loudly): I don't know but I been told (the chapter repeats) Alpha Xi Delt's got a lot of soul (repeat) The Quill and the Rose and the Teddy Bear (repeat) Are Alpha Xi things we like to share (repeat) Who's the best sorority? (repeat) Everyone knows it's Alpha Xi (repeat) Sound off! (One, Two!) A LITTLE BIT LOUDER! (Three, Four!) Sound off! (One, Two, Three, Four, One, Two ... THREE FOUR!) There is a CD and I know our Song Leader has a copy of it. The only thing is that it's majorly outdated. The songs sound really high and hard to sing.

New CD -- Don't despair!
Our last National Songleader did a fantastic job of creating a new CD, with the songs re-written to drop them down to present-day singable levels. There's also a songbook to go with it. Just contact HQ ((317) 872-3500 -- ask for Amy Reinhardt) and they'll ship it off to you!! (Do be sure your chapter's ready and able to pay for it -- although it can't be that much!)

It's a pretty good song, and there are some other good sorority songs on there for other sororities, so tell your friends! |
We did one for rush...to the tune of "Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog" (by 3 Dog Night). I really liked it, but it could get annoying:
Jooooooooooooooy to the world Alllllllllllllll the boys and girls Joy to the Rushees of AZD Joy to my sisters and me da da da da da da da Jooooooooy to the world.... etc. We would usually do that three or four times, then move on to the next song. We also did Green Day's "Time of Your Life" but replaced a few words. I'm not sure if I can remember all of it: Another day of rush, a decision to be made, We'll take you by the hand, direct you where to go So make the best of this test and don't ask why It's not a question but a lesson learned in time It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right Alpha Xi will be the time of your life. In fact, we have formal recruitment at the beginning of the spring semester and don't even have our entrance and exit songs chosen. Please help!
