The hobby thread

For me, usually summer is the time when I spend the most time (and sometimes money!) working on my hobbies.

I am currently working on my scrapbook for the first 2 yrs of college (from my other school) and working on an ADPi cross stitch design to frame!

What's your favorite hobby? How do your organize all your craft related stuff?

WLFEO 05-26-2004 07:09 PM

I love to scrapbook also, T*P! Also I am really into quilting. BUT, I don't really have the room to spread anything out- it has to go on the kitchen table which is kind of a bummer when it comes time to eat. I'd love to have a house big enough to have a hobby room.

honeychile 05-26-2004 07:53 PM

I've made a couple scrapbooks, and had a lot of fun doing them - I just wish I had the time to do more!

I also do needlework, and have made stuffed animals out of old, ragged quilts. I found an incomplete quilt at an estate sale, and one of these days, I plan to finish it for a wall hanging - my dream is to have an old fashioned guest room (candlewick bedspread, wall hangings, braided rugs, etc). We could say that I'm just a crafty kinda girl! hee, hee!

And of course, there's genealogy... :)

Yes, I have my own business. About 3 summers ago, I did 3 weddings, but then life happened and I haven't been able to book that many events. However, I am still working on pursuing that as a full time career, once I finish my degree.

I used to work for a stained glass window company. My title was "Stained Glass Artist", and yes, I really did build the windows----like ones you see in churches and stuff. I loved that job. When I have my own house (one day), I want to have a room to be my studio and start building windows again.

honeychile 08-09-2004 10:49 PM

Emlee, that sounds fascinating!! Ever since I saw the Clasped Hands stained glass windows in Macon, I've known exactly where I'd like to see them!

Also: HELP!! This Pi/Alum received a simply gorgeous counted cross stitch kit for Christmas, but can't differentiate the four shades of white! Is there anyone who would be willing to take that on, and separate them for me?

skerbow 08-09-2004 10:56 PM

Honey, i'd love to help however I can. :) My MIL and SIL are big Cross stitchers :)

ASUADPi 08-10-2004 02:40 PM

Wow

I too feel like a hobby underachiever. :)

Right now my main hobby is reading. I am currently on a Harry Potter fix right now. I am reading The Goblet of Fire (only about on page 350 too. LOL)

ADPiShannan 08-10-2004 03:06 PM

Since I took the summer off, I have gotten to do alot of my hobbies.

I wish I could cross stitch. I tried sooo hard with both my little diamond pillows, but had to ask another sister to help me finish it. I dont have patience for it.

Right now my hobbies include:

Reading
Hiking
Gardening
Pottery, I make my own. My mom has a little back house in our backyard and we have kilns and fire them and glaze them. Then we'll paint them up in her craft room in the house.

I too do stain glass making. When I did a internship for Interior Design in college I worked at a Kitchen and Bath design center and the one lady made them so I started to help her, got into it, then went back to college and took 4 classes on it so now I make them whenever I can. We didnt do any churches, but we built a lot for houses people love them around here. Now I make them this summer for my family and friends. Im working on one now with Violets all over it for my own place.

I also have a passion because of my major, I LOVE to restore houses. I am currently taking out the carpet in our living room and restoring the hardwood floor to its original. I just helped my cousin build a sunroom onto his house and then we plastered it and added skylights and added the windows ourselves, now this weekend I am going home to help him paint it, add tiles, baseboards, and cornice boards. I love to do this. I hope to buy a old old old house that can all be restored to its original and then spent time redoing each room.

EXiADPi 08-10-2004 03:54 PM

I'm not real crafty but I can paint and draw if I need to. My mom got me a current boyfriend frame and since I haven't had one of those since i was 14 (I am now 22 last week) I put baseball players I like in there and I usually draw them. My mom has a picture of my favorite player ona camera she has not developed yet.

This summer has consisted of watching the Diamondbacks and attending weddings so I guess wedding planning would be a hobby for me cuz it is fun, I know when stuff should be done, and i'm not paying for it.

If my friend's dad does do the NASCAR room in the new house I will be in charge of painting the numbers just like they are on the cars and making the NASCAR motorsports logo and a Dale Earnhardt memorial thing. Oh I have also been helping children get ready for kindergarten. My friend's sister knows all of the colors by NASCAR driver (Tony Stewart drives the orange car). I REALLY can't wait for school to start on August 30, I want to become edumicated on how to edumicate students in grades 7-12.

Lots of 'em. Reading YA novels (and occasional nonfiction), reading comics (generally X-Men and a few from DC's Vertigo line), playing D&D with friends, gardening, and attempting to exercise. :) Oh, and helping my husband create our vacation binders from our trip to Germany last year. Between us and my parents, it's five binders and around 1000 photos.

KellyB369 08-10-2004 04:36 PM

I love to scrapbook too! I do it whenever I have a chance, but it's hard because I have to spread everything out and the coffee table in our great room is about the only place I can do that. I love shopping for the materials too but I only do that every so often because it's so expensive. Right now I'm working on finishing up a scrapbook of sophmore year through senior year of college. When that's complete I think I'll start a new book for the past year and future things.

adpialumcsuc 08-10-2004 04:50 PM

I am not extremely crafty and wish I was more crafty. I do however have a hobby of doing stained glass. Right now I am working on a 5X3 Ft stained glass for my bedroom door. It is a bear. Pretty cool so far but is very hard

adpialumcsuc 08-10-2004 05:07 PM

I saw it in my pastor's office, only he had it matted in blues. It really is beautiful - and I've always loved "Amazing Grace"!
