Weird things you are scared of..

Okay, so we all have things we are scared of(like the dark, being alone, scary movies, etc) but I am sure people have some weird things they are really scared of, so I am putting this thread out there. Some weird things are I scared of are

1. When someone pops the cork out of champagne--I ALWAYS have to leave the room because I freak it will somehow hit me

2. Heights for other people--I am okay with being up high myself but when I see other people up really high, it freaks me out!

Anyone else have any weird things that scare them?

AOII*Azra-elle 05-26-2004 12:49 PM

Basketballs. Though, not all the time. One bounced off my head during one of the guy teams practices in high school. I'm always scared that will happen again and knock me out. *blah*

Jellyfish. Watch Finding Nemo, enough said.

SSS1365 05-26-2004 01:40 PM

Birds flying over my head. I got pooped on when I was on a 3rd grade field trip and got made fun of. Scarred me for life, man.

Senusret I 05-26-2004 02:15 PM

Birds have pooped on me at least twice in my life. I'm not a-scared of them, though.

I HATE silverfish.....ick ick ick.

ADqtPiMel 05-26-2004 02:35 PM

I'm terrified of poodles. Not the little ones, but the big freaky ones. I forget what they are called.

WORD. They are freaky/creepy becasue they are all big and have that big ass beak. Plus they have that creepo look on their faces.

Read the other thread, but I am freaked out by clowns, and tornadoes.

And they don't walk, they STRUT.

Ginger 05-26-2004 03:10 PM

Monkeys. I don't know why, but they really freak me out.

Dionysus 05-26-2004 03:18 PM

People or myself throwing up. It's my number one fear. Thank GOD I have a strong stomach so far, despite that I get nauseous quite often.

Any loud and sudden noise (lightning striking, balloons popping, buses backfiring, etc)

High speed (Rollarcoasters, going over 70 mph in car, etc)

Closed spaces

Intense emotion

chideltjen 05-26-2004 03:21 PM

Let's see...

Putting my head underwater
Heights... but not the "Hi, I'm in an Airballoon or on a skyscraper" heights. More like, "OMG, I am standing on a stool or chair!! "
Low-flying birds, especially when I am driving.
And of course, birds flying overhead.
And weird fear: I'm a diabetic and I am scarred of needles/blood. I can give shots and stuff just fine, but if I have to watch blood, medical shows, needles etc, I freak out. Can't watch.

KellyB369 05-26-2004 04:17 PM

On the Finding Nemo note, I am scared of the ocean but not the shallow part near the beach; the deep parts. I don't like snorkeling, scuba diviving and the part in Finding Nemo where they are in the dark water with the fish with the light freaked me out.

GeekyPenguin 05-26-2004 04:42 PM

Cardboard.

I know.

DolphinChicaDDD 05-26-2004 04:51 PM

Robots (the kind that act like humans, see link below, cause i don't know how to post images)

Scary robot

We had one of those during our Greek Fair. I was over talking to the Panhel prez(who happens to be a Tri Sigma) and the robot comes over and starts talking to me. I scream, dive under their table, knock over like 15 crafty things, and start hiding behind their sisters, crying. The worst part was the robot has 3 triangles on the front of it, so the entire chapter wanted to take a picture with it. I'm the only one not in the picture.

DZPrincess2003 05-26-2004 05:01 PM

water I can't see through..... helloooo they spotted a great white off the coast of NC right where I go to the beach yesterday so NO WAY am I getting in the water!

and the dark..... like pitch dark. My twin brother used to lock me in our closet and he thought it was hilarious. Punk.

veemers 05-26-2004 05:07 PM

open cabinet doors in dark rooms. i'm always afraid that something will jump out at me, so i have to have to have to close all of my drawers and cabinet doors before i go to sleep.

DZHBrown 05-26-2004 05:14 PM

I get panicky when I'm underwater and a raft or something floats over me.
I also don't like crowds very much.

I'm not really scared of this, but I really have an aversion to it: Food in bulk. Don't ask my why, but it just bothers me! Haven't traced the root of that, yet....

ThetaPrincess24 05-26-2004 05:47 PM

Men who look like or dress like they've seen the softer side of Sears a few too many times. :P

TigerLilly 05-26-2004 05:49 PM

It scares when I'm floating somewhere and I float over something, like the drain in the pool. Whenever that happens I get all tense and can't float any more. One time when that happened my foot went down and landed on the drain grate, and that really freaked me out. I have no idea why I'm scared of this stuff.

Because you are afraid of getting sucked under by the drain and drowning :P

tinydancer 05-26-2004 05:58 PM

Oh now, don't be scared of the big standard poodles! I had one for years and they are really very sweet dogs. Mine was so good natured, but he was afraid of thunder.

Back to the question - I'm horribly afraid of frogs. I don't even like Kermit very much (even though he isn't terribly froggy)

lol they are called giant poodles hahaha (we used to have one- i hated him but thats because he was a jerk (yea i know... lol)

Quote:

water I can't see through.....
yup- i'm the same way- i HATE swimming in lakes and stuff- and the instant anything touches my foot- i start screaming/freaking out/actingl ike a total wuss and hightail it out of the water (and i'm spending the summer at a lake.. yea real smart right?)

i used to be afraid of open water (like in a boat on a river or ocean- and i live right near the hudson) but then i joined the crew team... so being in a boat thats only like 2 feet across helped me to get over that fear....

Quote:

Haha, no. Actually I think I'm more afraid that something creepy is going to come out of it. Stupid fear but there it is.

norcalchick 05-26-2004 06:27 PM

i hate open waters. i'm afraid of the ocean cause i might get sucked in and won't get out. or falling in the ocean/lake and who knows what the hell is underneath me. when i was about 12, i went camping at a lake and my older bro said "be careful going out there in the water. the old trees are going to catch your leg and your gonna drown." thanks bro :( so whenever i go in lakes or rivers or the ocean, i get freaked out if anything touches me.

BaylorBean 05-26-2004 06:28 PM

Little fish in lakes or rivers...I freak out that they are going to bite my toes...I am ok in the ocean but that is it...makes float trips interesting for me and my poor boyfriend

I am also scared of hyper dogs...I had a dog when I was little that was really hyper that would knock me down and clothes-line me with his chain when he was outside.

AppleDeltaPie 05-26-2004 07:35 PM

Sushi.

DZHBrown 05-26-2004 07:42 PM

BUGS. How could I forget bugs? I hate them and freak out when they come around. Especially those horrible beetle/june bug things. YUCK!

Peaches-n-Cream 05-26-2004 08:00 PM

I am afraid of falling onto the subway tracks.

cuaphi 05-26-2004 11:52 PM

Funny how so many of us are scared of water, oceans, pool drains, etc. Add me to that group. I used to be scared of the lake my grandparents lived at.

I think we are a generation destroyed by Jaws. Seriously.

G8Ralphaxi 05-26-2004 11:55 PM

Mayonnaisse and Minivans.

Mayo because of a recent food poisoning incident at a VERY inconvenient time (last February's bar exam). I get freaked out at the smell, seeing it squished on bread, etc. As long as that evil crap stays in the jar, I feel safe.

Minivans because they are trying to kill me, I know it. I'm not really afraid of being in one or seeing them in general, it's just when I'm driving and there's one on the road. You can't see around them and the people who own them just seem to be the WORST drivers on the planet. My mom used to have one and I know it had major blind spots, but it goes beyond that.

On my drive to work (ah, the joys of Interstate 4 in Orlando!), the minivans are either (1) flying along like they can't see other cars, coming up right behind you and tailgating, or (2) traveling so slow that I think it would be more productive for them to just put the thing in park and let the earth's rotation move them around.

Plus, I've had several near-misses with minivans, getting cut off, hearing that really nice SCCRREEEEEEEEEEECH of brakes as they barely stop in time, seeing them wander around the highway without regard to the lane markings, etc. One tried to kill me this morning - stupid driver was towing a U-haul trailer and driving too fast. I was in the left lane and the minivant next to me. The traffic got bad suddenly as I approached a hill (normal on I-4), so I slowed down. The minivan was tailgating, so they had to slam on the brakes, causing the trailer to sway back and forth. It came within inches of hitting my car.

Stupid, stupid minivans. Seriously, I know it sounds weird, but it keeps happening to me. I think I'm starting to develop a phobia.

GreekLetterGirl 05-27-2004 12:44 AM

There are few things that scare the heck out of me more than anything else...

1- Being head over heels in love with some one and the lack of control associated with the emotion of love,,,

2-FISH I HATE THEM MORE THAN ANYTHING I can't go to petco.petsmart and go NEAR the fish area... ugh are they some creapy looking animals...

AXJules 05-27-2004 01:37 AM

I swear I posted this somewhere else, but...

1. Handlebar mustaches. Gangs of NY was my worst nightmare.
2. Identical twins dressed exactly alike.
3. Carnies.

Really though. **shudders**

valkyrie 05-27-2004 01:40 AM

I'm claustrophobic, but I really don't find that weird. I'm also terribly afraid of doctors and medical procedures. I'm like an incomplete hypochondriac -- I'll always diagnose myself with terrible things like tumors and West Nile, but I'm afraid to go to the doctor to find out for sure. I'd rather be blissfully ignorant until I keel over dead one day.

As am I, but mine is in a weird way

...when 50 people are in a close proximity of me I start to freak out. Funny, especially since I go out to parties and clubs with large crowds of people almost every weekend.

Bugs scare the crap putta me

Sharon Osbourne is scary

Add me to that list. Lakes TERRIFY me. It comes from when I was a kid and we went to the club pool and my sister used to tell me that if I got too close to the drain it would suck me on to it and I wouldnt be able to move. Didnt help that the grate for it was all evil looking and kinda only partly on.

Well that fear transferred to lakes. When I was probably 9 our neighbors took us on the lake and the bastard neighbor wanted me to get on the skidoo. He was OCD about me getting on that damn skidoo. I told him I would if he'd let his son go on with me (I thought he was so cool being 14...). He said yeah, and then when I got on, pushed me out by myself. Started the boat and it was the most terrifying 4 minutes of my life till he crossed the wake and tumped me over RIGHT BY THE DAM. It was the longest 30 seconds ever till they picked me up. I think I jumped straight from the water into the boat. I was convinved I was gonna get sucked in by the drain thing and end up in someones drinking water.

My sister has since vehimently apologized for creating the phobia.

The thought is enough to push me over the edge. Being all sucked up against the grill of the intake, not being able to get away. I think I need a paper bag....

this reminded me of what my sister told me. she said that if i walked across the grates in the sidewalk it would open up and i would fall in and i wouldn't be able to get and and would die under there. to this day i have trouble walking across those, i almost always walk around. i did it last night when i was walking to dinner with a friend. he was like seriously, you need to get over that fear.

Me too! That's why the idea of having kids terrifies me... I wouldn't be able to deal with them when they throw up! I also have a pretty strong stomach... haven't thrown up for real since I was 10 (unless you count the college days when too much alcohol caused it ;)). But yeah, I do get nauseous all the time. Hmmmm... maybe people with strong stomachs are afraid of people puking because we're not used to it!

justamom 05-27-2004 08:12 AM

Currently, scared of terrorists
The devil
Heights-Colorado mountain roads-like Engineer's Pass-LITERALLY
freak me out not scared, FREAKED OUT. Being near a cliff without a rail
Eating spoiled food
Men who have a LOT of tattoos.
Ocean and sharks
Lakes and water moccasins
Bumble Bees and wasps

SSS1365 05-27-2004 08:22 AM

Oh, I forgot... driving, and being next to a big truck really makes me nervous! But I know where that fear comes from... my senior year of H.S., when my family was taking a road trip so I could look at a college, we almost got nailed by a trucker who had either lost control or fallen asleep or something. He came flying straight across 4 lanes, heading straight for us as we were merging onto the interstate.
