Arkansas Family Welcomes 17th CHILD

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...e/fifteen_kids

They need to donate some to the German childess couple. :p

Michelle, who home schools her children and is helping to build the family's new home in Tontitown from the ground up, started having her babies when she was 21, four years after she and Jim Bob married. He is a real estate businessman and a former state representative.

Their children include two sets of twins, and the parents have stuck to the letter "J" for their names. There is Joshua, 16; Jana and John-David, 14; Jill, 13; Jessa, 11; Jinger, 10; Joseph, 9; Josiah, 7; Joy-Anna, 6; Jeremiah and Jedidiah, 5; Jason, 4; James, 2; and Justin, 1.

Lady Pi Phi 05-25-2004 11:55 AM

Damn. She got married at 17!!!

My question is how does one afford all these kids???!!!

Steeltrap 05-25-2004 11:55 AM

Umm...

Dayum, that's a lot of kids. And how they stick to the J theme is beyond me.

Mr. Duggar, the daddy, is in real estate, and I imagine that the cost of living in Arkansas is rather low. So that's how Mrs. Duggar might be a stay-at-home mom.

ETA: I saw that picture and Mrs. Duggar needs to dress better. The plaid gingham jumper and Peter Pan collar look doesn't work for a grown woman.:p

They probably couldn't afford child care for all those kids.

...with 15 kids, it wouldn't appear she was dressing too much at all.

Yeah, no isht. She probably was in her gown most of the time, rolling over for Jim Bob when he got his need.

And yeah, I'm feeling a little snarky, but I get a nagging feeling that if we flipped the script and they were, say, Leroy and Shaquanda, there wouldn't be proclamations, etc. I'm thinking about that infamous Marion Barry TV appearance years ago when that woman, Jacqueline Williams, had 14 kids, was on the dole and Crackhead Barry told her to stop having kids and Ms. Williams smarted off about "God will tell me to have kids or something like that."

This was exactly what I thought about when I read the article. Folk may not want to admit it, but c'mon now.

15 Children.....thats being pregnant for about every year for 15 yrs.!!!!!!!! Whoa!!!!!!!

Peaches-n-Cream 05-25-2004 12:35 PM

I have known a few Irish Catholic families with over ten children including my family. My grandmother was the first of twelve as was her mother. That was a long time ago and is why I have so many cousins. My sister's ex-boyfriend was the fourteenth. My mother's boss has 18. It's rare, but not strange to me. :)

My father is the baby of 13.

If the parents were Leroy & ShaQuanda, and they were trying to stick with "J" names, it would have a been a hot mess.

Schools would have eventually been inudated with Jaquinetta; Jarius; Ja Rhonda; JayShaun; the twins Jamaal and Jamisha and so on and so forth.

Umm hell no. . .someone's uterus needs to be RETIRED!!!

Home briefly from the hospital later Monday, Jim Bob, 38, sounded a bit tired but happy. He said his wife and new son were doing fine. He said he leaves the decision up to Michelle on whether to have more children.

"I have always left it up to Michelle because she's actually the one that carries them and does all the labor," he said. "But we both love children. Even yesterday, she said she would like to have some more."

No, Michelle. It's time to visit the doctor, either the OB-GYN or the urologist for Jim Bob. Shut it down.
:p

I bet dude IS tired.

LMAO at CT4 throwing a uterus retirement party, that's got to be a GC first. I suggest we not hate though, cause Jim Bob obviously has the magic stick....even out in Utah, or Arkansas?

* Jim Bob, resplendent in his new bib overalls, feeling like da isht as he looks over his vast progeny assembled at the family compound. Preparing to shuck corn, he begins to feel it, and sets out a nasty fertility hop.....

"...I can stick once, I can stick twice, I got the magic stick... maaa-aa-gic, maaa-aa-gic."

Mrs. Jim Bob: "You betta stop J.B. I'm gettin' the vapors!" :)

Eeeeeeew!! That was an image I didn't need!

My g-grandmother had 15 kids, too, also with 2 sets of twins. But they named all (but one) of the boys with names starting with "J" and all the girls with names starting with "M".

Hence my real name starts with an "M"! :)

"Jaquinetta; Jarius; Ja Rhonda; JayShaun; the twins Jamaal and Jamisha and so on and so forth." Indeed!!

WenD08 05-26-2004 05:29 PM

i know if i were one of the 15 i would tell mom, that she has far exceeded her quota and that it's time to stop. i mean really, who wants to babysit all of those siblings? i'm pretty sure that those kids won't have 15 of their own based on how they grew up...
a human being w/its own litter (ie. not just for animals)...what's the point...

adduncan 05-26-2004 05:32 PM

I think people who are "pro-choice" have no business telling any woman how many children she should or should not have.

Who said we were trying to control how many children this family should have? Hell let her have kids til Jesus come back if she want to.

In all honesty, as a parent, I would not want to have so many kids because I want to be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel and be able to give each of my kids my time, attention and affection. I can only imagine how tired she is as a mother.

That's a lot of judgement being passed on what is universally regarded as an individual woman's choice.

CrimsonTide4 05-26-2004 05:55 PM

OH WTF eva!!!!!

I honestly do not care how many children that woman or any woman has. I cannot speak for Steeltrap or Jill or anyone else who agrees with what I posted.

Me saying her uterus should be retired is not my way of saying Mother of 15 should not be allowed to have any more children.

How the heck did I get drawn into a pro-choice argument? I don't share my thoughts on reproduction with people on this board. Please refrain from drawing me into something that I didn't choose to convey.
Thanks.

I went to a homeschooling convention a few years ago and I think I was the only woman there who wasn't wearing a jumper (and some of them had matching family outfits like the family above). Another woman told me that you tend to see so many jumpers on homeschoolers because so many of the moms don't believe in birth control and then don't have the figure to wear dresses with a waist.

I can just see me trying to get my teenagers to wear matching plaid jumpers. Uh, yeah. Not even my 9 year olds.

We know lots of other big families. Seems like the "Family of the Year" should get that award for extraordinary accomplishments, not just for being big.

Man, you're lucky and I'm jealous!:D I have one and.....well, I won't tell how much weight I've gained, let's just say I'm 5'1" and I will NEVER see 120 pounds again!

Jill1228 05-26-2004 08:21 PM

Judgemental? WTF???

Co-sign!
adduncan, I think you flew off the handle and misjudged on this one! Most people on GC know that I am a flaming pro-choicer...hell I even marched on Washington for it!

The way I look at it is: I don't care if she has 50 kids, just as long as she is not sponging off MY hard earned tax money to do it. If you want to have the kids and can afford it, more power to you!

Now if she is getting govt assistance and having baby after baby and sponging off my tax money then I have EVERY right to be judgmental.

But this does not seem to be the case, so I ain't mad at her!

Just saying, better her than me! :p I am just shuddering at 15 kids! I hope she has time to lock the bathroom and take a nice hot bubble bath and read a trashy novel from time to time. :)
