Your religion demonination

I'm Catholic. But I'm thinking about becoming Presbytetarian.

The1calledTKE 05-23-2004 10:48 PM

Cathlolic that hasn't really practiced much since I was 16.

tinydancer 05-23-2004 10:50 PM

Raised Episcopalian, but Methodist since college.

Glitter650 05-23-2004 10:53 PM

Went to presbyterian chruch all through Jr. high and high school... haven't really been going to church since I started/finished college... I'd say I'm basically a general protestant

ThetaPrincess24 05-23-2004 10:53 PM

I was raised Baptist.....converted to Catholicism at 18. During this Lent I reinvolved myself in the church as a happy practicing Catholic. :)

KillarneyRose 05-23-2004 10:54 PM

Raised Catholic, but I was received into the Episcopal Church last spring

honeychile 05-23-2004 10:58 PM

Baptist, specifically American Baptist Evangelical.

I was fortunate enough to have gone to services at 23 different denominations (with my parents' blessing!), starting from the age of eight. I have also belonged to a Presbyterian Church, and a non-denominational church.

Honeykiss1974 05-23-2004 11:04 PM

I was born and raised Baptist, but now attend a non-denominational church. :)

GeekyPenguin 05-23-2004 11:12 PM

I'm Catholic, but the second they deny me Communion, I'm zooming over to the Epsicopalian Church, which my Theo prof calls compassionate Catholicism. :p

AlethiaSi 05-23-2004 11:17 PM

both my parents were raised in fairly religious households (mom methodist and dad baptist) and wanted me to make up my mind about where i wanted to be. I was never baptized and I don't plan on it any time soon. My grandfather (moms) was going to be a (born again??) minister- and he never pushed me to be anything else then myself.... so thats what i do. I have my own relationship with god- and i pray but not all the time- and i don't attend church... I have my own feelings about religion but thats due to personal experience and my beliefs...

in some ways- i wish that i had grown up with a religion... i don't really understand a lot of things in the bible- and some things are lost on me (I learned the most in my history classes though) - my parents brought me up with the same principles though so i guess thats good ( i htink they did a good job:) )

ISUKappa 05-23-2004 11:19 PM

Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.

Born and raised as is my husband. We've just found a church in our city that we like so we'll start attending more regularly and being more involved.

Grew Up in Church of God in Christ
Went Non-denominational at 17
Thinking about converting to Catholicism...

MSKKG 05-23-2004 11:27 PM

I have been a practicing Orthodox Christian my whole life.

queequek 05-23-2004 11:29 PM

Roman Catholic. For life.

ZTAMich 05-23-2004 11:37 PM

Born and raised Baptist. Attending a Presby. church here in NYC and am quite comfortable there too.

aurora_borealis 05-24-2004 12:02 AM

ELCA Lutheran since 1988. The Evangelical Lutheran Church of America didn't exist before then. The church I was baptized in was an American Lutheran Church. However with issues currently in the church, there may not be an ELCA in the next couple of years.

However being a pan-Lutheran person, I could share a hot dish and a jello salad with ISUKappa :)

Edited after phonecall to mom for clarification. We didn't change our church constitution from Norwegian until the 50's. The Lutherans two blocks away still worship in German, and there is a congregation in the East Bay that worships in Finnish.

Taualumna 05-24-2004 12:23 AM

Baptized Catholic, but currently attending an Anglican church. I haven't officially been received/converted yet. I guess I'm "religiously confused".

DeltAlum 05-24-2004 12:28 AM

Ordained Elder in the Presbyterian Church, USA.

(Although I often wonder if they think they made a mistake.)

Oh you crazy liberal ELCA Lutherans. Every good LCMS Lutheran (that doesn't live in Minnesota) knows it's a casserole! ;) But I'm totally with you on the jello salad! :D

That's it!!! I am sending my t-shirt proof of "Top Ten Lutheran Disasters" (once we get the funding from Thrivent) to you and sageofages, as you'll both understand that: showing up late for Church and having to sit up front, running out of coffee, having your masking tape name disappear off your casserole dish, and having to sing by ear since the organist is ill are SERIOUS Lutheran disasters that transcend ELCA, LCMS, and WELS lines. All proceeds are going to Lutheran World Relief.

Tee Hee ;)

DZHBrown 05-24-2004 01:23 AM

Raised Baptist, now Episcopalian. Was baptised in the Episcopal Church in 2000.

Munchkin03 05-24-2004 01:31 AM

Remember Are you there, God? It's Me, Margaret?

I'm nothing. :)

I don't regret growing up without a religious foundation. Luckily, the dude is in the same position.

been either presbyterian or methodist depending on the city where i have been working.
ordained deacon in the prebyterian church. yes. i've chaired a committee.

SSS1365 05-24-2004 08:34 AM

Raised Catholic, but never baptized. Married into a Catholic family. Maybe I'll get myself baptized someday, but it's a lot harder to do as an adult!

AlphaSigOU 05-24-2004 08:58 AM

Baptized Roman Catholic, not a practicing one. Considering I can no longer receive Communion because I am also a Freemason, I'll be just as happy to walk over to the Episcopal Church.

ZTAngel 05-24-2004 09:06 AM

Reformed Judaism

AOIIBrandi 05-24-2004 09:32 AM

Baptised Methodist (family thing), have gone to an Episcopal Church since I can remember and was confirmed Episcopalian at 16.

Lisa Fishman 05-24-2004 09:33 AM

Reform Judiasm I always have been and I always will be.

KSigkid 05-24-2004 10:51 AM

Raised Catholic, but have gone to Episcopal Church for nearly three years; like it much better.

GeekyPenguin 05-24-2004 11:34 AM

I'm so excited all these other Catholics are looking into the Episcopalian Church. I've become so fed up with Burke's new doctrines and the Pope's pretty much endorsing them, that I just feel like I have no place in the church anymore.

same.

smiley21 05-24-2004 11:55 AM

non-denominational christian

greeklawgirl 05-24-2004 12:05 PM

I am an Orthodox Christian, specifically under the jurisdiction of the Greek Orthodox Church.

Geeky Penguin, in your studies, have you ever looked at Orthodox Christianity? Up until a few years ago, Orthodoxy actually considered the Anglican Church to be more doctrinally close to us than Catholicism. Many Catholics are converting to Orthodoxy, especially now that the Greek/Antiochian/Russian/Coptic churches in the US are much more welcoming of people who aren't that particular ethnicity. You might be surprised at what you find when you take a closer look.

OleMissGlitter 05-24-2004 12:08 PM

Born and raised Catholic in New Orleans, LA! I go to church here in Oxford, MS now and then.

Sister Havana 05-24-2004 12:47 PM

I'm Jewish...specifically, Conservative Jewish. (Conservative here has nothing to do with political beliefs though! :D )

I was much more religious in high school than I am now.

Once you go Jewish, you never go back.
