Favorite Movie That Flopped

Mine has to be The Adventures of Pluto Nash and Death to Smoochy.

lauralaylin 05-19-2004 04:06 PM

Donnie Darko, but they are rereleasing it this summer with deleted scenes.

wreckingcrew 05-19-2004 04:14 PM

Death to Smoochy is a classic.

My favorite Jim Carrey movie that noone else seems to like is Cable Guy. I guess people didn't like his dark, stalker character, but i found it hilarious.

No question...

Dangerous Beauty. One of my favorite movies of all time, which only grossed about $5 million in the US.

One review: "`Dangerous Beauty' is one of those films that came and went so quickly most people don't even know it exists, which is a sad thing because the film is one of the year's best. `Dangerous Beauty' failed at the box office because it was a period piece, which most people associate with those long-in-the-tooth Merchant Ivory films. What audience's failed to realize is that `Dangerous Beauty' is a period piece with attitude, told with sharp, witty dialogue against a canvas filled with stunning, gorgeous images."

October Sky....Maybe because it is based on my favorite book. Awesome movie.

ASUADPi 05-19-2004 10:17 PM

Y'all are gonna laugh, but mine would have to be the 1992 movie Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This is mainly because the flop still managed to inspire the hit TV series for which I am eternally grateful. LOL.

DeltaSigStan 05-19-2004 10:24 PM

Flopped cause the movie sucked: All three Ninja Turtles movies

Flopped because it didnt' do well at the box office: Baron Munchusen

AOII_LB93 05-19-2004 10:41 PM

Well I don't know that they flopped, but I adore Super Troopers and Sorority Boys.

THANK YOU! SOMEONE ELSE HAS SEEN THIS GREAT MOVIE.

It got gutted with the critics, but I think it had a great story for what it was, an over-the-top cliche macho fest. They did it very well.

I loved that movie, too! I saw it on Cinemax, though. I didn't even realize it had been in theatres!

My favorite flop movie is "Mr. Wrong" with Ellen DeGeneres and the-guy-who-played-the-president-in-independence-day. I still laugh my a** off when he dresses as a clown and climbs up to her window.

Hell yeah I saw that too. Great movie. You know they're making a sequel?

But in terms of movies I like being money makers - most of the movies I like were really small ones so they didn't make money.

Yeah, sometime pretty soon I heard...

Oh, I also love the movie, Pi, great movie on chaos theory, amazing movie...

Oh, and "WAKING LIFE" that movie is just amazing, you really need to watch that!!!

DeltaSigStan 05-19-2004 11:34 PM

2 things though about Boondock Saints:

We could have dealt without the scene where Willem Dafoe "conducts" that firefight....too long and drawn out...

And, umm......all I'm gonna say is: "I just wanted to cuddle"

We coulda done without that too....

DeltaSigStan 05-19-2004 11:34 PM

Another one: Waking Ned Devine...didn;t really do well at the box office...very funny

I LOVE Striptease. I have the DVD and watch it at least once a week. I liked the book, and love Demi, so the combination probably made me like it!

"Somewhere In Time" with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour.
I love that kind of stuff.

DigitalAngel126 05-20-2004 02:20 PM

Boondock Saints, Super Troopers, and Death to Smootchy - - definately!

chideltjen 05-20-2004 03:10 PM

The Time Machine - the one with Samantha Mumba and that other guy in it. I am sure the book is fabulous. But even though it didn't do too well and got bad reviews, I still kinda enjoyed it.

I don't remember Memento ever doing that well in the theaters either. Then again, it may have been limited release. I can't remember.

Swing Kids... also don't remember that movie doing well. But I love it every time it comes on Encore! I guess it's the music and dancing that get me.

I really liked Blue Chips, the movie which starred Nick Nolte as the basketball coach and Shaq, Penny Hardaway and Matt Nover as the recruits.

I saw that movie last weekend...it's so cute! The boyfriend had been trying to get me to watch it since Christmas (it's apparently one of his favorite movies)

Mallrats

ASUADPi 05-21-2004 01:55 PM

starship troopers. (LOL)

(I find it quite humorous that they are attempting to fight these huge bugs that are incredibly smart, and in the future, with only machine guns)

I love that movie!

ETA: Dazed and Confused. I don't know if it ever made it to the box office. I don't remember it ever being on the big screen. But I love that movie.

chideltjen 05-24-2004 06:56 PM

I forgot this other movie I liked. There was a movie called "Loser" and it starred Jason Biggs as, well, a loser. It was a cute movie and it never really went anywhere in the box office.

I loved this movie when I was younger. I have it on VHS and I still have almost the entire movie memorized. I never got into the TV series though.

phigamucsb 05-27-2004 08:43 PM

Over the Top. How could you make any better movie than Sly Stalone as a pro arm wrestler.
