Chicago/Milwaukee GC Get-together

Hey kids,

I was just reading another thread where some people mentioned possibly getting a Chicago GC get-together going.

I'll be at a tradeshow in Ohio from June 16-20. Then, since I'll be "in the neighborhood", I thought I would pop on over to Chicago to visit my family from the 21st to the 27th or so. If you really want to get a Chicago GC get-together going, I'm game from Monday the 21st through Friday the 25th of June!

Like, 80% of my family lives in the Chicago area. I've got sisters, aunts, uncles and a BIG group of cousins all over place there. I think one of my cousins and his wife are offering to let me stay with them and they live in Highland Park. My aunt and uncle also live near them in Deerfield. I'm not sure which relatives I will be staying with; but pretty much everyone is on the north side of Chicago.

I'm kinda clueless when it comes to "Chicago proper"/downtown (?). So, I'm game for whatever any Chi-Town GC residents would like to cook up. Heh....though, I would been really keen to get together at Lou Malnati's! I LOVE those deep dish pies!

What say you?

.....Kelly :)

Ginger 05-19-2004 10:53 AM

Hey, this would be a good excuse for me to go down to Chicago agan :) I've only been there once that didn't involve an airport.

I'd love to go!

Sister Havana 05-19-2004 12:19 PM

I'm in!

I am going to be in my little's wedding in Michigan...rehearsal is June 24, wedding is June 25. But I am fine for the other days!

GeekyPenguin 05-19-2004 01:07 PM

I'll be in the north suburbs then but I'll be at Gamma Phi Beta's convention, so you can count me out. I think I'll be busy enough. :)

AXJules 05-19-2004 01:13 PM

While I don't think I can make it, I am from Northbrook which is right next to Deerfield and Highland Park- all about 20 miles north of the city. If you need any help/suggestions with that area (not for GC but just for you) let me know!

You lie like a rug. You live in the projects.

Didn't they tear Cabrini Green down? Or is it still up?

Rhonda

Phasad1913 05-20-2004 12:10 AM

I might come, depending on the location and the mood I'm in on that day.

GeekyPenguin 05-20-2004 12:37 AM

Our conventions do indeed go all day - I'm picking up kk_gphib_01 Thursday evening, then we will be at convention all day Friday and all night Friday, as well as all day and all night Saturday. We're going to be busy little GPhis!

mshoole 05-20-2004 06:43 PM

I'll go...pm me and let me know what are the plans. Im really free when ever.

MS

navane 05-23-2004 06:05 PM

Come on, Chicago folks, work with me here! :p

I suppose I could just do an internet search and come up with a place and time - but I'm not really all that familiar with the city.

Or, knowing me, I would book a meal at one of the Polish restaurants on Milwaukee Ave. Though, I'm not sure if you all would be too keen on that! ;)

Anyone have any ideas for Monday the 21st through Friday the 25th of June?

Dittoes. I'll be out of school/work (June 4th can't come soon enough!), so I can probably make just about anything with enough advance notice.

I live in the burbs, so I have no idea what to do or where to meet, other than I'm not a "clubbing" or dance party person.

Navy Pier might be interesting, since there's tons of places to gather and eat, but that's about all that's coming to me right now...

mshoole 06-04-2004 01:29 PM

So what is the news about this gang? are we doing it or not? what are some of the ideas...I was thinking maybe we could go to Uno's or Due's (Sorry for the spelling) and maybe meet somewhere like that or Navy Pier sounded fun. What if we all got together and saw a Cubs game or a Sox game? What about that?

Let me know

Is there any way to schedule another one for...say, July 17-20?

Many of us GC AGDs will be out in full force in Chicago for our Centennial Convention. At this point, Monday July 19th would seem like the most ideal day considering we have a free afternoon and evening off from Convention festivities. In the AGD forum many of us were interested in getting pizza together or something.

I'm game (and I'm sure some others will be too) to do something after the evening Convention events too.

Anyway, Convention central will be at the Chicago Downtown Marriott. Convention ends on the 21st, but I will be in town until Monday the 26th.

I'm looking forward to having a cocktail or two or three with Jules and Blaine. I still owe the biatch shots for her birthday!

Let us know!

Sister Havana 06-05-2004 12:26 PM

I'm game. :)

Rudey 06-05-2004 02:00 PM

I honestly don't leave work until really late. I also won't be eating foods like pizza because I'm not a fatty and my stick-figure model gf requires me to be cut up. So I think I'll be passing.

Have fun to everyone that comes. Chicago sucks, the girls are eh, but I guess the lake is kinda pretty so you might enjoy it :)

WOOT! That is the best thing I've heard all day. Remind me to give you my cell- cannot wait for our night of destruction!

navane 06-16-2004 04:42 PM

Hi again,

Can we set something up for Thursday or Friday afternoon/evening, June 24 or 25?

As some of you have just found out, I will be initiated into Gamma Phi Beta on Saturday, so I really can't do Saturday. My family has picked Sunday as our get-together day.

If we pick Navy Pier, as some have suggested, will I know where to meet you all?

.....Kelly :)

Ginger 06-16-2004 05:07 PM

Looks like I won't be able to make it after all, at least not that particular week. :(

Bia, I'm thinking about getting a hotel room for the weekend before I leave. You mentioned something about getting one in the suburbs since it's cheaper....any suggestions? I'm afraid I won't be able to get around since I'll get lost in an instant!

Can't do Thursday night, since I have theater tickets, but I could do an afternoon Thursday or some time on Friday, maybe.

Meeting at Navy Pier is fine as long as you pick a place to meet, like the ferris wheel or the garden or whatever.

Sister Havana 06-19-2004 12:26 AM

Thursday and Friday are the days I won't be around...I will be going to Michigan for a wedding!

mshoole 06-19-2004 06:58 PM

I say you pick a date and tell me. Then tell me when to meet you there. I am game for anything. I work doing the day so email me at my personal email ask sister havana for it if you need it. I can check it from work. I will be in town (I am almost permanently in California) The next two weeks of June and the first 3 weeks of July. Then I wont be back till the 3rd week of august for a little r and r before the school season starts.

My dad grew up in Deerfield (Duffy Lane!) and my cousin lives in Highland Park. :D

Ok! Friday, June 25 at 7pm in front of the ferris wheel at Navy Pier.

mshoole? kateshort? Phasad1913?

Tell you what, post here or e-mail me at csulbkds@yahoo.com and let me know if you'll be there. I'll even give you my cell phone number so you know how to reach me. Otherwise, I guess I'll just show up and, if no one else does, have lots of fun by myself. :)

I've been to six GC gatherings across two countries.....please, let's not make Chicago my first disappointment ok? :)

NO WAY!!!!! :D

I don't remember the house number, but my dad's old house is on the corner of Duffy and Trillium. The last time I saw it with my own eyes, which was 8 years ago (!), it had a lightpost in front by the street. Also, if you face the house and look down the right side (where Trillium Rd is), there is/was an old ditch running along side the property which is now half filled. As a kid, my dad used to have to dig that ditch as punishment.

It's a small world after all.........

....the next thing you know, you're going to tell me that your aunt and uncle also live on Somerset........

I just saw this thread, and already have plans for tomorrow. :( Have fun, though!

kateshort 06-25-2004 09:32 PM

I'm such a dork...

I've been doing major spring cleaning all day and most of yesterday... and I totally forgot to check in with GreekChat!

Poop. I would have liked to meet you. I'm very sorry for flaking out.

-sigh-

Phasad1913 06-25-2004 10:33 PM

Damn! I just saw this and knew nothing about the plans tonite! I am so mad because I have nothing to do tonite, obviously!! ARGGGH! I am so sorry.

navane 06-25-2004 10:55 PM

That's ok. Since no one said they were going, I didn't go and stand all by myself like a dork at Navy Pier. (I saw Navy Pier earlier in the day).

Oh well, I guess you all can try again when OTW and the AGD's get to town...........

.....Kelly :(

mshoole 06-29-2004 03:34 PM
