Harry Potter - POA countdown thread

Prisoner of Azkaban is opening in less than a month (June 4th). I saw some previews for it during an ABC screening last night. It looks really good/well done in comparison to the first 2.

Anyone else excited?
And does anyone else know when book 6 is coming out?

DWAlphaGam 05-10-2004 12:32 PM

I'm so excited! POA is my favorite book of the series, and it looks like the film adaptation is going to be good. :)

Lady Pi Phi 05-10-2004 12:33 PM

I am so excited for this movie!!1 I can't wait. It's taken far too long.

I think this one is different partly because it wasn't directed by Chris Columbus.

sageofages 05-10-2004 12:37 PM

and no Richard Harrison to be Albus Dumbledore!

I love the HP series. The second movie was so much better than the first, I can only hope for the improvement with book 3.

I know there is a new actor for Dumbledore. For some reason I thought it was going to be Sir Ian, but I was watching the previews last night, and it wasn't... it was some other guy. Where the heck did I hear that rumor?

That's a very old rumor. The new actor was announced months and months ago.
Dumbeldore will be played by Michael Gambon.

Taualumna 05-10-2004 12:45 PM

I heard that they just casted a girl to play Harry's first girlfriend, Cho Chang. Her name's Katie Leung and she's from Scotland.

Ginger 05-10-2004 01:20 PM

Eek! I'm so excited :) I can't believe it's less than a month away!

I've heard the same rumour about September, but I'm not going to get my hopes up!

AUDeltaGam 05-10-2004 01:25 PM

I can't wait, especially since POA is my favorite book!!

And about the September rumor:

AHHH!!!

I love Harry Potter, and PoA is one of my favorite of the books!

I think Cuaron is going to do a great job with the movie!

Do any of y'all ever go to www.fictionalley.com? I do!

Jadey28 05-10-2004 01:31 PM

I can't wait!!!!!!!!!

I'm so glad that my friend is the manager of a movie theater. We're going to watch it, kid-free, at midnight June 3rd-4th. And on a side note, my roommate's younger brother is going to Harry Potter camp this summer. They get sorted and all! How cool is that?!?!?!:D

link doesn't work...:(
And I thought that Cho wasn't going to make an appearance until the 4th movie. Again... probably rumors. Oh well...

And :( about the 6th book. *sigh* Oh well, I have a few other books to read this summer/fall anyway.

No, they're talking about Katie Leung being cast for the fourth movie, Goblet of Fire. GoF started filming last month and they're currently in the last stages of casting for roles like Cho, Fleur, Madam Maxime, Rita Skeeter etc. Goblet of Fire is the 4th movie. Of course, it could turn out to be a rumor that Katie Leung is Cho, but the role has almost certainly just been cast.

Do tell...I have sons who want to go (tagging along with me!)

Jadey28 05-10-2004 05:34 PM

I don't know much about the camp....he goes to a private school, so I'm guessing the school is putting it together for a summer-fun program. I asked if I could be a counselor. I was told no. :( Little kids have all the fun.

lauralaylin 05-10-2004 05:48 PM

Besides the camp, there are all those educational lecture symposium things going on. There is one in Las Vegas at some point, one in England next year I believe, and the Witching Hour in Salem, MA in October 2005, which I will definitely be at!

So is anyone going to the midnight showing of the movie? I work with one of the women planning the line party here in Boston, so I should be. I don't know if I'll be able to function at work the next day though!

tinydancer 05-10-2004 05:54 PM

I will definitely be there on opening day, as I was with the other two movies!! I need to read POA again before then to refresh my memory.:)

yeah i was going to try and read the series again just to refresh.
I will be there Friday night for sure. I would go at midnight on the 3rd/4th but I will render useless at work the next morning.

AOII_LB93 05-10-2004 06:34 PM

So for the next HP movie, are they still using all of the same actors? JKR needs to get going on the last two books if they expect to use the same kids for too much longer as they are growing so quickly! I can't imagine a 21 year old Daniel Radcliffe wanting to continue to play HP...but who knows.

I can't wait...I was even thinking about calling in a sub to work that day so I can go see it, but I guess that I can just wait until after work and buy my tickets online or something. =P

I've been hearing all these rumors that they'll switch cast members and use other kids for the next movies. Has anyone else heard these?

I'm really really hoping that they're not true, because I think that that would just be silly. Daniel Radcliffe and co. do such a great job.

About the kids being like 21 and still playing the roles...I think they could do it. When you look at current teen-style movies, you get a lot of actors and actresses who are that age and even older playing kids who are in high school. It's completely possible to pull it off.

If the producers keep on their schedule of roughly one movie per year or year and a half, the kids shouldn't be that much older than the characters they play by the time the movies are finished, anyway.

And they better keep to that schedule!!! I'm soooo excited about the third one coming out. One friend and I act like freaks every time a preview comes on for it, and embarrass our other friends. :D

chideltjen 05-10-2004 07:14 PM

One rumor I heard (though I wouldn't believe it because i am 0/2 on this thread already...) is that Daniel and co signed on for at least the 4th movie. Don't know about the other ones.

And did anyone see Matchstick Men? With Nick Cage? The girl that played "his daughter" is actually in her mid 20s or so but had to play a 14 year old. (That I remember reading in Cosmo.) So it is possible for these kids to play younger roles.

The girl who plays the middle daughter in "8 Simple Rules" is 24 according to the IMDB.

Well I would say that that much is true, that they're going to play in the 4th movie, too, because that's already in production. (This is according to mugglenet, one of those links breathesgelatin gave earlier.) But past that?

I was just looking at pictures on mugglenet, and if you compare recent publicity photos of the kids with still shots from the upcoming movie, they look totally different! Very much older in the publicity shots (you know, makeup and styling and all that), much younger and childlike in the movie stills. I think it's totally possible to keep the same kids throughout and just make them look younger with makeup and stuff. But there are still those rumors...grrr.

rainbowbrightCS 05-10-2004 08:18 PM

Only 24 Days from right now thanks www.mugglenet.com

I cant wait to see it!

BaylorBean 05-10-2004 08:29 PM

OMG I am soooooo excited for the movie to come out. I think it looks like its going to be more "epic" than the past two, which I am happy about. I'm glad that they are switching up directors so we get to see different takes on each of the stories (the 4th one has a different director than the 3rd). The same actors are signed on for the 4th movie.

I sure hope the rumors are true that the 6th book will be coming soon!!!

Hahahahahahahaha. That is just too funny! :) I cannot wait for the third movie to come out. The third book was by far my favorite. Does anyone know what the sixth book will be called?

AOII_LB93 05-10-2004 11:14 PM

Oh no guys, I wasn't saying that older folk can't play the kiddies in films...I just think it would suck if they got all new actors...so they need to get on the ball! I mean a new Dumbledore, well that was needed since R.Harris has gone on to the great beyond, but I can't even imagine a new Ron, Hermione, or Draco...and is it just me being the old perv that I am, or is he getting cuter as he's gotten older?

**this thread makes me feel like a dirty old lady**;)

Actually Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) IS getting hotter as he is getting older ;)

I hate to admit this but I could easily take a tumble for Severus Snape! That actor is fabulous ;) in a greasy smarmy oh-so-sexy kind of way.

KillarneyRose 05-11-2004 03:44 AM

Of all the Harry Potter books thus far, this is the one I've most wanted to see adapted to the big screen. I an so excited to see if the Dementors look the way I picture them!

"Dementors are among the foulest creatures that walk this earth. They infest the darkest, filthiest places, they glory in decay and despair, they drain peace, hope, and happiness out of the air around them. Even Muggles feel their presence, though they can't see them. Get too near a dementor and every good feeling, every happy memory will be sucked out of you. If it can, the dementor will feed on you long enough to reduce you to something like itself...soul-less and evil. You will be left with nothing but the worst experiences of your life."

It actually would be in the best Hollywood tradition for twenty-somethings to play teen-agers. Most of the cast members of Beverly Hills 90210 were in their 20's (some in their late 20's) or late teens when that show went on the air, just give one example.

It's not you, although I was thinking Daniel Radcliffe & even Rupert Grint were maturing nicely...DH was commenting on what a hottie Emma Watson is going to be during the POA commentary on Sunday. Tom Felton's (Draco) not growing up to be my particular cup o' tea, but I can totally relate to the person who said they'd like to break off some of that Severus Snape or even Lucius Malfoy!

Now-let's talk about people we'd like to see in a future HP flick: PLEASE! Find a role for Liam Neeson & Colin Firth!!! (perhaps Colin Firth could be a mature Harry in future, since JKR is talking about continuing the series beyond Hogwarts...now THAT would be cool!) The actor who appears as James Potter resembles Colin Firth a little bit....

Who else?

Rio_Kohitsuji 05-11-2004 10:25 AM

I heard a rumnor that they were only going to make movies of the first 3 books, POA being the last. :( I hope all ya'll are correct, cause I'm dying to see what they do with the rest of the series!! :D

Anyone else rereading POA right before the movie?

Oh yeah..I'm w/the "dirst ole ladies" on here..heh..Draco is getting hotter..can't wait to see Sirius all cleaned up.. :o ;)

"The Goblet of Fire" is in production now. They started filming in MArch (according to imdb.com) and it is scheduled to be released in 2005.

"The Order of The Phoenix" is scheduled for release in 2007.

All according to imdb.com

dzandiloo I am with you! I would love to see Colin Ferth in an upcoming HP movie and yes, Lucius, so evil yet so delish!!
