SOMETHING THE LORD MADE is the story of two men - an ambitious white surgeon and a gifted black carpenter turned lab technician - who defied the racial strictures of the Jim Crow South and together pioneered the field of heart surgery http://www.hbo.com/films/stlm/?ntrac...ategory5_show0 |
Yes, I saw the preview for this after the Soprano's went off. I can't wait to see it.
|
Ah the Mighty Mos Def. I hope that he represents with this role. He's working hard to get credible roles. Y'all remember him from the Cosby Mysteries?

Saw this after the Soprano's went off last night. I can't wait for it to come on HBO
Also, can't wait for Everyday People, another HBO original, seems like it might be good as well. |

I just finished watching and this film moved me. It was very touching and special. I wish that more films had meaning and basis as this one. This was something that I never knew about and I am happy that this story was told. Mos Def is really coming into his own as an actor. I love him more everyday! :D
I'll keep my comments about the film until more people have seen it. I don't want to give it away. |
I missed the first part of it. I caught it starting right were he got the pay raise and telephone line.
That should throw em off a lil, I hate spoilers. I enjoyed it. I wanna see Everyday People too. |
One word...fantastic. I missed the first showing, but I saw a repeat early this morning. Story, cast, acting...wonderful.
Check out the Mos (LOVE HIM!) interview on www.hbo.com. Favorite portion of the interview "Well, a lot of things have changed. There's still quiet segregation in a lot of American life. In the climate he was living in, it was really the law of the land. I think nowadays, it's much more clandestine and not so easily detectable. But in his day, coming up as a young man with a family, it was the law of the land; it was the letter of the law. And what appealed to me about Dr. Thomas is the way that he navigated and negotiated a relationship with himself in those environments. You know, there's a way that the world feels about a man, and then there's a way that the man feels about himself. And I think Dr. Thomas had a very clear idea of who he was and what he wanted to do. And he just had this extraordinary focus, and he was a very sensitive and aware. When he started to work in medicine, he was definitely an anomaly. And he stood out. He just negotiated a very different relationship with his surroundings that allowed him to stay focused and didn't disturb his aim. Great Idea...
I did enjoy the show. I hope many watched in light of the fact the Sopranos was pre-empted last night.

I saw it last night and I loved it!! I watched again this morning! Great movie, wish there were more out there like it. I love Mos Def, he was great in this role!
|
I enjoyed this movie. I think Mos Def and Alan Rickman were great. Actually, the entire cast did a good job.
|
I saw it last night....I loved it, loved it, LOVED IT! I found myself tearing up at the end. I can't imagine how he felt when he was at the banquet listening to the Dr's speech. I am pleasantly surprised by Mos Def's performance, I really enjoyed it.

Watched it last night and it was great!

Thanks for the good word on Something...
After reading this thread, I think I'll catch this. I'm one of these people who are wary of the rapper/actor trend, but it sounds like Mos Def has skills and talent.

Miracle's Boys on The N
Saw this while watching Degrassi. This is a mini-series that will air on The N in 2005. It is based on the book by Jacqueline Woodson. Directors of episodes include Spike Lee, Bill Duke, and LeVar Burton.
http://www.the-n.com/ntv/shows/image...ng_220x130.jpg Miracle's Boys revolves around three half-Puerto Rican, half-African-American, orphaned teenage brothers living in Harlem, NY and their struggle to hold their family together. The drama reflects the everyday lives of the Bailey brothers : Lafayette (14 years old), Charlie (16 years old) and Ty'ree (20 years old), whose beloved mother, Milagros (Spanish for 'Miracle'), has recently died and whose father is also deceased. Miracle's Boys is also the story of Harlem and the many ways the boys are impacted by their community, friends and their school. The brother's world revolves around everyday life, the school that Lafayette and Charlie attend, Ty'ree's job, and their block of apartment buildings where everyone knows everyone's business. But, the Bailey brothers live together as a family on a trial basis -- one false move and all will be lost. Miracle's Boys is a series reflecting the humor and drama of their everyday lives as they struggle to hold their new family together. Mos Def is going to be in a new HBO movie (or series, couldn't tell from the preview) called Lackawanna Blues (not sure of the spelling. The Lt. from Law and Order (last name Merkenson or something??), Rosie Perez, Delroy Lindy and other will also star.
It comes out in February/ |
