without knowing or having seen many i'm going to say University of Alabama... what does everyone else think?

[EDIT] PS - by beautiful, i mean the houses

Sister Havana 05-03-2004 07:18 PM

My alma mater (Indiana University) has some gorgeous houses, especially the older ones on Third Street.

ADPiShannan 05-03-2004 07:48 PM

Iowa State University I have heard have nice houses.

Jill1228 05-03-2004 07:59 PM

I would say University of Washington

1savvydiva 05-03-2004 08:01 PM

I think that the greek village that is under construction at U of S. Carolina is pretty nice. They have pics of some of the first houses at their website . You can click on the letters of the sorority/fraternity to view their house.

ETA: There aren't a lot of orgs moving in just yet. No NPHC groups.

WOW! When that's done it looks like it will be amazing... any other schools with "greek villages"?

Yes, we do. Our Greek community has a long history and that is reflected in many of our chapter houses. I would say the majority of them are 70+ years old, though many have been built-on to, and have a lot of character.

Check out www.isugreeks.com for chapter websites. Many of them have photos.

bamabelle005 05-03-2004 11:31 PM

yea for bama!!!! we do have some of the prettiest houses in the country!!! we have several older houses such as the zeta chapter of Kappa Delta, the psi chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta, the nu chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha, and the eta chapter of Alpha Delta Pi. but all of our other houses are beautiful such as Delta Delta Delta's round house, and Alpha Omicron Pi, Kappa Alpha Theta, Alpha Chi Omega, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Phi Mu, Sigma Delta Tau, Gamma Phi Beta, Delta Zeta, Chi Omega, Pi Beta Phi!!!!! yay for BAMA!!!! and we have some of the nicest frat houses too!!! and for the most part they stay pretty clean!! my favorite sorority house at bama is Tri-Delta' s because their house is 100% round!! and SAE and Phi Gam's houses are really nice too!!! and many of the frat houses are over 100 years old!!!!!

Not their fraternities.

I'm personally a big fan of the row at Wisconsin - they're mostly older houses and they're on a lake!

Bradley does a great job of having houses in an urban environment, although they aren't your stereotypical gorgeous house.

Peaches-n-Cream 05-04-2004 01:34 AM

Cornell and Syracuse have beautiful houses. UVA and Penn were nice from what I remember. I visited those schools once many years ago.

sororitygirl2 05-04-2004 01:40 AM

U of I at Urbana-Champaign houses are GORGEOUS!

University of Colorado at Boulder has some gems too.

PSUSigKap 05-04-2004 01:54 AM

the fraternity houses at penn state are pretty awesome. my favorite house is sigma pi. it's beautiful in and out!

http://www.greeks.psu.edu/ifc/

this link scrolls through pix of a bunch of the houses.

Optimist Prime 05-04-2004 05:15 AM

There's a few houses at RU that I like. Um...yeah. Beutiful brick house is nice, just like the campus. Last year was a night mare house. I love my Alma Mater, but Greek life sucks here, and the houses are shit holes.

I completely agree with the CU campus in Boulder. The original four houses (Alpha Omicron Pi, Tri Delta, Chi Omega, and Sigma Phi Epsilon) have a moat through the front yard. The three sorority houses are all tudor style houses...beautiful houses outside and in. Check them out at: http://www.coloradogreeks.com/panhel...s.php?show=map

just scroll over the houses and they pop up.

AGDee 05-04-2004 06:30 AM

The University of Michigan has some pretty amazing houses too!

http://uuis.umich.edu/greeks/fs.chapter.cfm

If you click on that link, there is info (and a picture of the house) for most of the groups.

thedeepblue 05-04-2004 07:04 AM

omg!!!! some of those houses are absolutely exquisite!! thank you for sharing the links...

does anyone happen to have pics of USC fraternities?

shadokat 05-04-2004 10:32 AM

The 2 or 3 houses that are actually on Penn's campus are nice. The others are holes. At least the ones I've seen!

Bucknell has some gorgeous fraternity houses, but I think the sororities live in dorms.

Georgia has some gorgeous sorority houses!

AchtungBaby80 05-04-2004 11:34 AM

Most beautiful fraternity/sorority houses? Certainly not at UK. :p Most of the sororities have houses in Sorority Circle, and they all look alike...Pi Phi, Kappa, and AOII are the only ones with houses that are really different.

I heard the DZ house at OU is pretty, though.

efcheerBB 05-04-2004 11:38 AM

I am quite jealous of the southern houses. They are very exquisite (spelling).

OleMissGlitter 05-04-2004 11:40 AM

Ole Miss has gorgeous fraternity and sorority houses.
All 9 NPC groups have houses that house members. The Chi Chapter of Tri Delta at Ole Miss is probably the biggest here. The fraternity houses are very well maintained as well. The Phi Delta Theta house is the newest built house, as their first house burned down about 8 years ago. Their new house is amazing. However, I would have to say all of the houses are very well kept and I know all of the sorority houses spend at least $500,000 a year to maintain their houses on the outside and inside.

KellyB369 05-04-2004 11:59 AM

Edited to remove. Someone already posted the House Pics thread. Sorry.

FAB*SpiceySpice 05-04-2004 12:14 PM

I think Mizzou has some pretty gorgeous houses...though I am definitely biased.

I've looked for pictures before but am too lazy to do it now.

However I think that Kappa Kappa Gamma, Beta Theta Pi, AXO, Alpha Kappa Lambda, and LXA/Sigma Chi (it's really Sig Chi's house but LXA lives there) have some of the most BEAUTIFUL houses I've ever seen. Beta, AKL, and LXA look like your "typical" fraternity houses with large white columns and lots of brick...I love them. And AKL is actually not TOO bad on the inside...or at least the first floor anyway. ;) The upstairs maybe not so much but that's to be expected.

Phi Kappa Theta also has a gorgeous house I think, as do DG, Chi O, and Theta. :)

thedeepblue 05-04-2004 12:32 PM

I have to change my mind... i don't think Bama has the nicest houses anymore - despite being gorgeous, SMU's beat everything i've seen so far...

if anyone has pictures of fraternity houses at USC or UCLA, i'd love to see them. the chapter's websites have next to nothing

swissmiss04 05-04-2004 12:36 PM

Most of UA's houses look the same, but the Pi Phi house is beautiful. Roll Tide!

FSUZeta 05-04-2004 01:36 PM

gotta put in a plug for my

alma mater fsu. most of the sorority houses are beautiful.and very soon the fraternities will have houses to be proud of thanks to the new greek park where most fraternities are building. also u of georgia, georgia southern, miss. state, lsu, texas, texas a & m. u of f and auburn have great fraternity houses.

to see a great picture of my sorority house, go to tallahasseezta.org and click on beta gamma chapter

IvySpice 05-04-2004 01:59 PM

Does anyone have a link to photos of the beautiful houses at Bama? I don't think I've ever seen any.

I love the Row here -- I'm sure it's not the most beautiful but there are some amazing houses and sooo much character. The pictures online don't do it justice. In particular I'm a fan of Gamma Phi, Kappa and DG for sororities, and Chi Phi (used to be a church!), Kappa Sig and Lodge for the fraternities. I love the Sigma Pi house too, although it it's nowhere near Greek Row -- it is beautiful. Having a lake in our backyards is a nice bonus too. ;) All of the houses have so much history -- there are great stories behind them.

I think Georgia and Oklahoma have some beautiful houses, as does SMU -- although for the most part, I prefer the older houses.

It is not what is on the outside that counts, but what is inside that counts! :D

I'd add the ADPi, Tri Delta and Chi O houses as being different. And except for the six pack, the fraternities are all rather unique. Well except for the new Sig Ep and Sigma Chi houses. They are "different" but similar in style. :p

Now the old Sigma Chi house was a gem!

ADPiShannan 05-04-2004 03:18 PM

does anyone have a website so we can all take a look at what youre talking about

I have pictures of all the houses (NPC) at UA.. if I only knew how to post them!

bamabelle005 05-04-2004 11:42 PM

none of the houses at bama look the same!!! each sorority and fraternity house looks completely different from every other one on campus!!!! and pi phi does have a beautiful house but their house is only a few years old (their old one was torn down due to expanding the stadium) and is much more modern in apperance whereas the other houses have been there for several decades. but if you are ever in tuscaloosa come and drive around sorority row and fratenity lane and you can see just how beautiful bama really is!!!!
