MTV Frat Life and Sorority Life

Hey I wondered if anyone knew if there were going to be anymore seasons of Frat Life or Sorority Life on MTV?

PhiMuLady150 05-02-2004 01:26 PM

I'm not sure but it was a big blow to MTV to loose the greek101.com sponsership after the last seasons of both shows. I personally would not like to see it air again.

AEPhiSierra 05-02-2004 02:50 PM

I know they filmed a local sorority in NY a while ago but the local doesn't even know if they are going to air it.

sigep533 05-02-2004 02:52 PM

i thought the show was stupid.

Tom Earp 05-02-2004 04:04 PM

Not to belittle you, but who in the hell cares!!!!!!!!!!

What have they done for the Greek Community:confused:

Well, not a danm thing, get it? Why give them pleasure of watching it and driving ratings up!

Never seen it, do not want to see it!

What do they do (?), just give Bad Light on Greeks!

33girl 05-02-2004 04:06 PM

I think the last one bored it right out of existence, and MTV is too busy filming Nick-n-Jessica to mess around with it.

AEPhiSierra, what school was this at?

BadSquirrelBeta 05-02-2004 04:18 PM

Tom...

I do agree...with no offense intended to anyone--let's move on!!

decadence 05-02-2004 04:27 PM

Does anyone know from where someone would get videos of either show?

* For those of us who were unable to see it.

I know it's neither high quality nor remotely accurate but it might be nice to watch an ep or so. Any ideas?

p.s sorry BadSquirrelBeta/Tom! just wondered this

James 05-02-2004 04:31 PM

If you watch reality TV at all . . you can't call mtv's sorority life stupid with any real credibility :)

I don't watch reality tv which is why I feel just a li'l bit superior :D

You might try looking on Ebay to see if anyone has a tape or go to mtv.com and see if they sell tapes of the show.
I did watch it occasionally. Lots of pettiness and bullshit. Definitely not representative of Greek Life at all.

BadSquirrelBeta 05-03-2004 12:46 AM

There's no reason to say sorry!

Decadence there isn't any reason to say sorry about wanting to see the show. I watched it and I have read PLEDGED. It all boils down tho to the fact that we Greeks are not represented well at all.

To be honest, I liked the first installment of SL with SAEPi at UC-Davis. By the time they got to Buffalo and USC (which happened to be my friend's own chapter), the drama factor started to bore me, and so it didn't matter if I started missing episodes. I didn't even bother watching FL at all. I simply wasn't interested.

That being said, if they bring back SL, I hope it'll have the same appeal as it did the first season.

psuAGR 05-03-2004 09:53 AM

I didn't want another season to be shown, I was just interested to see if they would try again, especially with the loss of greek101.com and all the problems they had before. Didn't mean for anyone to get the wrong idea.

No harm, no foul. I looked on mtv. com and apparently they have no plans for any more seasons at this time. I think they have been sufficiently deterred from trying again.

No need to explain yourself. Some people just have their heads up their asses and feel the need to respond rudely.

In the past two years SigmaAEPi has colonized on at least six other
campuses.

They played MTV's game and got what they wanted out of it.

Those women have my respect.

I thought they wanted to stay small??

I personally wouldn't mind seeing another season of Sorority or Fraternity Life. I find it quite entertaining. And for some sssstrange reason I'd be really interested to see a predominately Black or Latino organization on there.

new season

i'm pretty sure they filmed the newest one at SUNY - Albany... my friend (who is not greek) goes there and said they filmed some of it at a local bar

Yeah, they have a chapter at my school now (Univ. of Minnesota)...

Its kinda of funny, because my sorority and there's both use the colors blue and gold, and both call themselves "Sigmas".

Anyway, I think SL/FL is pure comedy! And if people really judge the greek community by what they see on tv, then maybe they shouldn't go greek in the first place!

shadokat 05-03-2004 02:23 PM

SL1 was a good show, but the other 2 SLs were just bad. As I've said before, SL1 was the most realistic of the three. Yeah, the girls were sorta bitchy and drank a lot and danced like sluts sometimes, but guess what, there is always a few in every chapter! If they brought us another season like SL1, I'd watch.

I have to agree with this. I did enjoy the first season. It did have MTV's trademark "edit it for the train wrecks" on it, but not as badly as the other seasons. Some of the issues that came up for the PNM's and active sisters about each other were ones that my own chapter experienced while I was an active.

But yeah... Buffalo's melodrama bored me quickly. I think I watched about half of the season before dropping out. I never saw USC or Florida... I didn't even know they made any after Buffalo!

Agreed.

Yep, they're doing it again. I'm not sure when it's going to air, but I run the website at ECU for Kappa Delta and I've had numerous emails from MTV asking us to take part in it.

Also, one of my friends who works PR for MTV said they've filmed another season of Sorority Girls, so that should be airing SOMETIME.

How can that be though (them sending your chapter direct emails)? The fine folks at MTV know of the NPC's official policy regarding SORORITY LIFE, and how each of the 26 organizations are forbidden from taking part in it.

I just find it odd that they're contacting your chapter directly.

Yep, they actually came to campus this Spring and tried to talk to all the chapters. Panhellenic of course threw a fit and everyone was forbidden to talk to them. They were really big on trying to get Tri Sigma here. It was crazy. Our campus paper covered the story I think. I'll try and find it sometime.

maybe MTV is trying to break the rules again. Hell they did 3 seasons with locals already, maybe now NPC will allow it.

No... not quite.
