E. Lynn Harris
Greetings Ladies: I am an avid reader of E. Lynn Harris' books and I just wanted to know if there was anyone else that has read his latest, Not a Day Goes By? For those who haven't read it, it is a good book. In true E. Lynn Harris fashion, at some points I was so sad for the characters, then the next minute I couldn't believe what they were doing! I don't want to spoil the book for anyone, but I just wanted to throw out my opinion. Take Care, Cookee |
I love E. Lynn Harris books and I can't wait to read the new one. Thanks for the good review!!
------------------ Peace KL |
I love E. Lynn also. When you read his books you are saying to yourself...oh my goodness I know Basil didn't just do that lol. I've read every book except his new one. I need to make my way to the bookstore because I have a few books I would like to read. Eric Jerome Dickey is also another favorite of mine.
|
I've also read all of his books. I must admit that after reading some things I always feel as if I've lived such a sheltered life. I have asked myself if I know people such as the characters. I'm amazed at the life and life-style that some have. Anyway, I look forward to reading this new book. I had no idea of his latest work.
As always, best regards to my beautiful and graceful sisters, the Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif !!!!! "06" |
Greetings to the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc, I was browsing through your board and saw this posting on E Lynn Harris's new book...I have to say that in true E Lynn Harris fashion the book was great he brought us back two two characters we just love to hate and made us feel sorry for them and just wanna pray for them...I read the book in three hours couldn't put it down ( matter of fact I read it last night and went to bed late...his characters make you think about what people go through rich and poor) I encourage everyone to go out there and support the man cause he is a wonderful writer.
P.S for those of you who love Eric Jerome Dickey he has a new one out called LIAR'S GAME and Omar Tyree has the sequel to FLY GIRL coming out (im not sure if it's out yet). HAPPY READING |
hi sisterfriends...
i am here in NYC and i went to a reading and book signing of E. Lynn Harris for his current book "Not a Day goes By" Mr. Harris is a wonderful writer. I feel as if i am a background character in his books because they are so vivid and when you read them the imagination starts working. i won't spoil the book, but all i have to say is and i hope the others will agree with me....i wanted MORE. The book was awesome and i read it in a few hours. i was mad at myself so i read it again...in another couple of hours. I was even madder because i was starving for more. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif i will say this Mr. Harris is in the works of a movie deal, for the movie Invisible Life. (i heard it from the horse's mouth, E. Lynn himself) and he has three more books to produce with Double Day. He is indeed a great, down to earth author. ps...Mr. Harris is a member of the Divine 9...when i asked him which one...he told me the best one and smiled. i still don't know. does anyone have a clue? pps....he gave the biggest shout out to the members of Delta Sigma Theta and Alpha Kappa Alpha in his dedication. Then he whispered in my ear...he his favorite ladies are the Delta's!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
Is anyone a member of Black Expressions book club? I remember someone mentioned it a while back, but didn't think too much of it until I received a membership offer in the mail recently. Sometimes the books I'm interested in aren't always available, and the black literary sections in some book stores leaves a lot to be desired.
|
Mr. Harris is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha.
I, too, enjoyed his books thoroughly! I almost peed in my clothes when the Sisterfriend said that he is in the deals for a movie for Invisible Life....I would have the 1st ticket, and 2nd and 3rd...I loved all of his books so far! Why am I the only one of my friends who keeps wishing that Raymond will "turn" straight?...LOL!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |

Greetings:
When I bought the book, I was shocked at how small it was. I, too, was left thirsting for more. I'm so excited to hear that there's a movie being made about Invisible Life! Speaking of movies, Disappearing Acts by Terry McMillan has been made into a HBO movie. I have no idea when it's coming out, but the lead actress from Love & Basketball and Wesley Snipes are the 2 lead characters. Wesley is a phenomenal actor, but I just can't quite see him as Franklin. I would love to discuss Harris' new book with anyone. There were some parts in the book that I was just too through with! AKATude, I've heard that Black Expressions is a good book club to join. Like you, sometimes I can't find the books I'm looking for in the "mainstream" bookstores. I'd love it if I could get all of them sent to me in the mail. I'm planning on joining BE. Take Care, Cookee |
Oh GODDY!
Is this book a continuation? Meaning the same characters? Thank you Sorors and SF's you have just made my summer......I love Mr. Harris! Thank you!!!!! SKeeeeee WWWWEeeeeee! Deja |

I am CTFU!!!!! He is in the FRAT. I had no idea but promise to do my home work. I have got to post on the Alpha site. "06" Sisters - - check my posting and let me know what you think [This message has been edited by Professor (edited July 26, 2000).] |
one for thing sista friends...
guess who he wants to play Basil????? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif Rick Fox! this is gonna be interesting! |
Rick Fox? Isn't that Vanessa's husband? The basketball player?
I have not gotten the book, yet. I will get it by this weekend. Everytime I read one of his books, it's like I am there! I know those characters, etc etc. I am so happy he has something new out. Regarding the movie...you know how the movies from books are...sometimes, they can be a disappointment. For example, "Stella", the book was WAY better than the movie. When the movie is made for Invisible Life, I hope that the writers do it some justice. HEY MAMAB....Sisterfriend, you know you are a trip. I bet he would have told me his favorites were the AKAs if I would have been there and so on and so forth... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif: [This message has been edited by AKA2D '91 (edited July 26, 2000).] |
SORORS AND SISTERFRIENDS... E.LYNN HARRIS will be chatting at www.bet.com on FRIDAY, JULY 28TH, at 1pm Eastern time!!!! I thought you all would want to know!!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif |
AKA@D'91....girl..you know you are right!
But throughout the book, he was naming AKA and DST and you know i was hyped. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif imagine that Rick Fox....as Basil....girls go pick up the book. |
I always pictured Basil as being a dark-skinned brother. Remember on the cover of ...And This Too Shall Pass..., I think there was the guy in the football getup...
but I see Basil being played by like... Morris Chestnut Does anyone else have who they would like the other characters, including Basil to be played by? |
I just read Not A Day Goes By and I thought that it was very good. Like some of the other posts said, it left me wanting more also. But that is what makes a great author, I can't wait until he writes the next one to see what Basil does next.
I don't know about Rick Fox playing Basil in the movie version of Invisible Life. Has he acted before? I could see Terrance Howard (light skinned brother from the Best Man) playing the part if he gained some weight and got buff to look athletic. I don't know ... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif |
That would be a possibility, too for Basil. What about the FEMALE characters...AND who would play Raymond? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif |
Morris Chestnutt defintely....
remember zurich in the book....the saved football player....i think the light skinned brother that plays the federal express delivery guy on the showtime movie soul food whould fit into his character. does anyone know his name? yancey- do you think whitney wouold do a good job playing her? |
I don't think that Whitney should play Yancey. She's too old. She could definitely play Ava. As far as Yancey is concerned, maybe Robin Givens. She seems to have a big diva attitude. Remember her character in Boomerang? Or even the female in The Best Man, who played the very bossy girlfriend character to the guy with dreads. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I don't remember her name.
|
Whitney Houston, you have GOT to be kidding.
Have you seen her lately? She looks BAD! And it's not OLD AGE, either! I was hurt she was put into Waiting to Exhale. I think it was done to make it more "appealing" to a wider audience. I don't know who I would prefer in those female roles, but Whitney NEVER entered my mind. I will keep thinking, though! |
I just finished reading "Not A Day Goes By", and I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!! I was in Chicago, and I stayed up to read it, knowing that I had to be up at the crack of dawn. The book is just that good. I don't think that Rick Fox would make a good Basil, though. I agree with AKA2D '91, Morris Chestnut should be cast as Basil.
|
whitney looks that bad huh??? since being with bobby, he was aged her a few years.
|
Hey Ladies,
Well I have just finished reading "If this world were Mine", and I must say that I am totally feeling quite sympathetic for Basil. I think he's misunderstood, and he needs help to get over the things in his past. As far as casting goes...Basil supposedly has these peircing GRAY eyes. They always talk about how light he is, and a scrumptous, tasty, delectable, fione, and sexy as Morris Chestnut is, I don't think he'd fit the part http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif I can kinda see Rick Fox, cause he has the pretty boy persona, maybe add some gray contacts, and there ya go!! I think that Stacy Dash might play a good Nicole, although she isn't as dark as they make her seem in the book. I can totally see someone like Chris Tucker playing the part of Kyle, not because Chris is feminine or anything, but b/c of how comical Kyle is in the book (Ya'll do know that Chris Tucker is my future husband!!!) Raymond...the jury's still out on that one, but if I think of something I'll let you know...well, I guess I have spoke my piece today...at least in this topic TA TA |
well i dont know about you but i think Omar Epps would play a good Raymond simply because he is gorgeous!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
|
I can't wait to get the new book. I love all of E. Lynn's books! Professor, I too have felt REAL sheltered with some of the stuff he brings up. It only made me read faster! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif onesavvydiva, you aren't the only one who is hoping that Raymond would "turn". A friend of mine at work asked Mr. Harris how she could find a straight Raymond during one of his online discussions. He got real disgusted. Can't a sistah want a man that has it going on too?!?!? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

ATTENTION ALL HARRIS FANS...ATTENTION ALL FANS!
E. LYNN'S NEW BOOK "ANY WAY THE WIND BLOWS" will be released JULY 10TH! YYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif FROM THE WEBSITE:www.randomhouse.com/features/elynnharris/index.html At the end of Not a Day Goes By, the terminally bisexual John Basil Henderson declares: "I'm back, in full form. And I'm out there. Roamin'. And switching lanes." Now, in Any Way the Wind Blows, Basil, good-looking gadabout and homme fatal, is back at the top of his game (razzle-dazzling both the women and the men). All is well until Basil's picture-perfect life starts to unravel... Left at the altar a year before, jilted Broadway bombshell Yancey Harrington Braxton stages her comeback--this time as a recording star--but has she forgiven ex-fiancé Basil, or does she still need to even the score? As Yancey's star continues to rise, her past threatens to catch up with her and she fears someone may be after her as well... In a wicked little dance of revenge, Basil and Yancey struggle to keep their lives on track, while a chorus of unforgettable characters either come to their aid, or make matters worse. In the mix are: Yancey's mother, Ava "Mama Dearest" Braxton, a diva's diva and a second-rate showgirl housed in the body of an aging supermodel; the wise and wonderful Windsor Adams; and the new guy in town, Bartholomew "Bart" Dunbar, a rogue's rogue and handsome hunk of a man who stands to make Basil look like a choirboy. With just the right amount of wickedness, love, and compassion, Harris's masterful storytelling and delicious plot twists will have fans and newcomers alike frantically turning pages trying to find the answer to the ultimate question: Does revenge ever really pay? [This message has been edited by AKA2D '91 (edited July 03, 2001).] |
