It's all about ---THE RING!

Hey what type of wedding ring do you have/want?
Pics would be great!

I have a simple gold band.....butuhrah I am waiting on a bling bling on my right:D !

littlelady93 04-29-2004 01:26 PM

Here's a question, would you settle for a small ring now if you knew you would get a bigger one later, or would you want your actual ring now? I'm wondering because the way my boyfriends buget is now, this type of ring is no where in my near future.

If I could get my ideal ring now, this is exactly what I want (now if I get it is the question). I don't think that it is too gaudy, I would love to have my wedding band set in stone to really set my ring off, then I want my engagement ring to be princess cut, I would love platinum, but I've seen some pretty white gold rings. And the caret size, I'd love 2 :D , but 1.5 is very nice too. Hopefully by the time me and my boyfriend are ready to get engaged, I'll be suprised with an amazing ring. Me and my friend were just looking at rings yesterday.

I myself settled on the small ring for several reasons...
1. cost
2. I like simplicity....one ring no more than two per hand
3. and the look
but I think that it doesn't necessarily matter what you get now because you can always upgrade...:D

SKEEphistAKAte 04-29-2004 03:51 PM

I have:
1. Platinum
2. 3/4 carat
3. Round

I want:
1. Platinum
2. No less than 1 carat (2 would be nice)
3. Princess cut

SkeeWee14 04-29-2004 04:33 PM

Honestly...

I will take a chip of GLASS on a dirty band as long as the brother hurry up and propose!!!

I really don't have too much of a preference as long as it's something that he put a lot of thought into. The only thing that I do want is for it to be either white gold or platinum. I HATE yellow gold. I've always loved the rings that had an antique look to them, but I really can care less.

I've always wondered that too, I have extremely little fingers, the promise ring I wear now always twists around my finger in the winter, and I've had it tightened as much as I could. Hopefully my wedding band will fit better. As much as I would love 1.5 or 2 carets, that may look like too much on my fingers:(

Ummmmmm hmmmmmm....

May I ask how old you all are? LOL (U don't have to answer)

aephi alum 04-29-2004 08:55 PM

I'm Jewish, and Jewish tradition holds that a wedding ring must be plain metal (gold/silver/platinum/whatever) without gems, so that the value of the ring cannot be misrepresented. I prefer white gold, my husband prefers yellow gold, so our wedding rings (which match) are yellow gold with a white gold inlaid design.

My engagement ring is a classic Tiffany-cut diamond in a platinum band. It's relatively small, but it looks right on me since I have long narrow fingers. A few people told me I could have it re-set as a side stone in a 10th or 20th anniversary band  but you know what... it's my engagement ring the way it is now. Mr. aephi alum will just have to buy me a really nice pair of earrings for our anniversary. ;)

 lol. I'm 22, but have no intentions of getting married anytime soon. Hopefully around 26 or 27, I want to have my masters and be financially secure and of course ready.

Don't be broadcasting it all over the 'net, surprise her. Doesn't she peep in from time to time? :p

Ideal08 04-30-2004 07:06 AM

I'd be happy with a simple, white gold or platinum band. I used to want a 2ct rock, but it's just not important to me anymore, for a number of reasons.

MY RING!

Well, I got engaged in December. My fiance proposed with a Blue and White RING POP. (He is a Sigma/Me-Zeta). We were away on vacation and the mood was right---he knew he wanted to propose soon, but hadn't bought the ring yet. On Valentines Day he presented me with my REAL engagement ring. It is a 1 carat brilliant cut diamond with a diamond and sapphire on the left side and then on the right. A total of five stones. Five for my founders. 3 diamonds----3 for his founders. We met at Blue and White Weekend in Gainesville, FL. I love my ring! It looks gigantic on my finger because I have very small hands with thin fingers.

This is so cute and sweet it makes me sick! :p For real, though, that's special. I'ma live vicariously through you today.

But what I really want to know is... did you keep the Ring Pop for sentimental value or did you eat it? :)

rezilient 04-30-2004 10:33 AM

ATE IT UP!!

Girl, I ate that ring so fast!! It brought back old memories.....I hadn't had/or seen a ring pop since I was about 8 years old!! Now, 24. Since we are talking about engagement rings......anyone have any advice on how to plan an international wedding. Ours will be in Africa June 2005. Most of my family is over there, but my bridal party is here in the states with teh exception of 1 bridesmaid and two flower girls who are in Africa , his groomsmen are here, but two are in Europe (2 different countries). I am concerened with having matching tuxes and the other bridesmaid. Anyone been in this situation before?

I wanted a 2 ct until I actually tried one on in the store. My hands are tiny and it just looked fake. :(

Plus, the work I'll be doing will not be good to my hands at ALL.

WenD08 04-30-2004 12:31 PM

i'm not sure about the ring. i'm looking at at least 1 ct. w/perhaps a platinum/gold band. i'm hoping to not have the Sex and the City scenario where Carrie hated Aidan's original ring (he cleaned up well though, w/the Harry Winston ring). i would like to be in on the planning in order to prevent any embarassing surprises:eek: and disappointment on the other side:confused:

I married Hubby 2 years ago and when he proposed, all he could afford was a ruby ring with diamond chips. (Ruby is my birthstone and he proposed on my birthday :D) At the time he was almost unemployed (the place where he used to work had just laid him off due to cuts and his last day was like a month away and he had not found another job) When we married, all we could afford were gold bands from Wally World but he has promised me that when we celebrate our 5th, he would get me some bling. I really don't care if I don't get the bling then just as long as I get it at some point in our marriage. My parents have been married for 29 years and my mom didn't get any bling from daddy until like maybe 10 years ago, so it's all cool with me.

oneinamillion 04-30-2004 05:39 PM

3 carat platinum

Savatar 04-30-2004 07:50 PM

I almost got the ring that I really wanted. I wanted a white gold ring with a princess cut stone. I didn't want a diamond. I wanted a blue stone.

I received a white gold ring with an aquamarine (I originally thought it was topaz...silly me) that had a trilliant cut. I had never heard of trilliant cut before. I went online and saw lots of triangles, so I figured the jeweller didn't jack up my ring.

I was quite happy.

Conskeeted7 05-07-2004 08:46 AM

When we picked out my engagement ring and bands, I really thought that a small ring would look best on my hand because of my long, slim fingers. So, we went with a classic, round style.

But my hubby persisted and got me to try on some other, flashy looking rings. I was surprised that they actually don't look nearly as flamboyant on my hand. So, in a few months we're going to trade up to a 1.5 carat marquise at Kay. I don't know how to post pics, but it's on the website.

A salesperson at Bailey's Banks and Biddles (I think that is the name of it) jewelry store once told me that you should always get a ring that looks too big on your hand the first time you try it on. After a while, your eyes adjust to it and it appears smaller! ;)

I know this is true for me. I thought my 1.2 carat ring was HUGE when my husband got it for me, now it's just a regular size. We've discussed upgrading rings, and although I would like a bigger, sparkler (is that right??) diamond, after reading all of the stuff about the diamon mines in Africa I can't in good conscience buy another diamond. I have been seriously thinking about getting a "moissanite" or something like it though. I just need to do some more research. I'm not talking about c.z. you can buy in a regular store, but one of those serious man made diamond that frequently cannot be detected as not "real" with a jeweler's eye-thingie and are hard enough to cut glass, just like a diamond. I'll stick with my little one carat if it looks fake though, even though knowing me I will tell people that it ain't no real diamond! LOL

Question for the ladies: What would you say if your man bought you one of those? Keep in mind that a 2 carat flawless diamond can cost at least $15K, while one of these man made diamonds of same quality (colorless, no inclusions) could be around $1 or 2K or less.

It's probably not wise to tempt fate, since I've only been dating my boyfriend for three months...but when I was young, I saw a plain gold ring (I'm also Jewish) with a Biblical inscription in Hebrew written on the inside, where it is always touching you. And I immediately knew that I would love to have a ring like that inscribed with my favorite verse from the Song of Solomon: This is my beloved and this is my friend.

NinjaPoodle 05-23-2007 02:19 PM

ttt:) Since June is right around the corner..

Good Topic

When I was engaged my husband got me a 1/2 carat 3 stone ring from Friedmans with some of his refund check from school. It was small and we upgraded to a 1 carat round cut. However I lost the enagement ring and we had to replace it, with another 1 carat which I helped pay for since I lost the ring.

You know what though as materialistic as I can be I don't care really about a ring, I wear my wedding ring somedays and somedays I change it out with a CZ I got from homeshopping (yes I did and I dare you to know which one is real, no shame in my game). Since I coached softball for years I would often not wear my ring or wear the CZ so I switch out of habit.

If he loves you and you love him a piece of foil wont matter becuase as I have learned the size of my rings has never helped my marriage, hard work and dedication has.

My rings

http://zales.imageg.net/graphics/pro...221790t240.jpg

this is my ring set:D...we got hitched in 2004. I wasn't a fan of the round stones (always like emerald cut) but when I tried it on it looked so nice like it belonged there. I feel naked if I am out w/ out them but will take them off as soon as I get home if I am in for the rest of the day.

This is his

http://zales.imageg.net/graphics/pro...218709t240.jpg he wanted a little bling in his which I found funny since he doesn't wear any jewelry. But he loves it!
