ADPi Pets

Just wondered who has pets and what kinds are they and their names. I am a HUGE animal lover....

I have a dog, hes a toy fox terrier, 2 yrs old, named Spike, hes a character

I also have two cats one is all black named Sly, I got him when I lived on campus, someone had a litter of kittens and I couldnt let him live on the streets so I brought him into my dorm and hid him from the RA till we moved out.

I also just got a kitten in end of March, hes black and white, named Sammy. Hes a ball of energy and gets into trouble.

I love all 3 of them so much. I want to move south and buy serveral acres of land like 10+acres so I can have cats outside. My grandparents live on a farm and always have like 5 cats lol....

Ill have to dig up my pet pictures :)

honeychile 04-26-2004 11:56 PM

You should live with my brother & sister-in-law!! They have a farm-ette (35 acres), 3 horses, 2 cats, 2 Dobermans, and whatever is left in their lane each week! Both of them should have been vets, or something like that - it's amazing what they will do for their animals - My brother used to handfeed a geriatric lizard who couldn't put his tongue out! Oh, they sold off their cash crop - several pythons, boas, and other snakes. blech.

My mama has a bichon frise, "Mr. Buff" who we call Buffy. He was rescued from a puppy mill - he was the stud, and is just a bundle of love! I would LOVE to see some of his puppies!!

I don't have a pet - I babysit Buffy enough to consider partial ownership! - because I'm allergic to most cats & dogs. But since bichons have hair, not fur, I can handle them! I've had several cats over the years, and I can't pass up a cat without chin-chucking him or her!

skerbow 04-27-2004 12:53 AM

I have a 10 year old Boston Terrier. He is a ball of energy!! :) His name is Geronimo and I have had him since he was 8 weeks old. :)

nauadpi 04-27-2004 05:18 AM

I have two 9 year old cats. Male black and white named F. Scott... and a Calico female (surprise of surprises since trying to find a calico male is near impossible and it would be starrel) named Zelda.. these two live with my parents still but that may change if I move back to ca... and then I have my 2 year old cat would is a long haired orange male named Fluffball...

I also had a dog that was part golden part lab and part something else... but he passed away this year...

I love animals so much! I would have tons of them if I could. Right now, I have two dogs. I have a female black & white parti cocker spaniel named Reagan. She's my baby. I rescued her from a puppy mill, where she was really mistreated. I also have a weimaraner named Jake. He just turned a year old and he's so hyper!

I've also fostered a kitten (Mookie) and two baby squirrels (Rocky and Bullwinkle), but they've moved on to permanent homes now.

ASUADPi 04-27-2004 10:45 AM

Okay, we (my parents, brother and I) live in a single story home about 1800 square feet and we have the following:

4 dogs

A pure bred siberian husky (my brother Erik's dog) name Ash
A siberian husky/german shepard mix
A pure bred (we think, no papers though) doberman
A pure bred (again we think) foxhound

The husky's are boys (no fixed yet, lord have mercy on us :) ) and the other two are girls (fixed, thank god).

3 cats

I'm not sure what types they are though.

Gracie: a gray cat with a punched in face (LOL)
Spot/tweeter (depends on who you are what this cats name is): she's a mix, not sure the type
Eric (affectionately called 'little shit'): this is our newest cat and he is still a kitten. The humane society named him Eric but we can't call him that b/c my brothers name is Erik. So b/c he is still a kitten and into everything we call him little shit. LOL.

At one point we used to have fish, a turtle, a lizard and a ferret. But not anymore.

TN-TX ADPi 04-27-2004 11:11 AM

I have a 9 year old cat named Wrangler- he weighs in at about 20 pounds. He lives with my parent's since I didn't want to haul my cat 13 hours across the country when I moved. Plus, my dad wouldn't let him go!
I have a blue heeler pupply waiting on me in Tennessee when I go home in 2 weeks. I think he will be flying back to Texas with me- he will be 8 weeks old by the time I get him. Not sure what his name will be yet.
I, too, LOVE animals and would have a ton if I could.

That is so funny about "little shit"-- we have a kitten (8months old) at my parent's house named "crooked head" Our neighbor had a barn cat that had kittens- and one of the horses stepped on one of the kittens. The neighbor wanted to kill the kitten, cause he didn't think it would live, but my mom "rescued" it. His head and neck are permanently cocked to one side. It is so funny to watch him walk and look at you. But he's the sweetest thing and has no apparent problems!

My brother had flying squirrels! He called them Boris & Bullwinkle.

His animals are named Pele, Shalom, Elijah (the horses), Shiloh & Shana (Dobies), and Naomi & Misha (current cats that I know of). If you notice the trend, you'll appreciate the name of their farm: Maranatha Farm! :)

ADqtPiMel 04-27-2004 11:53 AM

My kitty lives at my parents' house. He is white with orange spots and his name is Mussolini. (Yes, like the dictator. It's a very long story.)

I have a fishy at school and her name is Eugenia Tucker Fishgerald. :D

polarpi 04-27-2004 01:03 PM

Okay, at my house we have:

Milo, the Jack Russel terrier with a serious chip on his shoulder when it comes to other animals. He's four years old and is such a sweet dog when there's no other animals around, but he has us in stiches with all his antics :D

Maxwell, the approximately 2 year old puppy we brought home from the Humane Society the day after Christmas (he was supposed to be a present for my grandparents, but my grandmother said no  ). Maxwell is MY dog, and he's so lovable and just wants to play with everyone, even Milo, who tries to bite him whenever Max gets close enough to the fence (we have to have Max as an outside dog, but our neighbor loves to watch him play in the yard...he's like a large pogo stick! He's a black lab/retriever/possibly chow mix.

Callie, our (I think) 11 year old calico cat who is Miss Personality Plus. She had to have two hysterectomies in one year, and she absolutely hates all men, and tolerates most women. She's only really affectionate with me, my mom, and my stepdad. She lives in the laundry room, and enjoys having her roam of the room :)

If I could, I'd have a ton of animals myself. When I get my own place and get married, the SO better love animals just as much as I do ;)

Adelphean 04-27-2004 01:08 PM

I have a dog named Sadie. She's a Springer Spaniel/English Setter mix. I have two cats, Ruby and Buster, who fight ALL the time. I also have a Rat (a real one, in a cage) named Patrick Swayze. We also have a/b a million fish, and a turtle named Franklin.

We're running a pet store at my house these days.

GreekLetterGirl 04-27-2004 10:27 PM

I am a new pet owner. I have gotten my pets from the Animal Rescue League. I got them when I moved out of my mom and dad's this past summer. Though the one cat is "my sisters' and lives at my parents they are both under my name.

My cats names are Kali who is my 8 month old callico cat. She's a spit fire, who I got when she was 5 weeks old, has had a bout with pnemonia reactions to her shots, and was a runt ( 1.5 lbs when I got her) she's so cute, and full of personality and love when she wants to be.

Lilo is our smushy faced gray cat, whos' about 1 year old. She's scared of everything and is lovely though. She lives at my mom and dads.

Kali wears a blue collar.

I love my meowsers.

texas*princess 04-27-2004 11:27 PM

Since I live in the house, I can't have more than "small bowl fish" as pets for now.

I have 2 bettas, Delta, which is an all-white betta, and Gamma who is a deep turquoise blue. I've had both for over a year now :)

When I move out of the house I definitely plan on getting a puppy!

EXiADPi 04-28-2004 04:13 AM

At my parents house in Tucson we have two cats one male one female.

The male is a black tub of lard called Bob. Don't know how old he is but we got him from church 9 years ago. My dad calls him lazyboy and worthless boy because all he does is sleep and roll in the dirt.

My girl kitty was my mom's birthday present like 5 years ago. Her name is Mollie but we affectionately call her Satan, meth, or b**** kitty. Mollie is every color a kitty could be including a red patch on her head and back such as why I call her Satan kitty plus she is pure evil.

My kitties are outside kitties so they hunt for rabbits, rodents, and squirels. I love the little presents they bring me and they like to play with rattlesnakes, bobcats, and mountain lions.

New puppy!

I have wanted a puppy for so long since I moved away from my parents and I am finally gettin one in June. It is a little peke-a-poo from a woman I know. I am going to look at him in a week or so and he will be eight weeks old when I pick him up in June. I am so excited!:)

adpi1030787 04-30-2004 04:02 AM

We have a yellow lab/ golden retriever mix. He is about 5 years old. He is named Maguire because he was born the day Mark Maguire broke the homerun record. He is sooo sweet and very protective of us. If you even pretend to hit someone he will pull your hand off, but if someone broke in he would lick them to death until they tried to hurt one of us.

My sister has a cat named Timbo. Her ex-boyfriend gave him to her after hers died. (His name was Tim and hers is Brooke, hince Timbo) He is mean to me, because I am the one who lets Maguire out in the morning and my sister doesn't want to let him out here since we just moved not long ago. She is afraid he will get lost, and he just thinks I am a meany, because I won't let him go out. Any other time, he is pretty sweet though.

I want a Tea -Cup Yorkie. Hopefully, I am going to get one as soon as I get a job (which should be soon). I want to name him Someee (Sophrina, Octavia, Mary, Eugenia, Elizabeth, Ella). My neighbor breeds them. She said she should have a litter sometime in September. That reminds me, I need to talk to her about it.

This is my kitty Tiger. He is 13 months old. He thinks he is a dog though, because he likes to play fetch. The picture is of him running up our stairs, carrying his toy ghost in his mouth to bring back to us!
He is a WONDERFUL kitty! :)

Adelphean 04-30-2004 04:37 PM

Ahhhhhh! His face looks EXACTLY like my cat Buster.... EXACTLY!:)

scho5148 03-15-2005 07:34 PM

I have a 2 year old Yorkie named Cheyenne. She is our little baby! She enjoys car rides and traveling, and loves our Association picnics in the summer where she can play with other ADPi dogs. (If I ever get another dog, I would definitely like to name her something related to ADPi.)

I knew I would always end up with a Yorkie b/c my Mom, Aunt, and cousin all own one.

BTW, does anyone know where I can get pet gear that can be personalized with greek stuff? :-) Greekgear.com only has a collar and bandana.

honeychile 03-15-2005 11:19 PM

Y'all have heard me mention Pam (and some of y'all have met her!), one of my best ADPi friends. She always has two Samoyeds, beautiful, beautiful dogs! The elder, Icee, has won four Agility ribbons, and is up for another competition, while the younger (Crystal) is still learning. She stopped into my office yesterday, and our Buffy was there. Buffy usually barks his head off (why is it that little dogs have to pop wheelies when they bark?!), but he took to Pam in seconds! If she had stayed much longer, I think he would have been in her lap - which is a good thing, as she was wearing a beautiful outfit that didn't need white dog hair on it!

ladypi 03-16-2005 11:08 AM

This thread is perfect for me because I absolutely LOVE dogs, especially pound puppies!!! I can only handle one for now but I can't wait to get another one some day. Her name is Charlotte and she's two years old. She is like my little child since I don't have any real children yet! And her best friend is my roommate's ADPi dog named Princess!

I have 2 dachshund puppies, 1 that's a year old, Tucker, and 1 that's 3 and 1/2 months old, Bailey, both boys. I'm going to try to get a picture of them to put up here since I can't help but show them off! They're my babies! LoL

CougADPi 03-16-2005 01:27 PM

I have a guinea pig :) My husband and I lived in an apartment that didn't allow pets. We got her anyway. We are looking at getting a dog or a cat once we get a bigger place.

I posted last year about my animals, so I thought I would finally post pictures...

Here is F. Scott.. He is 10 years old... He still ends up living with my folks, because he is so stuborn...

http://www.astrosquirrelbait.net/images/fscott.jpg

Here is Zelda... She is also 10 years old and F. Scotts sister... She thinks she is queen of everything... She too still lives with my folks

http://www.astrosquirrelbait.net/images/zelda.jpg

If you haven't guessed, F. Scott and Zelda were named after F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald... I have a thing for writers of that period... My dog before he passed away was named Hemingway...

And last, but not least is my baby, 3 and a half year old, Fluffball... He got his name because when we got him all he was was hair... We kept saying that we need to name that Fluffball... and well the name stuck...

http://www.astrosquirrelbait.net/images/fluffball.jpg

It is funny.. In the picture he is laying on a rug that is ment to look like a lion...

So yes, those animals are my life... I would get a dog, but I am still living in an apartment so right now it would not work out the best...

TechADPI 03-18-2005 04:24 PM

ASU- That's funny.... my brothers roomate 3 years ago had a cat that we called 'little shit' too!(Of course she was never around when we called her cat that! lol)

I have a 3 yr old, 22 lb cat named Traylor.
I went to the vet this year to see why he was so big, we thought he was overwieght, but the doctor told me it was because of his breed. He's a Main Coon. When they're full grown, they can stand on their back legs, and see over a table top! (My sister-in-law calls him Puppycat) He is the sweetest cat too! :D

FirstAndFinest 03-23-2005 10:41 AM

OMG, Nauadpi! My "EddieBoy" has the same face as your F. Scott!

I have 3 cats:
-Misu ("mee sue"), a 12 YR old Calico I adopted in college. She was named by my then-boyfriend... She's quite fat these days, but she was once the huntress!! Now she mostly sleeps and eats - and spits at the 2 kittens we adopted from a rescue group around Christmastime.

- EddieBoy, a black & white shorthair. VERY dog-like, follows my hubby around all day!

- Natalie, a sleek, all-black shorthair. She was from a ferral litter and hides all day under a bed. She comes out when my husband is not home or asleep. (She was fostered by an alum in my town!)

Speaking of "Crooked Head"...
Our family cat, Freddie, was 18 years old when we had to put him down. He was the best kitty ever! :( He had a crooked head from some unknown seizure he had as a kitten. One day he was sceaming in the garage, paralyzed! He recovered, but his head was always on an angle.

LOL

My parents have a beautiful white cat they named P.I.T.A.
She is such a diva. She thinks she owns it all!

She probably thinks she's named after the magically delicious pitas, but alas, it is an acronym for Pain In The A:eek: :o :p

I wasn't going to mention this, but... when I was in high school, I had a black cat named Sharley. Just prior to his becoming neutered, someone shot him - in the eye. He lived, but the pupil of his eye pulled into the hole in the corner of his eye, leaving him very crossed-eyed. So, Sharley couldn't get neutered, and was quite the lover - in fact, I still see kittens that look shockingly like him!

The funny part is, neighbors once called my mother & said to "get that pirate cat out here!" We never knew that the sweet kitty we had was known as "the pirate cat" because of his eye!

adpiucf 04-04-2005 05:05 PM

New dog owner to be!

I have my breeder selected, and I will be getting a female American cocker spaniel. (Disclaimer: I admire those who rescue their pets, but I've decided to go the breeder route, and yes, she will be spayed as soon as she's mature enough).

Any advice on initial pet supplies? I grew up with dogs, cats, hamsters, fish and horses, and I've been dog-sitting and dog-walking since I was in college. I do want to crate-train her; any tips?

Also, I plan to be home a lot, but I want to look at doggie day care for the first year-- I just hate the idea of puppy sitting at home alone-- I don't want to sequester her in one small area just because I'm not there (but I don't want my home to be eaten up, either). Has anyone taken their dog to these places? What does it cost?

Thanks! Looks like the move may happen early this summer!

scho5148 04-04-2005 05:17 PM

I have taken my Yorkie to doggie day care before. She loves it b/c she gets to be around other dogs and it gets all of her energy out. Sometimes I board her there overnight for weekend getaways. I would recommend doing some research for the best ones in your area and asking for recommendations from friends. In the Denver area, day care costs about $20-25/day. Doggie daycare isn't for everyone, but it is definitely worth looking into.

At her daycare, they have an enclosed outdoor area (w/wading pool) that they play in a few times a day; the big dogs are usually separated by the smaller dogs, but it depends on their personalities too. The staff is really friendly, which helps me to be more comfortable leaving her with "strangers". Eventually they are no longer strangers. Some daycares are more elaborate than others and of course they will usually cost more.

BTW, I would definitely recommend puppy training! It helps to socialize the dog and you learn many techniques for training and raising your dog.

Best of luck and enjoy!

texas*princess 06-25-2005 02:57 PM

Hey everyone!

I know it's been awhile! I got the cutest puppy in the world and I wanted to share her pic with ya'll!

Her name is Violet & she's a Lhasa Apso.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...rl/violet1.jpg

Who could possibly say "no" to a face like that?

FirstAndFinest 06-25-2005 04:21 PM

T*P - she's ADORABLE!!!! And, what ADPi wouldn't love that name! ;)

honeychile 06-25-2005 08:34 PM

O.Mi.Gosh! Violet is soooooo beautiful!!! What a lovable face!!! Maybe someday she could have a playdate with Buffy? :)

As for doggie daycare, we always take Buffy to Happy Tails when we're in DC. Happy Tails is a franchise, in several cities. They do an evaluation first, then he can stay by the day, half day, or be boarded - the costs depend on how often they're boarded. They separate the dogs according to size & activity level, and they all need to be neutered after seven months. We did a full examination of the premises, and it really does look clean and happy. The biggest problem is how tired Buffy is after a full day - I think he should be with the sedentary dogs, not the active ones, but that's my only complaint!

While I'm thinking about it, when I had Buffy's tag made, I put BUFFY - REWARD and then a couple telephone numbers. I read about that in Dog Fancy (the Reward part).

Jennie showed me that too at convention. I just bought a new puppy, Shelby, and she said I could get one for Shelby. But then I wouldn't want to leave Dalon (my foxhound) out so I would have to get one for both of them. But since I spent a bit more than I should have at convention I really couldn't afford the dog collars. At least once I have more money I can just buy them online. ;)

texas*princess 06-28-2005 01:17 AM

hc - we could definitely do a playdate someday! I know Violet would love it! She's a fiesty little gal and always wants to play!

I just updated her puppy page on Dogster with more pics. I'm such a huge nerd when it comes to my puppy!

That Happy Tails place looks like a super fun place for dogs! I wish there was something like that in my area.

... and those ADPi collars sound entirely too CUTE!!! Are they one of those "Convention-only" type items right now? I can't see what they look like on the giftmart website.

Maybe Fido will tear it off and chew it up.

(sorry - yanks fans, here. PLAM)

For some reason, she likes to jump inside the bath tub? I'm not really sure why!
