For all the Glasses wearers...
Someone please help me. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif I just started wearing glasses about 2 years ago. Didn't want to in the first place, but anyway. Now, I am getting little marks on my nose from my glasses. Needless to say, I am most unhappy about this whole ordeal. I don't appreciate it in the least. What can I do to get rid of these marks and to prevent them from returning? Will cocoa butter work? Has anyone heard anything about, um, certain male bodily fluids helping clear up the skin? (Not saying I would try it, that was just someone's suggestion, lol)
Please help me, it's really bothering, me, lol. |
You're glasses are not fitting properly. You would want to get them adjusted.
I guess cocoa butter would do the trick. I don't really have any suggestions. |

I have been wearing glasses for over a year. I also got those marks on my nose. The spots were red all the time and NOTHING I did got rid of them until I got contacts. They cleared up about 2weeks after I stopped wearing my glasses. |
Try cocoa butter but also go to the place you got your glasses from and get them adjusted. You may need a new pair of nose pads but not glasses.

I would probably try cocoa butter and an alpha hydroxy lotion (if you skin can take it) to speed up the turn over of the skin on your nose and encourage the marks to fade (but I would do my whole face so as not to cause my nose to shed too much faster than the rest of my face) |
Man, I love yall. All of yall. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to try the cocoa butter and the alpha hydroxy lotion (maybe, what is this actually for?). I'm also gonna go get my glasses adjusted.
Thanks again!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
one more solution...
i've been wearing glasses all my life and as long as you continue to wear glasses those little marks will forever be there and never go away. the marks are from heavy glasses and sweat. you have to constantly clean that little nose guard because it is plastic and sinks dirt and oil into your nose. if you don't have to wear glasses all the time don't because then your vision will depend on them. also switch up between contacts and glasses. i hope this helps...cocoa butter helps but as long as you keep putting your glasses back in the same spot it will never go away. |

I used to say that SAME ya ya. I'm nearsighted as well. Girl, you don't even think about it when you put the lenses in. YOu JUST DO IT! All you have to do is make like a regimen. When you brush your teeth, rinse your hands, take the lenses out of the dispenser/solution, put them in, rinse your hands AGAIN, do your hair, make-up or whatever. When you return from "out", go to the bathroom, rinse your hands, put the solution in the dispenser, take out the lenses, wash your hands....AND PRESTO, you're through. Simple as that! You don't feel 'em, unless they are OLD, something foreign is on them, have torn, or are dry. Step into the new millenniumnum...lol. Get those Contacts. You'll be glad you did! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |

Ok, ok, but for real, though. Thanks for the encouragement, b/c I was making excuses. I guess I have to consider it. Because I'm really not feeling these marks at all. And I know peeps are like, dang, is it that deep? YES! I used to pride myself on my beautiful complexion, and these dang-on marks are jacking it UP! LOL! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif Oh, Regulator, one mo' thang, no you DIDN'T tell me to step into the new millennium!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif LMAO!!! Forget you, soror, FORGET YOU!! LMAO! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
I didn't say millennium.
I said MILLENNIUMNUM! Get it scrait! There is a difference LOL! Shucks, you need to! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |

I would echo all of the same suggestions to you as well. It is true the marks never go away as long as you wear glasses! Uugghh!
I would suggest strongly that you get contacts. I too was scared, so much so that I did not try contacts until 2 years ago, I was 28 then. I had been wearing glasses since I was in 7th grade, so my fear ran deep. I will say that putting those things in took some getting used to. But I got the hang of it in no time. I made sure I got disposables becuz I am truly lazy when it comes to that kind of stuff. After a few weeks, I would get rid of them and pop in new ones. Good luck! |
Don't be distressed Ideal08,
I have been wearing glasses all my life too and have also struggled with the nose marks. I suggest that you change your nose pads every couple of months, because like someone said previously they do trap dirt, oil and makeup. Also try the small round nose pads as opposed to the oval or pear shaped ones that glasses normally come with. They tend not to make as big of a mark as the other ones. And in addition to cocoa butter, pure vitamin E oil works wonders on all blemishes and skin discolorations, I swear by it http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif. Not wearing your glasses all the time is really a good idea. Not only because it helps with the marks that are made but your eyes aren't too dependent on them as well. Hope my little tid bit helped http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
Ideal08, a good adjustment for glasses is worth it. When I started college, I had badly adjusted glasses and didn't speak up.
Almost 20 years later, I've got a keloid scar on the back of my ear. I also understand your contact lens fears. When I was 16, my eye doctor put them in and I nearly jumped out of his chair. Eventually, I got sick of wearing super-thick glasses (uncorrected vision is 20-200). So I started contacts. I used a lot of drops, but my eyes got used to them. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |
I recently had to start wearing glasses and I also pride myself about my complexion. I have tried to wear contacts and it is a reflex action that I can not put them in my eyes. I have considered Laser surgery but I am afraid of the risk. Have you thought about it? Do you know anyone who has gotten the procedure done?

It's cheaper here. I've heard it's about $650 an eye. These places are opping up all over town and it's kind of scary. Soon it'll be "you want fries with that?"
|
Ya know, I heard that with the surgery it is not a "cure" for a lifetime. It is only a temporary fix. I can't remember if it only "lasts" a few months or years, but it is not lifelong.
Is there a difference between the Lasik and the RF (something another) surgeries? If there is, I can't remember which one of the procedures the person was speaking about. When I heard that above information I was like Hell naw. It's not worth it if it's NOT permanent. |
I also have been wearing glasses for about 8 years now and don't have that problem, but like you, Ideal08, I don't need them everyday so I do without my glasses on some days.
Maybe the reason why I don't have the marks is b/c I use plastic frames - the frames that come without the nose pads. Probably that makes a difference. ------------------ "No one is so generous as he who has nothing to give." |
Ideal08 -
I have been wearing glasses since I was 7 years old - and I have no marks. IMHO, there are two keys to avoiding them: 1) Make sure that your frames fit and are adusted properly. (They should not hurt or be at all uncomfortable.) 2) Get the lightest-weight plastic lenses available in your prescription. Trust me - it makes a difference. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/cool.gif ------------------ IotaNet Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. Ok, y'all are not going to believe this.
I open my check today, and there is all this paper in there. So I read the stuff. THESE BASTARDS HAVE CANCELLED OUR VISION (& DENTAL) INSURANCE!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif Now, can you EVEN believe that mess?? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif I always talk about the perks of being a contractor/consultant. This is one of the downfalls of the mess. I have NEVER worked for a company where my benefits were based on the use of said benefits by other employees. The letter said that based on the feedback study conducted (in which I did NOT participate, nor know anything about), no one used these benefits. WTF?! SO WHAT!!! If I want to pay for it and not use it, that's MY business!!! I mean, there has to be some type of compensation for this. And the amount of money that I am saving per pay is almost unseen. A whopping $13. Naw, something has to be done about this. I need to start a new thread. BRB. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif |
I don't have dental and or vision insurance, either, per se. Now, our union does provide us with "benefits", if you will.
Vision We can go to a certain place and the union gives us a $50 stipend towards our frames. I think the same thing is pretty similar for the dental part. I know you can get your teeth cleaned for free. I use the vision benefit, but I do the dental thingy for FREE...one of my Sorors I brought in is a Dentist. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif When she was a student, she came down here to do an internship at a local hospital. During those weeks, she lived with me. I knew I needed my remaining wisdom teeth removed. She took those bad boys out...NO CHARGE. You have to use your RESOURCES! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif Never burn your bridges, you just may never know when http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif [This message has been edited by AKA2D '91 (edited August 01, 2001).] [This message has been edited by AKA2D '91 (edited August 01, 2001).] |
AKA2D'91 & Lovely,
I had Laser surgery/Lasik about a year ago. It was the best thing I've ever done (outside of marrying my husband). I went from about 20/500 to 20/15 literally overnight. I paid about $1250, it was worth every penny. The surgery does last forever for distance vision, but, just like everyone else who has "naturally" good vision, people who have had laser surgery may need reading glasses as they get older--it has something to do with the elasticity of the eye muscles as we age. Lovely, if you have any questions about where I had it done, etc., email me and I'll give you the lowdown. [This message has been edited by Legal Diva (edited August 01, 2001).] |
This topic caught my eye ( http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif) right away!! Everyone in my house (me, mom, dad, 2 sisters) and my boyfriend (until now http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif )wears glasses/contacts. My boyfriend had laser surgery about three months ago and he LOVES it!!! I am so envious of him http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif!! Although it does seem like a big output of money, think about the money saved in the long run (new lenses every two/three years, new frames, contact lens solution, etc...) If I had the money I would go for it http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
P.S. You would definitely have to talk to your doctor just to make sure you're a good candidate, but I'm sure you already knew that http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif [This message has been edited by princessbee21 (edited August 01, 2001).] [This message has been edited by princessbee21 (edited August 01, 2001).] |
