This is a TOTAL emergency situation-- Please read!!!!!!!
Hey everyone. I hope you read this and can give me some insight. My sorority sisters and I were on the way to our weekly chapter meeting on campus ( we dont have greek housing here), and as we walked across campus, we almost died. Right there, in the middle of campus was a banner that said "Have a Happy Founder's Day Tri-Pigs... fff" As we proceeded across campus we spotted another huge banner draped over the trees-- big as day. THEN we get to the building our meetings are in, and they had spraypainted the same stuff ALL over the building. Since damage was done to school property, the police are involved now, but still, we will get NO justice from that. Everyone who walked on campus today and yesterday SAW all of that. My sisters are all so down, and as much as we push the whole "screw them, hold your head up high", deep inside, we all will remember this day and it has really done something horrible to our hearts. Does anyone know any in these last 2 weeks of school that we can come together somehow on campus and "nonchalantly" show that we are better than that and that we dont care?? Please help, I would LOVE your input. Thanks so much.

That is awful. I am very sorry that you have to go through that. It always seems like someone has to ruin everyones spirits. I am very sorry for all of you girls. My advice to you would try to rally all your sisters. I know it will be tough since they are down and not very excited, but someone needs to get them to see that by all of you going onto campus as a united front that it will be easier for you to brush this terrible incident off. You need to show your sorority spirit more than ever. I know itll be hard, but you have to in order to come out on top. Do not stoop to whoevers level it was that did that, but rather show how strong, awesome sisters you are. Go onto campus wearing your letters all over smiling, laughing, forgetting what happened. It was a stupid idiot who did it and someone who doesnt know anything, so forget them. Of course it hurts, but dont worry about what someone else says, worry about how awesome you all are and how you will get through this as long as your remain strong sisters that you are. Show them that you are #1 and nothing like that can bother you. If it does, dont let it show. Let it show when you are all together but on campus focus on letting them see it didnt bother you and you dont care. That way they know they didnt get to you and they will be so mad for that. Sorority spirit is key Id say. Showing you came out on top and dont care about that. Good Luck and I know you all can do it. It is just going to be a hard 2 weeks.

Here's my suggestion. Everyday this week wear your letters - everyone. Make it known that you are PROUD to wear those letters! Make sure to also wear your pin one day. Sit together at lunch and at dinner and forget about everyone else. I would also get with your campus greek advisor and tell him/her that you need to have a mandatory/emergency panhellenic/IFC meeting to discuss what happened. All chapter presidents should be involved as well. Find out what happened and, if it was another greek organization, they should be punished - but let the law/school deal with it. Good luck with everything and remember that you are a member of a great greek organization and you should be proud to wear your letters so go put them on! :D
|
WOW! That's awful and I'm so sorry it happened to you.
Like the other ladies have said, be sure and wear your letters everyday. You're proud to be Sigmas and these jerks are obviously jealous of that. Let the school/law take care of it, and just show the campus that you're proud of your sisterhood and aren't going to let these morons ruin the end of the school year for you. |
I agree, wear your letters EVERYDAY! have a day where you all dress up and wear your badges, have a candle-light walk through campus in protest of what has went on! Contact other local chapters in NC and have them come support you. Contact your nationals, have them get involved with the school- they will stand behind you.
I am so sorry this happened to your chapter. Tri-Sigma is a great organization! |
If the police are involved and catch who did it, hopefully a public apology will be part of their punishment.
I agree with everyone else - keep your heads held high and don't let these a-holes get you down. oh, and when you find out who did it, put lots of laxatives in their food. ETA: what is the "fff"? Is that representing Greek letters? |
I would be at Panhellenic ASAP asking them what they can do to help. This sort of behavior is inexcusable. Get Panhellenic to wear your letters and get them to put an ad in the school paper denouncing this behavior. If your community comes together, it can grow and overcome this bull.

I'm sorry this happened to you! I understand how you feel. |
Oh my gosh, CCUSigma, that's just AWFUL!!! I agree with all the other posters that you should wear your letters as often as possible. I really hope whoever did this gets the punishment they deserve!
|
Who did you piss off? Get out the short list and take a look.
BY all means go to PHC. Assuming it was another Greek organization and it sounds like a fraternity, someone knows who did it. And peple talk. Candle lit vigils might be a bit much . . . but be reassurd by one thing, in a month no one will care. By next semester it will be a non-issue except to you. Be thankful it didn't happen earlier in the semester, you guys may have been really thrown off balance. Honestly, most people are not going to care, and more girls will be offended for you, than think less of you. |
it would also help for select delegates of the chapter to travel on meeting night to each of the sorority houses to talk about thevandalism and what happened. clear up any rumors, answer questions and ask that anyone with information go and talk to the police with no fear of disciplinary action for the info. this involves the entire sorority system and makes it personal for each sorority member if you talk to the chapters. it will also get them on your side because you can remind them that non Greeks see sometihng like this and can't tell the difference between letters so it affects the entire Greek community.
|
Do you guys really think its that serious? Its hurtful and stupid versus like a world altering event.
|
Someone SPRAY PAINTING stuff on a building? Yes, it IS that serious. It's one thing to put up a banner, it's quite another to destroy school property for the express purpose of making fun of someone.
|
James, while I know you like to be a shit disturber, and no this issue is not a world altering event.
It does, however need to be tackled head on, because this kind of behaviour is unacceptable. We're supposed to be educated adults not 5 year olds, who have to resort to name calling to make themselves feel superior. And now it's a university issue because university property has been damaged. I'll have to agree with most people here. Wear your letters with pride! Let the law deal with what the have to. Talk to your PHC and IFC. |
It definitely is a big deal. It might seem small to those who did not experience it but to the ladies who wear the letters, they now have to deal with the humiliation that some will continue to associate with tri-Sigma. It's absolutely sick that some loser would hurt them this way and try to make a mockery of a very important day in their sororities history. To mock them and do this on Founders Day is shameful and tries to belittle the standards of their sorority and all it represents.
Wouldn't you be ashamed and/or embarrassed if someone posted banners and flyers around your school denouncing and mocking all that you believe and stand for? |
I also agree with getting a few members to go to each chapter at their meeting times to dicusss this event. I know here we send ADPI reps to go talk about philanthropy events and all sorts of things and this is something horrible that happened so get some members to talk to each sorority and tell them of the event and everything. Of course they will know already but if it wasnt a sorority that did that to you, they need to be supporting your sorority to show Greeks stick together. If it was a sorority you may find out by talking to them how they act or something, but dont take the law into your hands, let the police handle it. I hope they catch who did it....
|
Yes, it is that serious.
Whoever did this trashed another sororities name. If it was another GLO, that is COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY uncalled for and they deserve disciplinary action along with legal action. It's called RESPECT. I don't care if you don't like the other GLO's. I don't care if you don't like the men or women involved in them. If you are a member of a GLO you MUST RESPECT your panhellenic brothers and sisters. It is that simple!!!!!! Even as a non-greek, it's called GROW THE HELL UP and don't start dissing things you don't understand or don't agree with. CCUSigma, I am so sorry this happened to you and your sisters. I agree with what the other women have said. Call an emergency Pan-Hel meeting. Wear your letters everyone. Show these people that you aren't going to whither to dust. That you are much stronger and braver people than them. I obviously don't know you all personally, but I feel in my heart that you girls can do this. |
TOTAL Emergency Situation.

I think that is all James is saying -- keep some perspective about all of this. The people who will think poorly of Tri-Sigma because of this are (1) probably predisposed to think poorly of Tri-Sigma -- or all Greeks, for that matter -- anyway, and (2) are idiots whose opinions simply aren't worth worrying about. No intelligent (or semi-intelligent) person is going to look at this vandalism and say "Hmmmm, those Tri-Sigmas really must be pitiful if they drove someone to do this." No, they're going to say "Sheesh, who ever did that is worthless and ought to have the book thrown at them." Simply put, most people with any brains are going to view the vandalism as saying a whole lot more about the vandals than about Tri-Sigmas. CCUSigma123 and her sisters have every right to be offended and hurt, and they are certainly owed an apology! But they should not respond as though they have to defend themselves or prove the vandals wrong. By all means, show pride and solidarity by wearing letters everywhere, work through PHC, give other Greeks the oportunity to get behind you. But don't do anything with an attitude of "we've got to do this or people will believe those vandals." Do it with an attitude of "we're proud of who we are and what we stand for." The bottom line is those whose opinions matter know these vandals are full of it. Everyone else will have forgotten about it by Fall. ETA: By the way, James is right about going through the short list of who might be pissed off. Any bad break-ups lately? Way too much effort and thought went into this for it not be personal. |
Good lord! What grade are these people in? Isn't this supposed to be college? Honestly, I think the mean girls I knew in MIDDLE SCHOOL wouldn't have done something so childish.
|
What I'd do is wait for word on the street to surface who did it. Then when they have their next event publicize free drug and violence counseling all around shady areas in the neighborhood.
That was a joke, but I hope your group can deal with this problem. -Rudey |

definitely get your entire greek system involved. and keep your heads up. you know you are way above all this mess. |

I'm sorry that this happened to you. All of my advice is redundant. Get your campus panhellenic involved as well as inter-greek council, if you have one. Have an all greek day of solidarity when you all wear your letters. I really hope that the police catches those vandals.
|
Perhaps a little countre-PR would be in order?
Post flyers around campus and in classrooms that decry the event. State what your organization is all about -- basically send out a positive message. Write the student newspaper, say things like "All students should be focused on improving themselves here, this act was certainly perpetrated by minority of individuals that lack the maturity to understand that". It's actually a decent opportunity to gain some public awareness -- and if you treat it right, you can come out of this and turn a potential negative come recruitment time into a positive. |
I don't think this is just a Tri-Sigma issue now.
Once the perpetrators vandlized a school biulding it became a campus wide issue. Not only did the disprespect the Tri-Sigmas, they showed an utter lack of respect for ALL their fellow students. |

Wow. It amazes me how immature and childish some people can be! I mean, spray painting a building?! C'mon now. With what everyone else said - wear letters with PRIDE and show them just how strong our sisterhood really is! Keep your heads up - we know how awesome our organization is, and remember to be PROUD to be a Sigma no matter what. I'd also try going to PHC and talking to some of the other Greek organizations. My guess is that someone is going to know something about what went on and who had a part in it. You ladies keep your heads up. I know it's one thing to say and another to do, because as a Tri Sigma, I can't believe someone doing this, but don't give whoever did this the satisfaction of seeing you ladies down and upset about the incident. |
Wow. That's really awful. I hope you guys figure out who is responsible. By the way, CCUSigma, one of your chapter sisters is my sister's biological sister (I'm from Alpha Beta @ Kent and her name's Kristen R.) ! :)

I've seen many many people take stereotypes and run, and some people will think, wow those people who did this to them are really awful, but you can bet your bottom dollar some people will think, "gee they must be as bad as everyone says they are." Or "When I rush there's no way in hell I'm going to be a ___." How do I know? Well! I'm glad you asked. People have teased my chapter for being large (ahem! at 5'6" and 130 lbs, I am NOT large!), and I heard alomst everyday, "you're a Chi O? You're not fat!" With astonishment. When you get that kind of treatment, people don't take the time to find out who you are and say, hey the XYZ's are really nice people, despite not having an entire chapter of barbie dolls. People run with what they hear, and if they see one nanogram of evidece for a sterotype, you are stuck with it (and the worst ones are generally in the greek system!). Stuff like this, which is above and beyond anything I have ever seen, is very harsh on any group, in addition to not supporting the ideals of our orgs. I don't want to make this bad event worse, but this is why is sucks so much. |
This is one of the saddest state of affairs that I have heard of in many years!:(
I have checked the Campus web site and it sucks for Greeks!:( There do not seem to be that many Greeks there at CCU, but if you would PM me I would be more than happy to check out the Greeks. If it is done by a fellow Greek Organization, it is in very bad taste, PERIOD! If it is done by Independents, then it is Stupidity and Illegal for Property Damage! Try to instill in your Sister Hood that you are much better than that! Stear them to GC and let them see what Most of us try to do for Greek Betterment! Hold your Heads High, Wear Your Letters and become bigger than the slugs who did this! Hurtful, yes it is, get sympathy, it will become a selling tool for the Sisters Of Tri-Sigma. Just show them you are bigger than they, (Whoever it was), are! You will gain more respect! |
this is a huge deal, especially for a chapter that may not be on the top of the social ladder at the school. if it happens to the "top" chapter, people will just laugh. if it happens to anyone else...that's a different story.
keep your head up hon. and get to panhellenic faster than fast. if any of your sisters have friends in other chapters, ask them to talk to their chapters about doing something to show greek unity. that'll get the message across. |
I'm so sorry this happened to you. :(
|
i'm sorry that this happened to you! everyone has some great advice. good luck to you and you chapter...and just think...in two more weeks you will be on vacation!
