Campus Queens

CT4, I tried to find a thread to post this to but I couldn't (I'm a little slow today :( ) . Anyway, (Enitra Jones) Miss Southern 2004-2005 was elected yesterday and she's a member of Delta Sigma Theta Alpha Tau '03.

Southern Divas

Congrats!

CrimsonTide4 04-22-2004 11:55 AM

Thanks, Country Gurl. In all my years on GC, 3 and 10/12, LOL, I don't think we have had a thread on the HBCU Campus Queens.

Congrats Soror Miss Southern. :D

Man, Alpha Tau has a stanglehold on Miss Southern(LOL). It's all good because they usually have some lovely young ladies that represent both Delta and Southern very well.

CrimsonTide4 04-22-2004 01:29 PM

I finally went to look at the website, but that just lists the Spring 2003 line of Alpha Tau.

What's Miss Southern's name?

Cali_Keisha 04-22-2004 02:56 PM

For some reason the link is not coming up on my computer

Dedicated2Delta 04-22-2004 02:58 PM

Once you get to the website, click on "About AT". Then click on "Accomplishments of AT Sorors" at the bottom of the page. Scroll down and click on "Southern Leadership." That page gives a Bio on the Soror who won.

I know, I was there for that. The only one I actually voted for was Shantrice Hilton, but they all represented very well.

Yup. :p She's the sweetest person on earth, though. I haven't had the heart to crack on her about her name considering we're in B. Spears' hometown and all.

By the way, it's been a Miss Southern sweep since 1997, not 1998. Y'all forgot Wendy Hurt (97-98), then Chayla, Jelinda, Shantrice, Krystal, Erica, and Kyana. It woulda been a really nice streak if Heather Williams pledged Delta (she was a GDI when she won the title), but we can't have everything. :(

But still...let the streak continue.

Completely off tangent, you may as well spend a little time in the OTHER regions so you can say you've hit ALL seven before you die lol.

Miss Black Oklahoma State University

Miss Black OSU an ambassador in her community

Kyonna Blades
Features Writer

This past February, Leslie Warrior was crowned Miss Black OSU 2005.

Since then, she has been promoting her platform of the importance of self-esteem in today’s black women. She has gone around the state, speaking to groups of girls about self-esteem and self-image.

According to reports in Warrior’s research, black women are leading in new cases of eating disorders, starting with middle school-aged girls.

As Miss Black OSU, Warrior served as an ambassador for OSU and the black community.

After winning the title, Warrior was invited to compete in Miss Black Oklahoma.

Miss Black Oklahoma was a weeklong event in which contestants toured the State Capitol and the Freedom Center in Oklahoma City. They were given the opportunity to meet senators and learned about city government and knowing their rights as citizens.

The event was hosted by Clara Luper, which started the Miss Black Oklahoma pageant as an outlet for black women to participate in educational and social history, as well as black history. Luper was a pioneer in starting the sit-in movement during the 1950s in Oklahoma.

Warrior was named second runner up in the competition. Because of this, she was invited to the NAACP Convention—Youth and College Division in Milwaukee, Wis. At the convention, she met senators and celebrities, including singer John Legend, rapper Ludacris and civil rights champion, the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

During her time at the convention, she attended legislative sessions and toured America’s Black Holocaust Museum. Founded by the only known lynching survivor, James Cameron, the museum was opened to promote consciousness of the impact of racism on African Americans and America as a whole.

The museum also features a quilt with all fifty states and the names of people who were lynched in each state.

Warrior has been helping Tiffany Nixon, Multicultural Student Center coordinator, prepare for next year’s Miss Black OSU pageant. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority.

As far as her reign as Miss Black OSU, she says, “It’s been a great experience and I hope to help young women in any way that I can.”

Can't forget about Beta Alpha and the way they hold it down at FAMU. If you look at my pics in the Nupe Forum you will see Miss Kimberly Brown (BA Fall 03) as Miss FAMU. Last year a girl name Brooke (AKA, BA) was Miss FAMU. It was an anomolie that an AKA won. Probably out of the last 10 years I know of only two AKA's winning Miss FAMU. And I have my opinion on why Delta's seem to always win but I ain't sayin nuthin! :D ;)
