Black Expressions.com
About 2 months ago I was prompted by Black Planet to join BE, a book club that doesn't take a credit card, you just order your books. I ordered 3 books (A Day Late A Dollar Short, It's the Little Things..., and For the Love of Money, by Omar Tyree)for 11.00! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/cool.gif It came within 7 days and I loved it. However, my girlfriend ordered her books around the same time that I ordered mine and STILL hasn't recieved them. Well, I ordered 4 more books by EXPRESS mail (2-3 bus days & extra fee) 3 weeks ago, and... no books! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif I have emailed their service center several times, have recieved an order confirmation telling me how much my bill is, and have been told that my order was shipped and will be arriving soon. Whatever. And to top it all off? I can't log onto the website anymore and my password has not changed! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif Has any one else experienced this?

Soror, you should have known. You know BP is hooked and crooked, so you should have figured that BE was just as crooked! LOL lol http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
I'm kidding! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif NO, really, I am! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Soror, I hope you and your friend receive your order! |
You know I'm going to go OFF if I recieve a bill in the mail for those last books (no, I'll act verrrry ladylike http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif )

I also joined Black Expressions. I received all the books I ordered and got credit for my payments.
The problems I find is just that they are very SLOW and it takes a long time for them to update their files. (Think BMG or Columbia House run very inefficiently.) |
Soror TickledPink, I feel your pain. I am also order books through Black Expressions. I ordered one book last month, and they sent me three! I returned the other two to the sender and wrote a letter to the customer service department explaining that I did not order those books and want my account corrected promptly. It was done in a week. Just stay on them. Good luck.

The same thing happened to me! I'd ordered the initial "new membership" books. It took d@mn near an act of congress for me to get those books...They tried to play the Jedi Mind Game on me, saying the books had been returned to them...my address is a p.o. box at the MAIN Post Office! So, even if the books had been put in the wrong p.o. box by mistake, they'd (the usps) have simply put the books in the correct p.o. box! UGH!!!!!!!!! I haven't ordered a book from them since...and, every time they send me unrequested books, I cross out my address & write "return to sender" & drop in right in the mailbox...BEFORE I EVEN LEAVE THE POSTOFFICE!

To all ladies who enjoy a discount on hardcover books and getting their books on time:
The DoubleDay Book Club is rated #1 in my book. I have been a member for almost two years now and they even send me books here in England. I payed $15.95 for "A Day Late and A Dollar Short" in hardback. Plus I get my order within two weeks. If you are interested, let me know. And I do not get anything out of it. I am already a member. ------------------ |

I like Booksamillion.com. I've been very pleased with the response and service from them.
I used to order from barnesandnoble.com but they stopped offering coupons. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif |
Thanks, TempleAlum!

Soror, you scarring me!!! I just ordered from them about two weeks ago. I haven't recieved anything yet. I wanted to know if it was legit or not!! Sounds like I just have to take my chances....we will see!!!

They're legit, it just takes FOREVER! After several daily emails to member services, I finally recieved my order three days ago. And since I'm only required to order 4 books in 2 years and have already reached my quota, I may cancel. I don't know. I'll try to be patient. Perhaps they're experiencing growing pains.

Another bit of advice! I no longer decline books on the Black Expressions site. Use the return card and send it snail mail!

I'm almost finished "Four Guys and Trouble" by Marcus Major. I think its a pretty good read; the pace is quick and some of the scenes are funny.
His first book "Good Peoples" was just ok but I try to give writers a second chance. Next up?....It's a Thin Line by Kimberla Lawson Roby (I'll give my review when finished) http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |
I haven't read that one yet, but I read "God Don't Like Ugly". That was an awesome book. It still amazes me that she withstood abuse for so long. Now, I am thoroughly disappointed in "Flyy Girl" by Omar Tyree. I went ahead and put it down. Now, I'm struggling through "Their Eyes Were Watching God" , but the language is a little difficult for me to get through.

I just sent in my May order this week. I ordered brotha-man some books for Father's Day. I plan on sneak-reading them before I wrap them up and give them to him as I look all innocent. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Shalom~ |

Another option is the local Black bookstore. There are two where I live. I know I can get the books much cheaper at the bigger stores. But I try to buy as many of my books there as possible, I don't want to see them close down. They were carrying books when the other ones wouldn't.

Lovely, I feel you.
The National President of DST owned a bookstore here locally and it closed recently do to lack of business. I think that should not have happened. It was nery, very nice. Sunshine |
