pretty awesome!!! i really hope this is true!!! best of luck to all the sororities presenting!

Go ADPi :D ;)

sugar and spice 04-17-2004 11:52 AM

Yay! I was hoping Tri Delta would be one of the sororities chosen to present!

TriDeltaGal 04-17-2004 03:56 PM

Awesome! Good Luck to Tridelta as well as ADPi and APhi!

Honestly, I just love hearing about the Greek system expanding and it hardly matters what GLO it is!

Tom Earp 04-17-2004 04:16 PM

No Matter Who, good luck to all! If it Be Tri-Delta, it is Great to See Expansion, no matter where or who!

Xylochick216 04-19-2004 10:14 PM

Just found out that presentations will be May 6-7. We should know shortly after that :D Good luck to everyone presenting!

bruinaphi 04-19-2004 10:47 PM

Actually the presentations are the 5th - 7th.

polarpi 04-19-2004 11:30 PM

Best of luck to all three NPC organizations presenting. As TriDeltaGal said, it's great to see NPC expansion (as well as any GLO expansion), but I'm always excited to see the possibility of another ADPi chapter! :)

ADPiZXalum 04-20-2004 12:04 AM

Good luck to Tri Delt, Alpha Phi and of course my ADPis!!! Any of those three would be a great addition to the Greek system at Elon!

aphibeach 04-20-2004 12:23 AM

hey do any of yall know what days exactly everyone is presenting? that would be absolutely wonderful and best of luck to everyone!

I'm not sure about which ones are on which dates, but as soon as I hear I'll let you know :D

maggieaxid 04-20-2004 03:19 PM

YAY Elon!
It's always fun when a new org comes to colonize at Elon. We have a great greek community. I know who I am rooting for to colonize-- but its for biased reasons!

pinkyphimu 04-20-2004 03:24 PM

how exciting! it is great to see so much expansion right now!

sugar and spice 05-09-2004 04:22 PM

Expansion is sooooo exciting!!

Xylochick216 05-09-2004 10:09 PM

OK, Panhellenic Reps will be voting this week. We should get an email soon telling us who is coming. :)

maggieaxid 05-10-2004 12:49 PM

apparently my opinion makes people upset....so sorry if this is now vague and makes no sense

As an Elon alum, here is my guess...
I think its going to be ABC and here's why:
1. the university is growing by leaps and bounds and are trying to compete with larger well known university in so-con like Wake Forest and JMU. Bringing a larger (not the the other orgs aren't large or have huge alum bases- don't flame me!) like ABCwill be a very positive move for the greek life office.
2. This is a really silly reason, BUT there there is already confusion between all the "Alpha" sororities- AMN. ARZ. and AJQ that bringing another Alpha org like AXY or AWK will just add to the confusion!

aphibeach 05-10-2004 09:12 PM

on my campus we have Alpha Phi, AXiD, ADPi, and AGD and we don't seem to have a problem mixing up the chapters

i mean it's anyone's game. Alpha Phi is well known but not in the south. i can see the school moving more towards ADPi and Tri-Delt because they are big southern chapters but Alpha Phi has 2 big alumnae chapters in the area (Raleigh and Greensboro). plus with the Duke chapter right up the road, along with the 2 other chapters in the state, we are just as well known at ADPi and Tri-Delt in NC. I know both of those sororities having chapters at other schools in the area but don't say one has a better chance because it's well known or that it might be confusing. putting the confusion aside, we all have a good chance.

Whatever the letter, we're all Greek together!! May the best sorority - at this time, on this campus! - get the colony!

DolphinChicaDDD 05-10-2004 11:44 PM

true true

where was my panhellenic spirt?? it escaped me!!!

I just want to know!! It is almost 11:30EST, and yet I'm still checking the school and all the presenter's websites, as if some insane national will be up posting the news at this hour

Xylochick216 05-11-2004 12:05 AM

Sorry to disappoint, but I don't even know when they are voting.... I'm assuming tomorrow night or Wednesday because exams start Thursday morning. But you know I'll be posting as soon as I hear ;)

maggieaxid 05-11-2004 09:16 AM

I am changing the GLO affiliations because people are too sensitive for open discussions. sorry if it doesn't make any sense....

honestly, it will all depend on the presentations and the women who make up the panhellenic board. I was there when Sigma Kappa colonized as well as when they were deciding on AXO coming on board. Those two orgs nailed their presentations. Everyone was really impressed with both those groups. Where as the other orgs that were also up for the colonizing process, were other very large national groups, their presentations weren't as stellar or had enough alum in the area to show support.
it's all up in the air now. I personally would like to see RFO colonize, but I really have a hunch it will be SBB. But whom ever it is, Elon is a great greek campus and the chapter without a doubt will thrive.

This is a dumb question, but do your finals go from this Thursday till next Thursday? i.e. graduation isn't on the 15th, is it?

I was just wondering how they are doing all this with finals coming up - that would be enough to worry about without that decision!

Maggie, i have a question for you. did you go to any of the presentations last week? then how do you know what each sorority has to offer? i just find it extrememly humorous that you're basing who you think will end up on Elon's campus based on who is more well-known, instead of who is the most qualified and willing to put in 110% (which i know is any of the three sororities here).

Graduation is on the 22nd, and exams end the 18th. So we still have awhile.

And I agree with APhi beach. You can't base your decision on what you think about the national org or have heard about other chapters. Everyone I have talked to on campus was pleasantly surprised by one group, and it was not who everyone was expecting to love so much.

I'm hoping I get an email today telling us who it is! :D

maggieaxid 05-11-2004 12:14 PM

I am basing my opinion on the fact that I went to Elon and am still very involved in my chapter on Elon's campus. I have also held several positions in Panhellenic on Elon's campus and have previsously been invited to speak about Recruitment to Elon students even after I have graduated and been through two colonizations while attending Elon.
No, I didn't see the presentations but I have heard about all three of them from my sisters still on campus. Like Xylo said, all were surprised by one chapter in particular. I won't reveal who that was. And like I said before all statements I made were based on my opinion.

I find it humorus that people assume that they know what chapters are good for a campus, when they have never been there and don't know what the greek culture is like.

Glitter650 05-11-2004 12:43 PM

Maggie... you've been here long enough to know that expansion is a very sensitive subject and that making statements about who is more well known etc can be kinda tricky... and makes people defensive because they want their org. to do well and while you may know the campus well, you still don't know each individual org presenting well enough to make a judgement unless you have seen the presentation or are a member of the expansion team for that org. it has been discussed here and I do respect that it is your opinion and you have the right to state it but read over this thread as Shadokat said it very well and I really don't think we need to start another discussion on this. Expansion threads

maggieaxid 05-11-2004 01:03 PM

i understand that expansion is a sensitive subject. but if everyone has to walk around on egg shells and to keep their opinion to themselves, that what the point of having a forum?

i don't think i should have defend my opinions, just like i haven't asked anyone to defend why they think XYZ is better then ABC. I didn't say any chapter or org was better or worse, I simply stated that on the basis of my experience and my knowledge which I admit is limited, but maybe not as limited as some other people on this board, I feel that a certian org may be chosen.

and if anyone did read my posts in their entirety that would also realize i said that no matter what group was chosen they were sure to flurish.

And its not like I said that XYZs presentation sucked or that JKL was sooo wonderful that I know they will be chosen.

But since apparently too many people are offended by my OPINION, I will go back and change all the letters so that they are anonymous and vague....like apparently we are to be during an open discussion because it might hurt people's feelings.....

Also, I went back and checked my post- never did I say one GLO was more WELL-KNOWN- I said more well known schools than Elon....

sugar and spice 05-11-2004 01:19 PM

Claws in, ladies. :D

Let's not stress over this, you guys. We all love our sororities, they all have something great to offer. I'm sure we'd love to extend expansion bids to all of them if we could. ;)

Maggie is just offering her thoughts on the matter because she's familiar with the system. So is Xylochick -- and she doesn't necessarily agree. Clearly neither of them are wrong, they just have different opinions. And since their opinions (and ours) are going to have little to no effect on the expansion process, I'm not sure why anyone's getting so worked up over what they say?

Anyway, I hope we find out soon!

maggieaxid 05-11-2004 02:28 PM

Thanks Sugar....
anyway, I rec'd an email from my org's advisor, she indicated that they had extended an offer to one org. but they she hasn't heard whether they have accepted or rejected the offer. I am not going to divulge who it is because of obvious politics.

I am sure Xylo and the rest of the Elon campus will find out by the end of the day, as you will all too.

Jill1228 05-11-2004 03:08 PM

DOH! I am dying to find out...I guess I gotta wait till I get off work tonight!

funny that you assume that i have never been to Elon when in fact i was enrolled there in 2000. i left and tranferred later on. although i did not rush at Elon, i was a student there and i did know what went on. so i do know what the greek system is like and yes maybe you do know what's "better" for that campus, but i think that any of the three have the same chance to expand.
