Sisterfriends turned members!

OK.....Maybe I'm a junkie, but as an interest, I like to come on this forum and read old posts.
Well, I got the idea to start looking at the profiles to see how many interests that posted in forums, say, 3 years ago actually crossed. For instance, forums like "Why do you want to be a Delta" or "What do you have to offer Delta." Unsurprisingly MANY have made it (which gives me hope ;) ) But anyway, I was wondering how many more of you are out there. It would be fun to see how diligence, persistance, and desire have brought so many women into Delta!! Please share your experience :)

reddawn18 04-16-2004 12:34 PM

Great Post!

Miss Nikki, this was a great idea. I am junkie too, when I first signed on I looked at the old posts as well. As an interest, I am curious too!

treblk 04-16-2004 01:24 PM

I want to know too:D

ImaDiamond 04-16-2004 01:38 PM

Me three (well, four anyway) :)

Cali_Keisha 04-16-2004 02:26 PM

Me five!! Bring on the info. so we can keep hope alive

SKEEphistAKAte 04-16-2004 03:12 PM

I'll Bite

I (obviously) wasn't a Delta interest, but an interest nonetheless. My previous screename was MIZZKES. See my sig. for other details.:D

brownsuga40 04-16-2004 05:10 PM

Skee- Though I am a Delta interest, I would love to hear from the other D9 sororities as well....thanks for your input :D Congrats by the way!

MeezDiscreet 04-16-2004 06:54 PM

well i'm one of those sisterfriends turned members. as you can tell by username, i was careful with my info. and i was one of the ones who posted in those threads you mentioned.

i learned a lot and i ireally became comfortable with a lot of people, sorors especially, who post on the board. as a matter of fact, CT4 was there for me when i prepared for rush, submitting my application and my interview. i can remember sending her a message saying "i'll talk to you in a few weeks..."

throught out the whole process, she would send me greetings, as well as kelli (a former mod) and greeting cards. when i crossed, i couldn't wait to post on greekchat and send carla a message. i was soooooo excited to call her SOROR!!!! that's why i call her my cyber prophyte.;) :D :) and we've never met face-to-face but it's that good ol' DELTA spirit that's good enough for me!

yoshi_bnt 04-16-2004 08:30 PM

My experience on this board was a little different. I always just observed, I never posted. However, I learned a lot and watching the love that sorors extended to interestees let me know that this was the right sorority for me just like I thought. There is indispensable knowledge on this board!

I read this yesterday at work and teared up a bit (dayum allergies, lol) but the feeling is definitely mutual Soror MeezDiscreet. I am proud to call you my cyber neo and SOROR!!!! :D

I still remember when you were on line, I would check the neo thread EVERY DAY. When that grand glorious day came, I started clapping and cheering and crying. I felt like a proud Mama Duck. ;)

soulfulremix 04-17-2004 12:15 PM

I developed a wonderful relationship with Soror Ideal that is very similar to MeezDiscreet and CT4'srelationship.

Because I was so young when I first registered on GC (it was the summer before my Senior year in HS), I never really felt like it was my place to engage in some of these grown discussions (Greek life, relationships, etc.), so I only posted once in a blue moon.

When Soror Ideal and I began exchanging PM's, I was still in high school (a senior). We talked about many things including her career, my goals, and other life issues. Some time before this school year began (my freshman yr. in college), I expressed my interest in AKA. She gave me advice on contacting different people and remaining discreet and humble. I remained VERY discreet while she helped me get ready for Rush and wished me the best of luck.

I can say with no doubt in my mind that there were times when I WORKED Soror Ideal's nerves. I would IM her with questions and ask the same question in millions of different ways. Sometimes, I even questioned the advice she was giving me. But, I made sure to never step on any toes and get too big for myself. She laughed with me (and probably at me), and always made sure I understood how much confidence and pride it takes to be an Alpha Kappa Alpha woman!

When I finally became a SOROR, I had to tell her! Soror Ideal knew before alot of people in my life, because she means THAT much to me. I am now a Soror of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, bursting with the pink and green SPIRIT and I am SOOOOO glad I had her to help me see the light!

msn4med1975 04-17-2004 08:06 PM

I don't recall posting on here much before I crossed. I frequented other message boards and those women were very helpful in giving me good information as well as encouragement over the 4-5 years it took me after graduation to complete the journey. They were probably as happy, if not more, than I was when I finally got the call. And along with the Delta women who were already in my life two of them were there to pin me so it really made it something truly special for me.

I don't know why you are trying to make me cry up in this piece! was SO happy for you when you crossed!! I am proud to call you my soror! :) Girl, you never worked my nerves! I remember what it was like on the other side. Soror Soulfulremix was ALWAYS on point!! She thinks that I helped her so much, but she helped me, too. She has kept alive within me... well, you know the rest. ;)

brownsuga40 04-18-2004 01:14 AM

awww....this feels like a reunion :D

Nubian 04-18-2004 07:53 AM

I didn't know 5 years ago when I started this quest that I would still be on it today. But having to wait so long has actually solidified in my mind that this is what I want. And actually seeing people realize their goals after 5,10, or 15 years makes me very hopeful and proud. As a matter of fact MSN4MED doesn't know me from a hill of beans but when she crossed I almost cried!

msn4med1975 04-18-2004 04:23 PM

Dang I can't get no tears ROFL. It's cool and I understand that as folks you "know" cross it is inspiring. If you need a little MORE inspiration, I actually attended my first rush slightly over 10 years before I was actually inducted this year. It was a long road, but staying busy with my actual life really made the time sorta roll on by. Not saying it didn't seem like it was NEVER gonna come but it definitely helped that getting here was't the sole focus.

fun4real 06-12-2005 09:33 PM

OK, hoping I don't get "it" for pulling up an old thread.

However, this is very interesting to me being that many have posted their recently attained membership.

Were you a sisterfriend in GC before becoming a member? If so, how long?

Why would you get "it" for pulling up an old thread? This is a good thread to pull. REading the old posts, I see a couple who have crossed over or know more who can say they used to be an interest but are now a member.

fun4real 06-12-2005 09:56 PM

CT4,

I wasn't serious about getting "it". But you know, I visit a travel forum that folks trip out when old threads get bump.

I didn't expect that here.

FUN

In fact CT4 will "get you" if you start a new thread without checking to see if the topic had alread been started before. So you did the right thing. :D

Hey!! I've become lax these last few weeks or so. Lately if I see it, I just merge and keep it moving, lol.

MW84 06-13-2005 01:43 PM

This is only my 2nd time (i think) posting on this board but I read info posted on here everyday. I am a interest and I never knew such bonds were created between members and non-members. I'm not trying to brown nose or anything like that but this type of relationship make me respect the organization even more. Its always positive to have that type of guidance when as an interest you are trying to get know members, attending rushes and reading info about the organization.

Cali_Keisha 06-13-2005 03:36 PM

Oh my goodness I was the fifth person to post in this tread and I don't even remember (I'm blaming it on the pregnancy). I joined GC April of 2004 and became a DELTA on April 9, 2005, so I was a sisterfriend for a little over a year give or take a coulpe of days. Please Sisterfriends don't give up hope, I found out I was pregnant 2 days before rush and I was not even gonna go. I figured that it would be doing to much and I needed to start saving all the money I could. But I had my aunt who is a Delta tell me not to turn myself down let them if that is the case. Plus a few of my friends were going to drag me if they had to, because I have been talking about wanting to be a Delta for as long as they have known me. So to make a long story short I went and was picked out 400+ people that attended rush. It was hard because it was ALOT of work and I was ALWAYS tired, but I made it and it was well worth it. So take it from me, if you want it bad enough it will happen, maybe not when you want it to but it will one day. Stay strong Sisterfriends:D

Ok, this gave me goosebumps....:D I think it's that neo fever;)

Gina1201 06-13-2005 04:46 PM

I'll bite. My first post to GC was on May 22, 2002 right after I decided to actively pursue membership. In fact my first post was:

And now 3 years later, I am PROUD to be a member of DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, INNNNNNNNNNNCORPORATED!!

I know I made a few errors along the way but the women who I can now call my SORORS were very helpful (love ya CT4, ladygreek, & treblk). I paid attention to all of the assistance that was given.

It's still setting in as I am now 43 days old that I am in fact a member. To my SFs who are still pursuing the dream, no matter the organization, I say keep ya head up!!:)

Little32 06-13-2005 09:39 PM

I love this thread.

nita504sujags 06-13-2005 11:22 PM

Hi I've just become a sisterfriend of GC and I'm sitting here reading this thread and it's really giving me so much hope. To the ones who are saying "keep your heads up", THANK U!! I really needed that. I really don't have anyone to talk with who wants to become a Delta as much as I do, so it would really be nice to hear from anyone who likes to chat with me. I'd really like to get to know some of you who either shares the same interest or anyone who can give me words of wisdom.

christiangirl 06-14-2005 12:37 AM

I hear ya. It's really hard, almost scary, when something you've wanted sooooo bad for sooooo long rests in the hands of others who don't know you from a hole in the wall. There's only so much you can do, getting to know people without being pushy, pumping yourself up while being humble, etc. Especially when you don't stand out much as it is. It's really nice to see all these encouraging words in here. I know this post was made for y'all to reminisce, but I think we're getting even more out of it because it means so much to hear somebody wants us to keep going when the next interest is hoping we'll get out her way:-). I really love this board, even if I mostly read and not post, I get a lot from it. Not just info, but usually just a good laugh or a warm fuzzy when I need it. Thanks ladies, y'all sure know how to keep hope alive, lol.

MW84 06-14-2005 12:42 AM

I agree with the ladies above. The sense of encouragement is priceless. Its hard to explain how I as a interest feel when I see these words of encouragement. It jst reminds me that there is someone out there that has gone through or is going through what I am now.
Thank you ladies now and forever.

CrimsonTide4 06-14-2005 07:10 AM

To the Sisterfriends:

Let me elaborate on this "help and support". . .

I have been fortunate to have been a member of GC for 5 years and a Delta for 8 years. I have come across many interests on GC who have become very special to me so it warms my heart when I see them become my Soror. There are quite a few on here who we connected on GC by nature of the various conversations we have had. To use my Soror MeezDiscreet as an example. While she was an interest, she was on GC talking to us and not just about Delta. WE talked about music, school, etc. To use Soror Gina as another example, she and I talked about breakups and America's Next Top Model. They posted on GC. I got to know them and see them beyond their interests. To use a non Delta example, soulfulremix posted on this side of GC and I liked what she said. Not knowing where her interest lied, I was totally shocked to see her become an AKA because she never was on here fawning over the AKAs. She came, she posted, she observed. However when she crossed, I was hella amped for her. Because I felt I knew her somewhat.

I said all of that to say, don't USE us on GC just to get to Delta. There are waaaaay more Deltas in real life than there are on GC. For your Delta questions, if you cannot ask the Deltas you know, please don't come on GC and bombard us with PMs. Please. YOU have to do your part. I cannot hand Delta to you. I will NOT hand Delta to you. You have to WORK and PRAY and have the GPA as well as the community service to achieve Delta.

Advice I give you is to stand out POSITIVELY to the Deltas in your area.

Now to the Sorors and other Greeks who used to be an interest or a sisterfriend on GC (since we all at one time or another have been an interest), but have now achieved membership, please share, if you feel so lead.

YOU BETTA PREACH!!! and this goes to all those seeking membership in all orgs. GC is about life in general..as well as greek life.

soft&beautiful 06-14-2005 01:55 PM

CT4, in the time I have been observing here on GC I'd like to thank you for your honesty.

kiml122 06-14-2005 02:12 PM

I wasn't going to post in this thread at first, but I have since changed my mind. I joined GC in 2000, and I didn't become a Delta until 2003. I posted all over the place in all forums and about different topics in general. I like the fact that I could add my opinion to different topics that weren't greek related, and to be honest, I really didn't post to threads that were greek related. Now if I felt that I had something valid to add, or if a question that was asked about how a non-member felt about something, then yes there were times that I would post my reply, but for the most part, I didn't come here to ask questions that I knew that I would ask someone face to face.

Now when I did finally become a member, I won't even lie, I couldn't get home fast enough and post to the Delta forum to let mey GC family know that I had finally achieved my dream of becoming a member of Delta Sigma Theta, because for me there was no other.......and it was a very long time coming. The only thing that I can say to interest on this forum is don't act as if anykind of answer is owed to you when it comes to the sorority or frat of your choice.

I don't really think that I can recall asking any members any questions via PM about Delta, but I see ladygreek, CT4, and Kelli posting and what they had to say and how they addressed different topics.....I don't know but some interest just seem that they are real joe-familiar with everyone on the forum and sometimes step over the bounds that they shouldn't. I don't know what ever happened to being humble.....ok I'm rambling now so I will stop right now. :) but all in all being a member of GC has been a wonderful experience. I have met people on here face to face that I can call true friends.

NinjaPoodle 06-14-2005 02:36 PM

I lurked for a looonnng time(six months or so) before I joined GC (7/4/01) and posted. I goofed however by posting with my name "NinjaPoodle" before I became a Sigma Lady which is a no-no because you dont want the folks to think you are perpin' (not pimpin';) ) Anywho, if I can find it I will post it here but my first post was harmless and after I realized the mistake I made, (and I was graciously corrected by my now soRHOrs) I didn't post again until after I became an SGRho. :) 11/17/01 (and the rest they say, is herstory!)

Sisterfriends, I also agree wholeheartedly with Sister-Greek CT4. Heed her words!

eta for clarification

blackerican 06-14-2005 03:59 PM

I became an "official" member of GC on January 2003. I used to visit Delta Ave. alot. Then I got up the nerve to join and participate in the forums. It was quite obvious that I was an Delta interest from my post. I became a Delta on April 17, 2004. While here I met several wonderful ladies like, kiml122, LadyGreek, and CT4. I had the pleasure of meeting my "cyber prophyte" Treblk when she stopped through NJ. She is the biggest sweetheart!!!! So take it from a former SisterFriend...keep your eyes on the prize:D .

Hey blackerican I sent you a PM but didn't hear back from you- I think I know some people you may know- hit me up!

Now back to the regularly scheduled program :D

sosinceredst 06-14-2005 10:05 PM

I have been coming to Greek Chat, especially Delta Avenue, since I was a first year in college. That was in '99. I posted a little bit under a different name about non-greek things. But I was much more of a lurker on the boards then a participant. However, I found a lot of inspiration in many of the membership threads as well as when sisterfriends became members and posted on the board. I've had a long road to Delta and some of the threads on the boards were a constant reminder as to why I was pursuing membership. When I was a non-member of DST I was not considered a sisterfriend because I never really posted but I really couldn't wait to introduce myself as a soror when the time finally came.

DableST_1 06-15-2005 08:04 PM

wow GREAT thread

I started lurking around in Greekchat in 99 and finally made my post before becoming a Delta in 2000!!!! This was back when then MsCrimsonCream was the moderator and she helped me out SOOOO MUCH!!!!!!! She was there for me from the interviewing process, till the day I was able to finally OOO-OOOPP!!!!!

What I really loved about this thread back then was the love and the support that was shown on the board. I not only felt it here in DeltaLand, but across ALL boards. I have met a lot of friends here, seen some sistahfriends cross over to GREEKLAND, and learned a lot from everyone!

I also enjoyed the many convos that we had OUTSIDE of Greekland. I have seen this thread change a lot over the last 6 yrs that I have been a member and all for the better. At first I will admit that the majority of this thread was about Greeks (How do I, When can I, Can you help with this, I wanna be...etc...) But Soror Carla has seriously changed that! (Thanks CrimsonTide4 ) Now I feel like we can talk about any and E'RY Thang in this piece!!!!

I will never forget the day I crossed over into delta land, while some of my ships were thinking about calling their friends and family, Stupid me couldn't wait to get to a computer FAST enough to OO-OOP!!!! ;)

Unique_Design 06-15-2005 08:51 PM

I am new to this site, as I am on the quest to sisterhood. All of the posts so far have been inspiring...
