should I rush???
Hi!!
In fall 04 I'll be a junior. I am currently at another school and planning to go to another school possibly UCR for a year because they have a better business program there. And if all works out, I plan to go there for grad. school. I am interested in some sororities (npc) and I want to know if I should rush. Thanks!! =) |
I'll be at UCR for fall 04.

i say rush. unless the orgs are really strict about classificiations, i say go for it. there are many many schools that are happy with taking juniors. it is a good experince to rush, so give it a go. there is no harm in trying.

You never know unless you try! There's lots of good advice on the boards here. And also remember that there are a million ways to enjoy college life and get involved on campus outside of being Greek, too. And more than likely, you will meet other Greeks through these activties, become friends with them, and possibly the opportunity to join through more informal means if the formal recruitment week isn't for you.

My bf pledged as a junior, as well as two of the best sisters I have in my sorority. Go for it!

My school isn't all too strict with taking freshmen. Sure, a few of the houses might cut or at least be weary of older people, but as long as you are yourself and get along with the sisters, I don't see why they wouldn't want to give you a chance!
In fact, my lil sis is actually a junior (though she's actually as old as a sophomore) and from her rush story, it sounded like she had her top choices! Go into rush with an open mind, be yourself, have fun, and I'm sure things will work out for you! :) |
I rushed/pledged as a second semester sophomore at Berkeley, a school where most of the people who rush and pledge are "Frosh". I say go for it. It's one of the greatest experiences you'll ever go through. Our fraternity is even known to take seniors from time to time and have no qualms about juniors.
P.S. Of course, I realize now this is sorority related, but I had to throw in my two cents. ;) Go for it kid. :) |
If you want to, then yes.
|
I say go for it. I rushed in my early 20's as a junior and have never looked back. You only get this opportunity once in your life so make the most of it.
There are 5 NPC sororities at UCR. They are as follows: Sigma Kappa (my sorority) Kappa Kappa Gamma Pi Beta Phi Gamma Phi Beta Delta Gamma I would recommend that you research these particular sororities and their chapters to see if any one of them has something particular that you like or are looking for. Barring that, there are also other sororities there on campus that I am sure have a lot to offer. Have fun and good luck! |
You've got nothing to lose by going through w/formal recruitment. Good Luck if you decide to go through.
|
Thanks for your support everyone!! =D
I'm gonna go through formal rush in Fall04, have fun and hope everythings works out...:p ... |
Note: My status to UCR is not a transfer, it's a year extension to UCR. Then afterwards, EAP for me! :D
Does it change (rush) anything? |
Does UCR mean University of California Riverside? Because if so CASIGKAP left out Alpha Chi Omega. I know that they are there because I met a number of their women this past fall....
|
Yes it does. I'll check it out. =D

Good luck with rush!
I am doing a similar prog. but at UCI. I am pretty new to the campus and I was wondering if there any special requirements for rush at UCI? I need at the info I can get. THANKS. |
I'm an alumna of UCR and AXWhoah is right- there are 6 NPC sororities at UCR.
Potential members who are interested in recruitment should make contact with the Panhellenic council as soon as they can. The most information about recruitment goes out to the freshman and it can be hard for upperclassmen to know what is needed in order to go through recruitment, unless they know someone within an organization beforehand. Don't worry about being a junior if you do try recruitment- the chapters at UCR are accepting of all grade levels of members whereas I know many other schools are not. My new member class was 19 women and about 1/3 of it was juniors and seniors. The experience will be great if you do join a chapter, even if you go through EAP (Education Abroad). A lot of fraternity and sorority members study abroad at UCR. Good luck! If you have any questions, I can do my best to put you in contact with the chapter presidents, recruitment chairs, and the Panhellenic recruitment officer. |
To concur
With everyone else...I say YES. It obvious you have thought deeply about it, and it seems something you want to do. I rushed as Jr myself and while you don't get the 4 year exp I think you still get alot out of it, b/c you are more mature than an 18 year old freshman and more apt at taking things in. I think it will be one of the best decisions you will make. And good luck.

GO FOR IT. It won't hurt to try, so give it a shot! :)

For m3orlil , there are 9 NPC sororities at the UCI campus.
Those are as follows: Alpha Chi Omega Delta Delta Delta Alpha Phi Delta Gamma Gamma Phi Beta Kappa Alpha Theta Kappa Kappa Gamma Pi Beta Phi Phi Zeta Tau You can check out their website at www.students.uci.edu/greeklife Good-luck to you!! Also, if you ever need a job at UCI, PM me b/c my boyfriend is a supervisor there. He does much of the hiring of students there. I'd be more than happy to let him know! |
Thanks everyone who responded to my rush forum. There is so much love here, you guys here rock! :) :D
I went through some forums and there is a matter of grades. I didn't like high school but I did decent (but it's under 3.00 but over 2.5 at least) but I'm doin great in college (over 3.00, probably 3.10). So I did better in college than hs. Will they cut me off immediately because I didn't do so hot in hs? :( |
