makeup question...

I was wondering what people think of Revlon makeup and products?

AlphaGamDiva 04-12-2004 05:17 PM

uh, they're o-k......

just bought their long last lip liner a week ago....yeah, it broke off and is gone, ruined, finished. it was like i bought rimmel products or something for .99....and rimmel products are fiiiine, b/c you don't expect something that cost less than $2 to not be as good as, say, revlon........but when revlon doesn't last near as long as rimmel....then, yeah. :p

i just think there's other, better stuff out there. i used to be a clinique girl, then estee lauder, but now i am a cover girl and damn happy about it (hello, true blend!!!!) :D the few times i have bought anything revlon, i have been disappointed.....i've tried it all. trust me. i'd go with l'oreal over revlon anyday.

33girl 04-12-2004 05:44 PM

AlphaGamDiva, did you get the kind you have to sharpen? That's the only Revlon product I've been unhappy with. Other than that I LOVE most of their stuff, especially the lipstick, cream eyeshadows and nail polish.

AchtungBaby80 04-12-2004 10:33 PM

I've only tried Revlon lipsticks, and I don't like them. They stay on and all, but they taste nasty. And they smell nasty. Kind of like face powder an old lady would wear, or the way my grandmother's closet used to smell. I just couldn't get past it.

LOL! So true! I tried Revlon lipstick when I was 16.....weeeiiiirrrd. (no offence to those who like Revlon)

33girl 04-12-2004 11:06 PM

They have "de-scented" their lipsticks the past couple years and they now have no odor. Which I hate, because the smell reminded me of my mom.

I'm a fan of Revlon's LashFantasy mascara - it's like L'Oreal Double Extend, except it goes on sale a lot more frequently.

I've also heard good things about their 'Skinlights' line, but I've never tried them personally.

AXJules 04-12-2004 11:25 PM

LOVE the skinlights...very flattering...

But I cannot stress it enough, many dept. store brands own drugstore brands and packages and it's the same stuff. I seriously recommend Rimmel @ Wal-Mart and Target....great quality and selection for the $.

I've been using Rimmel mascara for the past 6 or so months.....I used to be a Maybelline girl but I think I've been converted!

Lady Pi Phi 04-12-2004 11:35 PM

I love Rimmel mascara!

I also like their lip gloss.

Adelphean1851 04-13-2004 03:45 AM

I've never heard of rimmel, the cheap brands in FL are NYC and Wet an Wild. They're ok I usually buy nail polish from them.
I like some of the stuff from Caboodles, and Jane was all i used in high school, they have nice shadows, but lately I can't live without MAC studiofix and lipglass, and also Juicy Tubes from Lancome. I also love stuff from those "cult" brands at Sephora like Urban Decay and Tony and Tina.
On the cheaper end, Maybeline's Wet Shine Diamonds Lip gloss is really nifty for the price it makes your lips look really wet and Cover girl Outlast lip color is the best for going out. I don't know that I've ever used much revlon although their skinlights line looks really cool.

no, i used whatever is in the black tube....you just twist and it comes up......mom said the same thing happened to her. buttheads! and is anyone else having trouble finding the l'oreal lip pencil in nude??? we can't find it anywhere!!!!!

NYC is also a great brand for shiney lip gloss. my sister says i always find the stuff she wants but can never find.....i always tell her she looks too hard in the expensive stuff. i'm a server, ppl, let's be rational. :) the jane eye shadow pods are FABULOUS!!! ya know how sometimes you find a color that you like, but once you put it on, you realize it's lighter/another color than you thought? these go on AS IS in the containter. so if you want some funky bright colors, get these! they have a great black shimmer and this silver dusty like stuff......fantastic! you can put it on with a wet eye sponge and it goes on even better!

Rimmel is an English brand. I don't know how available it is in the U.S but it's all over the place here. I have NYC lip gloss. It's not bad.

Well, if we've got it out here in the sticks, then there's a pretty good chance you'll be able to find it where you are! ;)

33girl 04-14-2004 12:49 AM

Adelphean - Rimmel is only available at Wal-Mart in the states. It is actually owned by Coty.

Glitter650 04-14-2004 02:10 AM

The best lip gloss is still Bonnie Bell lip smackers comes in any flavor you can possible think of, smells good and tastes good and it's cheap ! Of course I own some lip glass too... but I still LOVE Bonnie Bell =)

We weren't really supposed to wear make-up with our uniforms in high school, but almost all of us wore Lipsmackers! Some girls even carried them around on a string around their neck :)

AlethiaSi 04-14-2004 10:13 AM

i absolutely lOVE caboodles lip glosses and sparkles... pretty cheap and last long....

i've never really used revlon.... it kind of reminds me of covergirl... and i thought those always smelled so funny- i couldn't stand them... i love maybelline and almay though... full and soft mascara is the best:) i also like the sonia k(something) line from target- shes a prof makeup artist- its a little pricier- but i have her eyelash curler and its the best i've tried...

hottytoddy 04-15-2004 03:09 AM

I like the Revlon eyeglides. They're so quick & easy to put on...and they're really quite pretty.

Adelphean1851 04-16-2004 04:17 AM

I once gave lip smackers to all my sisters for recrutiment they were gem stones I had sapphire, diamond, and violet! so perfect for adpi ;). Oh, and I totally forgot my all time favorite lip color ever was from a now discontinued Revlon line called Street Wear it was a double ended all over crayon called Blood but it was the absolute best red shad ever, I still have it and will use it till it dries up since I can't get a new one I wish they hadn't got rid of that line I guess the colors were just too funky for Revlon.

AOPIHottie 04-16-2004 01:20 PM

I have not used Revlon in forever. I use Rimmels new star dazzlers cream eyeshadows and the star dazzlers lip gloss-its better than the Wet Shine Diamonds collection(IMO) because it doesnt feel cakey, and is super shiny, and actually has a decent taste to it. I also am OBSESSED with NYC lip glosses-Strawberry lemonade and cherry are awesome! So cheap, taste good, and look so shiny! I love using different colors/kinds of makeup, so I usually go for the cheap stuff, since I buy so much and change it up so much.

Jadey28 04-17-2004 06:31 PM

I like Revlon products. My favorite all-over-pencil was from the before mentioned Street Wear line. They had some funky shades and the pencils wrote wonderfully. The nail polish was nice also. Currently, I use the SkinLights Diffusion Tint, Instant Skin Brightener, and the powder/highligher. The Diffusion Tint is really light on your skin (unlike most foundations) and it catches light and makes your skin look really healthy. I use the Instant Skin Brightener to get that "just got off the beach" look. The powder is really light too.

I have some Revlon creme shadows, but they crease on my lids. In fact, all shadows crease on my lids after a few hours. Does anyone know how to fix that? I apply foundation and powder before applying the eye shadow and that doesn't seem to work.

hottytoddy 04-17-2004 08:34 PM

Also, I like the Wet/Dry eyeliners!! They go on so smooth and smudge perfect! They last too!!

DeeGeePrincess 04-17-2004 08:38 PM

i have the Revlon bronzer but other than that I dont really buy revlon except for maybe eyeliner or so...cuz in the end its way cheaper than paying 20 bucks for a eyeliner from Lancome or so.

hottytoddy 04-17-2004 08:46 PM

We have the whole DG royal family in here. I've met DGqueen, DeeGeePrincess...isn't there a LadyDG. All we need is DutchessDG nad QueenMotherDG.

BadSquirrelBeta 04-17-2004 09:42 PM

I am an Avon girl myself...

I used to be a Clinique girl in college but then got into Mary Kay after college. One day I picked up an Avon catalog and realized that they had jazzed up their products. I love the Avon Anew Skincare too. Being a lipstick diva I am in LOVE with their Glazeware. The foundation that I picked up when I was running low and didn't have time to order Avon is Physician's Formula and I really have ended up liking it. I am so hard to match foundation colors on me.

I have the same problem! It's annoying, isn't it? All the magazines say to put foundation on your lids as a primer before applying the eyeshadow and then set it with powder, but that doesn't work for me, either. It's like my eyelids sweat or something! After only an hour or so, most of my carefully applied shadow has disappeared. What works best for me is using concealer as a base for the eyeshadow rather than foundation, because it's stickier and it tends to stay better. I'm still fighting a losing battle, though.

I've never used Revlon products. I've recently got into the Bare Minerals. Yes, the stuff on the tv. It's a little expensive, but I love it. I got a free makeover on my birthday at one of their boutiques. Their makeup is wonderful, and lasts a long time too. Spend less than I did with liquid makeup.

Is that stuff really as good as they say it is? I've seen it on TV and I was wondering about it, because I don't know of anyone else who's tried it.

norcalchick 04-19-2004 12:22 AM

i've actually just started wearing bare minerals also. it does work well too. when you buy a kit, they give you a couple of different shade so it's easy to match it to your skin. i just bought an eyeshadow but haven't used it yet, so i'll see. when i used other foundations i would get this weird texture on my skin from it (i don't know  ) but with the bare minelas, it feels good. i'll wear it for awhile longer and see how i like it.

Sometimes some counters have you buy makeup afterwards. MAC's policy is to buy at least $40. And with the other counters your kind of obligated to buy some makeup if they do a full makeover. And you can't go getting a makeover everyday... and maybe some people just don't want to spend $20+ on a freakin eyeshadow...

You're talking to the wrong person here. I am the manager for an Estee Lauder counter. I give those free makeovers.

Adelphean1851 04-30-2004 03:15 AM

I just bought two really nice eyeshadows from Sally beauty supply. They are really smooth and multitonal alot like something i'd buy from MAC or sephora but for only 5 bucks. They were called sally girl.

swissmiss04 05-02-2004 12:14 AM

My mom started selling Mary Kay a few months ago so that what I wear mostly. Except for their foundation. I swear by Almay's Skin Stays Clean foundation. About the only drug store brands I've had any luck with are Almay, Sonia Kashuk (Target only), and Max Factor (only good clear mascara I've ever used).

Adelphean1851 05-04-2004 03:24 AM

I have offically become a lip gloss junkie, I am forever trying to find a drug store brand lipgloss that has the same viscosity as my favorite deparment store brands, I like a thick gloss that lasts a long time, but alas it dosen't seem like the cheaper brands can quite hack it. Everyone I try gets remanded to my "for work drawer" stuff I can take to work with me and not cry if I loose it (unlike a $12 lipglass) I guess theres just no skimping on some things.

Oh, Has anyone tried dessert beauty yet? it's the line that Jessica Simpson is promoting. I have one of their Lip plumping glosses, it's alot thinner than what I normally wear, very sheer but its pretty, and the tingly feeling is kind of fun it also tastes really good (thats the gimmick, everything tastes like dessert)
