How many of you . . .

has randomly just sit next to a person and start having a random conversation with the person? I used to do it back in my undergrad days. I think I'm going start again.

justamom 04-12-2004 01:59 PM

I do! I do!

Of course, I can talk to a wall......and have a pretty darn good conversation!:D

Dionysus 04-12-2004 02:01 PM

You can't pay me to. I'm not that crazy about others doing it to me, unless what they have to say is reallllly interesting. What I find strange is that those conversations are rarely interesting to me. It's usually about their life story or minor details about their day such as what kind of toothpaste they used to brush their teeth with. The key word is "their", I usually find these types of convos very one-sided. In other words I'm pretty private. :D

I do it all the time. I was in college before I realized that not evereyone else did.

It's served me well as a geriatric counselor. I have some REAL fun conversations with the Alzheimer's clients!!!

Bless you, and I mean that in all seriousness.

i have once in a while. sometimes i listen it and i throw in my two cents if it's something i can relate to.

Rio_Kohitsuji 04-12-2004 02:31 PM

Oh yeah :) I was forced to at an early age (both parents are heavily involved in politics). I always like to see the connections when I talk to people, plus you can learn alot :)

Rudey 04-12-2004 02:47 PM

Oh no you are those kinds of people. The annoying kind that won't shut up on the plane about the most boring things in the world. 9/10 are so boring you want to shoot them but they just want to talk...they NEEEEEEEED to talk.

I think for the most part those kinds of people are great. I have a friend who is one and I wish I was.

I never strike up random conversations with people but I am always that radom person who people feel the need to talk to. And it's often their life story.

alphagambaby 04-12-2004 04:20 PM

I never talk to random people like that. I never have had the desire to. I guess it all goes back to the fact that I was really shy as a child, and I am still pretty shy around people I don't know. Generally I'd just rather keep to myself. I'd much rather observe and analyze than talk a lot.

Senusret I 04-12-2004 04:51 PM

I'm not one of those types of people, but I usually welcome their conversations if I can easily escape from them. Out on the street, sure. In an airplane, hell no.

ThetaPrincess24 04-12-2004 09:35 PM

I've done it, though I dont do it often. I most often do it when something funny happens or a comment is made. I also have been known to do it while sitting next to a hot guy in an attempt to find out his status hehe :)

Random conversations

I strike up random conversations all the time with complete strangers. I have never figured out how I actually scored on the MB as an "introvert."

Conversation is such a lost art these days. The worlds a better place if we'd all sit down and talk to each other.

sairose 04-13-2004 06:02 PM

I talk to random people all the time. I just love to talk. :D

Glitter650 04-14-2004 02:19 AM

Well it depends... I mean not generally... but if it's the person next to me in class and something funny happens or we start talking about the homework assignment and it goes on from there.. yeah... or talk to the person waiting behind or in front of you in line for the concert yeah I'll talk to them... as long as there's some kind of commality to talk about then yeah I'll talk but just COMPLETELY randomly.... not generally going to talk to you... and I DEFINITELY don't want to hear your whole life story. If it's like rush and these people are strangers.. but I have a purpose to get to know them (and hence.. some sort of common ground) then yeah I can talk and talk and talk..

AGDee 04-14-2004 07:02 AM

I do this sometimes, depending on my mood. You have to read people though. Make eye contact, smile, you can usually tell if they're open to small talk at that point. I try to keep it positive.. no griping or complaining about life. There's enough of that already! But, to make a joke, comment on how great it is that Spring has arrived, etc. is simply being friendly.

i do it...if you can do it well, you will never be bored.

AlethiaSi 04-14-2004 08:33 AM
