Prayer Requests

Since we are all woman who honor our homes, our country, and our religious faiths... I thought that a prayer request line would be a good thread.

I'll start off...

1. My housemate/Grandmother was admitted yesterday to the hospital... she just isn't getting enough breath and she is on the 4th degree of oxygen.
For all my sisters out there that smoke... stop now. If you want to see your future come stay with me. I live with a woman that has smoked all her life and now she has cancer and emphsiam (didn't spell it right, sorry).

2. My boyfriend thinks that he is going to die...don't ask... I just ask that you might ask for him to not stress over this, until he sees a doctor next week. He is getting sharp random pains in the head and it is freaking him out.

3. I still haven't heard about the job that I interviewed for last week. I was told that I would know on Monday but never heard from anyone.... I just chalked it up to getting one of those nice but evil letters of rejection... but then on Tuesday I got a call that I hadn't filled out one of the forms (which I wasn't asked to fill out) so I am praying that that means that they are still trying to figure out who fits... giving me a chance still.

I don't know about other religions, but I know that my faith allows for prayer whenever and wherever. So if you can, take a few moments right now, just to lift up these prayers.

Let me know if you have any needs of prayer.

Loyally in EP to all my sisters everywhere.

I have something that sounds similar from the little bit you said. Called cluster headaches. They affect men more often than women (90% are men). They are not harmful, just painful. Mine last a very short length of time. I've had one this year and none for about a year before that. When I had them about two years ago I was having about 2 a week. I'll remember him though.

greeklawgirl 04-08-2004 07:04 PM

Arin, you and yours are in my prayers.

I would appreciate it if you all would keep us in our thoughts when we move next week. This is a huge transition for both of us and we will need lots of good thoughts and support sent our way!

(PS: this is a great idea for a thread.)

Power of Prayer is so mighty

Thank you to everyone who said a prayer for me... God does answer prayers because I got the job!!!! Starting no later than May 3, I will be a full-time state employee working with the Fayette County Drug Court!!!!

So thank you all for hearing my needs for the last week.

My grandmother is still in the hospital, so if you all could continue to remember her in your prayers I would appreciate it.

Thank you....

Let me know if I can help anyone of you in anything.
Loyally,
Arin Cox

okay - i don't usually ask for prayers but this really means a lot to me. i applied to several graduate/ph.d. programs in psychology this semester and i've only heard back from 2 of the 8 (both of those were no's).

what it comes down to is that according to APA, april 15 is the respond by date for people accepting positions, so i'm just wondering why the heck i haven't heard from the other 6 schools by now.

part of me is REALLY hoping that i'm on some kind of waiting list or something and that maybe i'll still get a letter or something <--one of my profs seems to think this too.

but the other part of me is really freaking out that i'll be getting like 6 rejection letters in like several days. ehhhhhhh...

i'd like to call or e-mail just to find out what's going on but i don't wanna be hella pushy or desperate sounding. ya know? but this is sincerely KILLING me inside. it really really sucks just having to sit here and wait for somebody else to decide my future.

i'm not sure what kind of prayer request that really is (maybe just a prayer to keep me sane)- but if you figure it out and feel like praying - thank you!

marissa

greeklawgirl 04-13-2004 12:29 PM

Marissa, I'll be praying.

I'm leaving in a few minutes to (hopefully) settle the first contract I've negotiated all by my lonesome. Please pray that it goes well!

AlphaGamDiva 04-14-2004 12:34 AM

oh, thank you!

this is a fantastic thread.

i posted a bit about it in chit chat, and i don't think i'll go into much more detail here as it is uber personal, but please just keep me and my b/f in your prayers for the rest of the week. there's a lot of drama going on.....and it's really showing in our relationship.

also, i have just been depressed for the past week and i can't seem to shake it. it happens every now and then....was first triggered 3 yrs ago with my friend's passing.......so i know it'll go away eventually....but with all this other stuff going on, it's making it worse.

just please keep me in your prayers.....you have no idea how much i appreciate it!

AGDLynn 04-14-2004 06:55 AM

Arin, hubby lived in Fayette Co (AL) for a fewyears; we lived in Fayette Co (Ga) for 4 years (he works there now...it's the neighboring county. Both h.s. mascots are the Tigers!

Marissa...here's saying a big prayer for you to get the school you want.

Monica..sorry u are having a rough time. Thinking of you!

Maria, prayers worked!:D

Tanya - I've dealt with migraines so I feel your pain...no pun intended, lol.

mu_agd 04-14-2004 07:07 AM

my thoughts are with y'all.

GtownGirl98 04-14-2004 08:36 AM

I seem to be asking for prayers alot lately, this just seems to be the month for them.

Y'all know that I live with my grandmother and that she has been in the hospital for a week now. Well yesterday we got the news that her cancer had spread and today Hopise (spelling?) will make it's first house call. This is a really tough thing for all of us. For me because I live with her, but also because I want her to be at my wedding (whenever that maybe) and then to see her first great-granddaughter (which will also be a long time from now).

Her mother is 92 years old, so longevity is in the genes... smoking has cut them in two.

If you are a smoker.... DON'T SMOKE... STOP NOW... GET HELP... if not for you, for your granddaughters and the memories you'll miss.

If you can just keep my grandmother in your prayers, pray to keep her spirit up and the pain away, I would appreciate it.
Thank you for all the prayers.

greeklawgirl 04-14-2004 10:58 AM

Arin, I believe in the power of prayer and I will continue to do so for your grandmother.

My father-in-law struggles with emphysema and we live in fear that one day he might contract lung cancer. Despite seeing their dad suffering, 3 of his daughters continue to smoke. I don't get it at all. :( If you ever need to talk, I'm here.

greeklawgirl 04-15-2004 12:09 PM

We recieved some shocking news last night and I'd like to request thoughts and prayers. My mother-in-law went to the doctor's because she has been experiencing times where all of a sudden, she wouldn't be able to see out of her right eye. She thought that this was a complication from her diabetes.

It turns out that her arteries are clogged and the episodes where she hasn't been able to see have been small strokes. They sent her to a cardiologist and he wants to do an angioplasty right away. At this point, they're just waiting for HMO approval to schedule the surgery.

Please keep her in your thoughts as she is a very precious woman to me and my family.

Also, I'm moving tomorrow, so I won't be on the boards as frequently until Monday or Tuesday.

DeltaBetaAGD 04-16-2004 06:27 PM

Maria, This is horrible news... I am sorry. You are in my thoughts and prayers. See you tomorrow!

BadSquirrelBeta 04-17-2004 09:03 PM

I am keeping all of you in my thoughts...

And, can we please think of our Panhellenic sister, Dru, (the missing student from ND), as it seems that news reports have been reporting that her body has been found.

Let's keep her family and Gamma Phi Beta sisters in our thoughts.

gcsmith 04-18-2004 07:50 PM

more prayers

While back at Georgetown this past weekend I found out that a young woman on campus...not sure if she is greek but it really doesn't matter...was having terrible migraines. so she went to the ER and there it was discovered that she has 2 tumors on her brain and one on her spine. She is in surgery either today or tomorrow for at least 7 hours and the best that can come of it is that she will lose her hearing. She is only a junior. please keep this woman in your thoughts.

Thanks so much

AGDee 04-18-2004 10:19 PM

While this is minor compared to brain surgery, please pray for my son. He broke his hand Friday night and they weren't able to set it so he has to see an orthopedic surgeon tomorrow... 50-50 chance that he'll need surgery or pins to get things back together again.

LIEP,

Dee

cutiepatootie 04-18-2004 10:46 PM

I am sorry to intrude but as a triad sister i would ask you keep me in your prayers. This is very senistive info here but i too believe in the power of prayer and my religion ( christian) means a great deal to me. I just found out this week( on my 35 bday of all days) i will have to have surgery this coming month and am very nervous about it so if you can all keep me in yoru prayers i would be very grateful.

GtownGirl98 04-19-2004 08:40 AM

Erin... we really missed you this weekend... it always seems like there is a volleyball thing whenever we get together. :(

I hadn't heard about the fellow Georgetonian, but I will keep her in my prayers.

Surgery isn't as bad as it is made out to be... I've been through it... really just relax and put your trust in the Lord.

As for broken bones... I broke my femur when I was in K-garten.. and was in trackion for a month on the old people ward... only floor that had nurses full time. I'll keep your son in my prayers.

Maria, I hope all is well. Your in my thoughts also... wasn't last week a rollercoaster ride for us both...

So... I don't really know where my grandmother stands right now... she isn't doing well. I'm not staying at the house by myself at night anymore because my dad and aunts don't want me to be alone if something were to happen.... so that isn't a good sign.

So just remember my grandmother and pray that it isn't painful when she does leave us.

Have a good week...
Arin

AGDee 04-20-2004 10:18 PM

My son's surgery is scheduled for Saturday. It should be outpatient, unless there are complications.

Dee

greeklawgirl 04-23-2004 02:24 PM

Hi girls---

I'm on vacation right now, but I had a few minutes to check my email and GC and I wanted to give you an update on my MIL.

Her angiogram came back and she is about 99% blocked in one artery. To complicate matters, her carotid artery has shriveled. Her cardiologist said that he is amazed that she has not already suffered a massive stroke.

She will be going into surgery, probably on Monday morning. She'll be in ICU the first day and then spending a few days recuperating in the hospital. She will have to go back into surgery in a few months to work on the other artery, as the operation is too big to do everything at once.

I'm coming back into town on Monday night. My 4 sisters-in-law will be there for the first day or two after the surgery, but once she comes home from the hospital my eldest sister-in-law and I will be shouldering primary responsibility for her.

Please pray for all of us, as I will be praying for all of you!

Dee--I hope everything goes well for the little one.

AGDLynn 04-23-2004 09:01 PM

Glad to hear from you, Maria. When you didn't show up for chat, we knew something must be happening, lol. !!

GtownGirl98 04-24-2004 11:36 AM

As I seat here in the hospital, with my grandmother just returned from surgery.... I just wanted to keep you all updated and to check in on everyone else.

My Mama Lizzy just had a schunt (sorry about spelling) put in to drain her lung and will have another one put in on Monday. These are meant to elivate her breathing problems and make her more comfortable.

I have three days left with my old job and then two days off to hopefully spend in the garden and not the hospital. So I don't know how often I will be online after this week is over.

Maria, I'm glad that they found the problems with your MIL before something really bad happened. I know that your stress will increase before this is all over. I will pray that you and your family will find a way to relieve each other so that not one or two people are shouldering all the responsiblity. The problem my family is having is that we all want to be here.

So... my thoughts and prayers are with everyone, even if I am not here.

AGDee 04-24-2004 07:08 PM

My son's surgery went fine. He is at his Dad's house and experiencing relatively little pain. His biggest dilemma is that the hand he broke is the one that has the thumb which he sucks on it! With the splint he was able to still suck his thumb (although it looked hilarious) but with the cast he is not! Might be time to quit! He is also no longer able to play playstation or game boy, which he had managed to manuever with the splint. On the up side, he can get his cast signed now, for which he is very happy!

Dee

agd4rie 04-24-2004 10:41 PM

Good news Dee! Mary Cathryn was in a cast for 6 weeks over Xmas. I am so glad it was winter rather than now. Even though she had her wrist cast changed every 2 weeks -it stunk. We spent the extra for the waterproof so she could ski after the holidays and that one was the worst. I can't image how it ripe they would be now with the high humidity and 88* weather here.

Too bad about the thunb. Truly necessity is the mother of invention!

greeklawgirl 04-30-2004 01:11 PM

MIL went through her surgery with flying colors! Her doctors were so pleased with her progress that they let her come home last night. She is so happy to be out of the hospital. :)

Thanks everyone for the good wishes and prayers! We really appreciate them.

AGDee 05-01-2004 12:42 AM

I'm glad she's doing so well, Maria!

AGDLynn 05-19-2004 11:32 AM

Sad news..

I only know the bare news but I wanted to pass this on.

Angela, the other GTau Co-Chapter Advisor, received horrible news last night that her young brother passed away suddenly last night. I think he was around 24.

Please keep Angela and her family in your prayers.

greeklawgirl 05-19-2004 11:54 AM

Oh my God, that is horrible news. I will be praying for her and her family. It is always a tragedy when you lose someone so young. :(

AGDLynn 05-21-2004 12:11 AM

I went to visitation for Angela's brother Jay. Angela was so touched her AGD sisters showed up..where else would we be.

She was also amazed with how many friends Jay had that she hadn't known about He seemed like he was a very special person.

AGDLynn 05-21-2004 12:20 AM

Another quick post, lol.

Just learned that GTau's Rec. Advisor (Theta Delta alumna) has moved her Oct wedding up to this weekend in Hilton Head. New hubby has volunteered to go to Iraq!

Thoughts, prayers and congratulations to Katie (although she probably doesn't read GC, lol).

ilovemyglo 05-27-2004 12:23 PM

I hate to ask this,
my aunt (whom I live right around the corner and I am extremely close to!) is in the hospital.
They don't know what is wrong, but Tuesday her white blood cell count was 12,000 and then last night when they admitted her it was at 22,000 (24 hours).... the norm is around 10.

Just please keep her in your prayers. She has always been so supportive of me- and my Alpha Gam endeavors. Like buying a little squirrel or talking about how she wished she had gone to college so she could have experienced a sorority- she even visited my chapter and donated three sets of dishes (good ones!) to the houses.

Anyway, just please if you don't mind, a little "Hey i hope Sarah's aunt Billie is okay, take care and watch out for her if you don't mind" to God, Buddha, Allah, or whomever you feel the need to pray to.

I appreciate it.
LIEP,
Sarah

greeklawgirl 05-27-2004 12:31 PM

Of course, Sarah. I hope the doctors figure out whats happening and treat it right away. Prayers for you, too, because I know you will need strength and support also.

GtownGirl98 05-27-2004 03:46 PM

My prayers are with you and your family, Sarah. Is she in Louisville?

AGDLynn 05-27-2004 07:45 PM

Sarah, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Hope that Billie is well soon!

ilovemyglo 05-28-2004 02:34 PM

She's doing some better.
Apparently (and finally!) they figured out she has some kind of horrid bacterial infection in her kidney- her kidney is roughly three times what it should be. She feels like her back is breaking. The infection is so bad it may get in to her blood stream, but they have her on round the clock antibiotics (three of them, one of which just came out for this specifi bacteria) and pain killers. They say by Sunday she should feel good enough to go home but they aren't promising.
Thank you all!
I sat up at the hospital with her for awhile last night and made her laugh. We got really close while I was in college and she moved back to Louisville in99, right around the corner from my family! She's also the person I asked to be my sponsor when I was confirmed in 2001.

Pike1483 05-29-2004 03:14 AM

Great Idea

Dear Gams,
AWESOME Idea to have a prayer request forum! I'm gonna make one for our Pike forum! I hope it is a big hit. I love Alpha Gams, and they are the classiest ladies at my school, and are our sisters! Keep up the good work!

if y'all don't mind praying for a Pike, Ben Mayhair, he's an older member from my chapter that is fighting colon cancer. He's doing well, but still needs lots of prayer.

Thanks! Phi Phi Squirrel Squirrel -Jared

AGDee 05-29-2004 07:43 AM

Sarah,

It's good they found out what is wrong with your aunt so that they can treat it. Kidney things can be extremely painful. You are so sweet to be at her bedside to cheer things up. Hospitals are very lonely and sometimes scary places to be. I hope she is fine and will keep her in my prayers.

Jared,

Thanks for the kind words about the AGDs at your school! Colon cancer is so taxing on a person. I will definitely pray for your Pike brother. I am at very high risk for colon cancer myself since I have Crohn's Disease and I have a grandmother who died from it as well. It's a tough one, to be sure.

Dee

ilovemyglo 06-01-2004 11:25 AM

YAY!
She's home and doing much better. They released her yesterday. Her husband is gone all week on business so I plan on going over there everynight to help cook and clean and stuff. Just because she is home doesnt mean she is 100%, ya know? She lives right around the corner.

Thank you all for your thoughts.

I will def pray for your brother, Jared.
My father has had polyps and is at high risk because of his father.
It is a scary and painful thing to go through.
With family and friends supporting him he can hopefully make it through.

Sarah

LeslieAGD 06-01-2004 11:32 AM

Sarah, I'm glad your aunt is home and recovering!

AGDLynn 06-01-2004 07:45 PM

Sarah, that's wonderful!! Glad she is home. I know that will make her feel better faster.

Jared. I will be thinking of your brother. My real brother is also a Pike so I feel a special connection to PKA.
