What up GC, just thought I would start a interesting thread. Can you all name Pastors, Bishops, Ministers who you know to be Omega's first, and then those you know to be Greeks.

Not sure of his designation but he was president of the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc. and organized the Baton Rouge Bus Boycott of 1953.

Herbert Shaw - Former Senior Bishop AME Zion Church(Omega)

I've only seen the designation of Reverend.

Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray, first Black woman Episcopal priest in the U.S. (Delta)

How can I forget I just heard her preach and she was good. She helped me resolve some conflict.

Rev. Carolyn Knight in Atlanta is a Delta. :cool:

Rev. Gardner C. Taylor, pastor emeritus of Concord Baptist (?) Church, in N.Y. and one of the most eloquent men I've ever heard speak is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi.

My Grandfather who became Pastor Emeritus of Trinity Baptist Church in Los Angeles, and has its community center named after him was a Sigma.

Hey Ladygreek, I live and minister here in L.A., what is your Grandfathers name?

I doubt if you know of him, he passed in 1966. His name was Dr. Jonathan Lyle Caston. He was also a PHA Mason. Trinity is off of Jefferson and Arlington (but then you probably know that.)

No, I don't. I only went to LA to visit during the summers, and to the University of Redlands for 1.5 years. However, my step-Grandmother is from Riverside originally.

Dr. Boyd spoke at my church during last year (maybe 2 years ago?) Women's Day activities, she SHO CAN preach.

Is your pastor an Alpha? A DC pastor did my church's revival last year. (That's a shame. I can't remember his name or his church's name but I remember that he is an Alpha - :o). He told me then that he knew Gwen well and that she had spoken for the Women's Day at his church for two years.

By the way, she is not Dr. :) She is noted as the first African American woman to graduate from the Yale School of Engineering (she has a Masters.)

Pastor Fredrick Douglas Haynes of Friendship West Baptist Church is an Alpha and as he likes to say about other ministers "He can preach the horns off a billy goat!"

You go to Ebenezer?!? I loved that church with all my heart!!! I joined there when I was a student at Howard before I transfered. I have yet to find another church like that one, but I know "the best is yet to come!!!" (like Rev. Dr. Grainger used to always say) Give your neighbor a Holy Hug.



He preached at a church here in Nashville a few weeks ago and that man can PREACH!!!

Yeah, I know. I'm a huge fan of Rev. Taylor's. His eloquence at President Clinton's first inaugural blew me away. He was later awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, also.

I collect great oratory, and have been trying to reach the church to obtain some of his sermons/speeches, so far unsuccessfully. If you can hook a bruh up, PM me.

I joined the New Birth Baptist Church today and it is pastored by Rev. Terrell Murphy, a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc..

Oh I almost forgot Rev. Clifford Jones, pastor of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha.

Bishop William Devereaux of the 6th Episcopal District (Atlanta) in the AME Church is a member of Omega Psi Phi and his wife is a member of Delta Sigma Theta.

That's funny, my old church, Cornerstone Baptist, (the OTHER Baptist church in Brooklyn, located a few short blocks away) was pastored by Harry S. Wright, a Kappa, as well.
