consultants for your headquarters....
anyone been one? want to be one? or in the process of trying to be one?
i really want to be one of our educational leadership consultants (elc). and i had my first phone interview last week. it went really well, and they told me they were impressed with my application. so i was stoked. now i just have to wait to hear back if they want to fly me out to headquarters for a second interview. |
Good luck! I was never an ELC, and I regret it.

I was a chapter consultant for 92-93. Hardest job I ever had! But I learned an awful lot about my organization, myself, organizational politics & Greek life overall. Got to see the country (OK, the eastern part of it...never got farther west than St. CLoud State). Coming from a little school, it was an excellent experience b/c I got to see what it was like to belong to huge systems like Florida State and tiny systems w/no NPC like Mars Hill. Some of the highest highs & lowest lows I ever experienced, though...from colonizing a new chapter & bid-matching to quota several times, to visiting a chapter on the brink of closure. Very emotional, but priceless all the same.
Good luck to you! |

I have thought about it. However, I'm from a weak chapter and only heald one office so I don't think they'd take me. Also, I'm out of college now and I think they usually hire girls right out of school. It would be interesting though!

AGD has both a traveling Leadership Consultant and a Leadership Advisor--an alumna that attends graduate school where we have a chaper currently "struggling" or needing help.
At the end of my senior year I was very determined to be an LC. I wanted to help my Fraternity while traveling the country and Canada. I sent in my application and resume and awaited word on their decision. However, an unfortunate situation of a personal nature happened, and I was forced to apologize and ask the powers that be to take my application out of the running. I was disappointed, but I think everything eventually worked out. I do hope to apply for an LA position if and when I do return to graduate school. Hopefully it'll be at a campus that might be in need of a Leadership Advisor. :) |

LAs are all about kicking our chapters up a notch to the next level! (With all due respect to Emeril, lol) |
Fielders....
Field Secretary, Field Supervisor, Consultant, whatever the name.
I was one for TKE 1957-60. Visited 95 chapters, started 17...which I think is a record still standing. It was a wonderful, low paying, but tremendous experience. I ended up with four degrees, finished as a dean, but the field experience I got was better'n all the other stuff. I met several field reps from many other outfits, virtually all said the same. Aside from loving my Fraternity, it was the single best experience I ever had in life. If you want to travel, broaden your horizons, do good for us all, jump at it! It is a wonderful trek, and I have helped others do it, a great preparation for life, sales and education. Again...go for it...you will love it...or something is wrong... Old Teke fielder...still playing fraternity and it's still great! |
I thought about being a FC...but somehow I don't think EO would want anyone from my chapter:p
I DO want to be a recruitment specialist. Call me weird, but I LOVE recruitment. All of it. The planning, the parties, the voting, the drama- EVERYTHING. But that is not paid.:( |
I am very pleased that a former Chapter President from one of the chapters I served as Division Vice President is now a Delt Chapter Consultant and is having a wonderful time.
I had an e-mail from him earlier this week reporting that he had visited my home chapter (Beta) at Ohio University and that things are going well there. A former president at one of my other chapters served as a chapter consultant for two years, and also loved it. Go for it. |
I applied to be a Collegaite Development Consultant for DG this year. I was one of the 20 women to be offered an interview in Columbus in February. Only 10 women are chosen. Unfortunately, I wasn't one of them. But the experience of interviewing and meeting the other candidates was one in itself. I would always encourage someone who feels strongly about their organization to apply for this type of position. I actually have a friend who has been chosen as a FIJI field secretary for the next two years. I told him that I'd live vicariously through him since he's going to be doing what I wanted to do!

good news...and bad news...
i got an email from the man in charge if interviewing the consultants for my headquarters. i have been selected for a second interview, and they need my availability because they want to fly me to our headquarters for the interview. the bad news is that i have had some unforseen incidents happen (none witch i care to discuss...so please dont ask) and i may not be elligible. i called my headquarters today and they said they would discuss it and get back to me.... so keep your fingers crossed!! |
I hope everything works out for you.
If its meant to be, you can make it happen  |
Good Luck Josh! My fingers are crossed for you!

|
Josh, that is such great news!!!! :D Good luck!!!
|
That's great news!! Good luck! :D
And not to bring you down, but if you don't get it, remember there are plenty of other ways to serve your fraternity! I was crushed when I wasn't chosen to be a TC for my fraternity (I made it to the final interviews), but I've since found many other ways to stay involved. |
Congrats and Good Luck!
|
Josh, if you get the position, always call me or Erik Conard! He was there I wasnt, just a want to be!
But, EC and I have known each other for more years than most of you were born!:o But, is it hard, Yes, is it easy, no, is it fullfilling, yes!:) Hey Dude, If You get the chance, do it! Down the road, it will make a lot of difference in you life, Right E C! |
i just found out today that i need to make a 20 minute presentation infront of my national board of directors at the 2nd interview...i'm nervous as hell!!
|
You need to remember that the board of directors are your brothers, not some group of intimidating men, but your brothers. Smile, take a deep breath and be yourself!
|
What I remember most about instructor school training.
The audience doesn't know your script so if you happen to forget something, keep going and act like whatever you say next is supposed to be in the speech. Best of luck!:D |
One of our sisters who's graduating Saturday is going to a consultant for KD this next year. She's an AMAZING woman and she racked up awards at our last convention. I wouldn't be suprised if she was a future national president for KD.
|
Josh, where you at dude??????
Everyone is interested!!!! All we can do at this point is wish you the very best of luck! |

|

|
Josh,
Where are you and what, if anything, has happened. |
I have a question for the board: what exactly is a consultant? Is that position(s) = National Officer? I would love some clarification since I have noticed the differences in structure and usage of certain terminology between IFC/NPC and NPHC organizations... Thank you in advance. :) |
suntzu,
A consultant (they have slightly varying names) is a recent graduate who travels from chapter to chapter and acts as a representative of the national organization. They help the chapters with rush, officer transition and things like that. They do this for one year. Some groups also have residential-type consultants that stay with one chapter for an extended period of time. They often stay with colonies that are on their way to becoming a chapter or sometimes chapters that are in a rebuilding phase. |

The full title for Phi Kappa Psi is Educational Leadership Consultant (ELC), and this is more than semantics. Part of the job description involves activities that are educational, and therefore, part of the consultants salary and expenses are underwritten by our Endowment Fund. A better way of looking at it is like this; ELCs either visit chapters with no known major problems (most visits) or visit chapters with problems (rare, but it happens.) Also, one ELC will be on the ground for pro-active extension projects to help our Director of Expansion. In the case of visiting a chapter with no known problems, the visit happens once per year, and usually lasts 3-4 days. The ELC will visit with relevant administration officials, local involved alumni, and, of course, the chapter. A chapter evaluation is done covering a broad range of chapter operations. Also, workshops are performed for the chapters based on each chapter's needs. In the case of problem chapters, we send staff based on need. Sometimes this involves an ELC. On rare occasion, it may involve sending our Executive Director. It depends on the problem. |
