CARS!

Sisterfriends:
I'm interested in knowing what everyone is driving, how it's holding up, would you recommend that car?

Currently in a 95 Gran Am that's paid for. Minor problems so far, but only 55,000 miles.
Thinking of buying a new something. Thinking Toyato SUV, the new one that's out.

Steeltrap 05-21-2001 03:02 PM

I'm driving a 2000 Mazda Protege and would recommend it. Gas mileage is 26 city and 31 freeway.
The car's holding up great, even though I've put 21,500 miles on it during its first 10 months. That's because I used to commute 180-190 miles a day for two months.

Convinced 05-21-2001 03:39 PM

I am in a '98 Chevrolet Cavalier and I am sooo tired of it! My mom bought it for me, so it's paid for. But my air went out the other day so I'm planning on getting a Mitsubishi Galant this weekend.

SweetestDiva 05-21-2001 05:12 PM

I have a 2001 Toyota Corolla Sport. I love it mainly because I've only seen one other person with one since I've gotten it... I like being original. We've always had at least one Toyota car at all times in our household - once my mama gets stuck on a type of car SHE GETS STUCK. Which is why she's on her 3rd Crown Victoria, I guess. I love my Corolla Sport mainly because of the interior, which is completely black. All the dial/number thingies are red, and the steering wheel is leather-wrapped with red stitching. I just feel so.. sporty! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif I digress.

Anyway, I think the Toyota SUV you're talking about is the Sequoia. My cousin and her husband just got one a week ago and she absolutely LOVES it. I'm not sure about mileage and all that, but it's beautiful! Good luck! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I have a 1998 Honda CRV (sport utility) I bought it new, and I haven't had any problems, I just keep up with regular maintenance.

I agree my mom has had a Toyota forever and I got used to it. Handles very well, and is reliable!!
About gas mileage and such, I drive many miles so I have to fill up about 25 bucks every Sunday, but when I wasn't doing those miles I would see the gas sit in the tank and I was happy about that.

Maybe because gas prices have rose, I feel like I gas up more, but not really.

ZChi4Life 05-21-2001 06:08 PM

Well, I HAD a 2000 Jeep Cherokee. The gas mileage wasn't the great (I think 17 city...forgot the highway mileage). But it was a wonderful piece of machinery. However, some awful boys stole it http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif so now I'm back to driving my 93 Dodge Shadow. It's an ok car. It used to be a lot better when I first got it (had lots of pick up and go), but now it's old and sorta falling apart.
My mom has a 96 Grand Cherokee (bought in 96) and it's very nice! I'm driving it right now b/c I had to go outta town. Again, not the best gas mileage...but it still runs well. It's fully loaded, so it's got lots of little gadgets and stuff to play with which I LOVE!

A few posts back, I told Greekchat that I was getting a new car in August and have been doing research on cars. The Toyota Carolla happens to be on my "short list." Your post was convincing of the reliability of the car over the short term, while my Consumer Reports guidelines have informed me of the long term and I'm feeling really good about that.

buterscotch1 05-22-2001 02:44 PM

I'M DRIVING A 2001 NISSAN ALTIMA, AND I LOVE IT. IT'S GREAT ON GAS, AND IT RIDES SMOOTHLY. IT'S ACTUALLY MY THIRD NISSAN, (WHAT CAN I SAY, I'M KINDA STUCK ON THESE CARS http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif!!!) AND I'VE LOVED THEM ALL. MY MECHANIC CLAIMS WITH REGULAR MAINTAINANCE, IT COULD EASILY REGISTER 200,000 MILES WITHOUT ANY SERIOUS PROBLEMS!!!!! NOW THIS IS THE KIND OF CAR FOR ME.

HeartbrAKA 05-22-2001 02:59 PM

I have a 1999 Honda Accord LX Sedan, bought it in 2000. I have to say that it is my favorite car so far, I've had a Hyundai(first car http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif), Nissan Sentra, Honda Accord, and now another Accord. Only thing is they are really popular here in the bay area so everybody and they step-grandmama got one, not to mention it's the #1 most stolen car in AmerAKA. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif But I love it and if somebody DARES try and take my car, I'mma havta cut 'cha!

HeartbrAKA 05-22-2001 03:03 PM

Oh and it's VERY RELIABLE..The last oneI had was an 89 Accord and it registered 190,000 miles and was still drivin' smooth with no problems. Great on gas too.....

AKA4MJ 05-22-2001 03:11 PM

I love my 2000 Camary http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

I never thought I would drive a Toyota till I experienced it for myself. I have nothing bad to say about the car or company. I have received superb customer service every time. Especially the time I was gulity of "bad math" and my check was returned. They did not charge me a return check fee or a late fee, NOTHING!!!! Though my next car will be a Benz, I love my Toyota! Remember the commercial: TOYOTA, With the guy jumping in the air.....

Miss. Mocha 05-22-2001 03:35 PM

I have a 1996 Olds Achieva, just recently broke down on me, with 160,000 miles on it. Never had too many problems with it before it went out. Heard it needs a new engine. My hubby claims he'll put one in there and drive it for another 160,000 miles.

Just bought a Mitsubishi two weeks ago. Can't really comment on it, yet. It's my first foreign car.

Nikki,
We've had our share of Corollas - my daddy had a '91, then we got a '97, and now the '01. We've never had problems with any of them. I don't think we ever owned a car that wasn't a Toyota or Ford, come to think of it... Anyway, good luck. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

InquiringMind 05-23-2001 11:51 PM

Currently driving a 1999 Civic EX. I had a 1997 Civic DX, but someone hit me a while back so I got the 99. I wanted a Grand Am, but my dad was stuck on the value and reliability of Hondas. They are good cars, good on gas mileage, low maintenance, and they're cute. I still want my 4Runner or Tahoe, but that's another story.....

Onenine08 05-24-2001 12:22 AM

Well, my during the week conservative car is a Honda Accord 5spd (I've never liked Honda Accords, but I never look gift horses in the mouth either). It holds up very well. Its a 95 and I have put alot of miles on it (I commuted to work 100 miles a day, 5 days a week, for 3 years). The only consistent problem I have is replacing the CV axles. My weekend car is my 83 Mazda Rx7 (of course its a 5spd too). I've had it forever and it has yet to put me down. I road tripped on it like a mad woman when I was in college, so it probably has about a million miles on it. I had some customizing done to it, and it will be a collectable in 2 years -- thats my baby.

WenD08 05-24-2001 04:23 PM

i concur w/Inquiring Mind's dad. i drive a
'99 Honda Accord EX Coupe and i love it. i've only taken it in for regular service appts., not for anything serious. this is my 4th Honda. i'm kinda stuck on foreign cars.

I am also the happy owner of a Honda Accord EX Coupe...I simply love it!

onesavvydiva 05-29-2001 02:11 PM

I just got a new car back in March. There was a sistafriend who said she was interested in getting a Galant...if you do get one...make sure you get one that's later than a 1998, or older than a 1993. 1994-1997 cars had a lot of mechanical problems. When I first went to get my car, I got a Mitsubishi Galant, and I really liked it...a couple of days later, when I went back in to finish up all of the financial paperwork (I had originally went in on a Friday, so they let me drive it over the weekend), I wad dealing with a black man, instead of the other white guy that I'd been dealing with. Right before I 'signed on the dotted line', the guy blurted out..."Ma'am I can't sell you this car!" so I am like WTF??? So he told me that the car had transmission problems, and if I drove it off the lot, it probably wouldn't have lasted 6 months!!! So needless to say, I thanked him for his honesty, but I still couldn't buy from a dealership that was so sleazy, so I took my business elsewhere.

I ended up getting a 2000 Nissan Altima GXE, I love it!!! Her name is Silvie ('cause she's silver,) but my friends call her 'The Ultimatum!" But my car runs really smooth, lots of leg room for me, ( I am almost 5' 10") and a lot of trunk space, the back seat could be bigger...(me and my friends just went to the beach), but other than that, I am extremely pleased...and she's good on gas also!

bellebeaua 05-29-2001 04:58 PM

Currently, I am driving a Mazda Miata M Edition. This car is the coolest! Although it only has 2 seats it suits my dog Myles and I just fine. The car is excellent on gas and can fit into the smallest parking spaces which is essential in NYC. I thought that I was going to have a problem with cargo space, but I pack my trunk and use bungie cords to haul the load; it works out great!

JadeRein 05-29-2001 07:45 PM

I am currently driving a '91 Honda Civic VX to and from school. I drive a '98 Dodge Ram 3500 Diesel when I am working on the farm and I plan on buying a '02 Lincoln LS for my graduation present.

thesweetestone 06-30-2001 02:58 AM

I HAVE A 2000 DODGE NEON. I LOVE IT BUT IT HAS ALMOST 50000 MILES. I DRIVE HOME FROM SCHOOL EVERY WEEK. I HAVEN'T HAD AN PROBLEMS WITH IT.

My Mother has a 2001 Altima and she loves it!! The Altima is a really nice car, this is her second one. I'm driving a 94 Isuzu Rodeo...this car is pretty decent, gets me from point A to point B and beyond, but I'm getting something new for graduation! I have no idea what I want...something in the SUV range, I suppose. The Honda Accords (2 doors) are nice! I'm considering that as well. The new truck from Toyota is very nice though. Have any of you guys heard of the Isuzu Axiom? From the looks of things...they're nice, they look similar to the Acura truck that's out. So many choices...

I can vouch with you on that, HeartbrAKA. I have a 1988 Honda Accord that I had for almost 3 years that's got 184K miles on it, of which I put over 45K miles on it. I am the 2nd owner of the car, it has given me only minor problems. It has had a new radiator, tune up, tires, brake adjustment, and recently, a new clutch. But it represented to the Nth degree, even though a deer wrecked my car earlier this year and I didn't have $$ to fix it b/c I dropped my comprehensive coverage.

But you know what I love best about my car? IT IS PAID FOR! I haven't had to make a car payment in a year and a half.

Anyway, that's my car. Oh, and her name is Mahogani. Represent, girl! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

I just bought the car of my dreams... a 2000 BMW 328 ci coupe! I had been looking at that car ever since it came out. Before that I had a 1992 Honda Accord EX coupe on which I racked up 175,000 miles. I'm hoping that the BMW holds up just as well. I wonder what I should name it....

Wow we are very similiar. Back in 1997 I bought my dream car which was a 1997 BMW 328I, I also still have a 1991 Honda accord Ex. I see you like the coupes, and I prefer the sedans. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif The BMW seems to be going just as well as the honda. Just make sure you do all the things to the beemer that you did to the honda.

I am currently driving a 1999 Mitsubishi Galant. Overall it is an OK car. We have taken it back twice for minor RECALL's though. We have about 50,000 miles on it, and it has been in one minor accident with one of the tires.

I also have a 1993 Nissan Altima (paid for, Praise the Lord!!) and it hasn't hardly given me any major problems. We have put 145,000 and the air still blows cold (knock on wood!)! If it goes out, we plan to get another Altima!

Jorrie96 07-11-2001 07:55 AM

Thanks so much Kiml122! What can I say except "Great minds think alike". Have you found that you have to put a lot into maintainence for the BMW?

RAYZON 07-11-2001 08:00 AM

I love my oh so favorite black suburban!!!

The Original Ape 07-11-2001 08:37 AM

I have a 1996 Chevy Rockwood Van, and it's aight. I haven't done anything to it besides tune up, oil change, and tires. I had to change a sensor once too. That's it though.
Good for travelin' and Drive-ins http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

SPOILED07 07-12-2001 03:05 AM

greetings sorors and sisterfriends: im new here to greekchat.com. ive heard many great things about greekchat and this group in particular so i must say im glad to be a part of you all. but on to the question, i drive a 2002 escalade. its new so i havent had any problems out of it. i think it will be a good vehicle for me to travel in so i hope it holds up to its standards. but over all its a good truck.

Riley 07-12-2001 07:59 AM

I currently drive a 97 Saturn 5 speed and I haven't hd any problems with it so far. When I took her,(Sasha), to get her her oiled changed the guy told me to keep up with the maintainence since he has saturns come in with close to 200k on them.

Camrys are also good cars. My mother has a 93' she bought new. Two major accidents later the car is still going and going and.....

Jorrie96,

Actually I have found so far that the maintainence has been cool. I have had mine since '97 and I have had only 1 problem and it just happened now. Of course now the the warranty is thru I would have this problem, so I am looking at about $500 out of my pocket to get it fixed.

I drive a 2001 Mercury Cougar. The color is blue. It's alright in the snow due to traction control. However, next year my grandfather is trading it in for a Ford Escape since I have been run off the road numerous times since the Cougar is too low to the ground.

beauty_6049 02-10-2003 04:23 PM

I have a 2001 Ford Mustang with about 41,000 miles on it. It is definitely a fun car in the summer but plan on parking it during the winter months when there is snow. I've only had it for 6 months and since there was bad snow in my city, I had to park it in front of my house until the snow cleared. It's not very good on gas mileage and I have this new found joy of speeding! No speeding tickets yet.:D

Tru_Believer 02-10-2003 10:58 PM

Me too and I love my miata. I can go 300 miles on one tank of gas. Its very reliable, but as my mother says its a coffin on wheels. It was great while I was in college and single. Now that I am married and prepared to be a mother I think I need something a lil safer. In June I will be buying a 2002 Jaguar X Type.

I have a 2001 Hyundai Accent. If I had the money, I would buy a Hummer. Maybe I can get LeBron's mom to get me hook-up at her bank.... ;) :p :D

Really though, I want an SUV. Maybe a Montero Sport or something. (Although I won't turn down any Hummers that come my way :p ) The closest I'll get to a Hummer is if I sign up for the military and we all KNOW that WILL NOT HAPPEN!! :D

I don't have a car, but.....

I wanted to list a few cars that I'm interested in purchasing when I reach a significant level in my online business (I might even purchase ALL of them :D). All of them are 2003's. They are:

1. Mercedes E320
2. " CL600 (this will be the ONLY two-door car I'll ever own)
3. " ML320
4. Infiniti Q45
5. " QX4
6. " I35
7. Toyota Avalon XLS (this will be my first car  )
8. Maybach 62

Thay will ALL be fully loaded!!!!!!!!! :D :p

i'm looking to get a honda of some sort. civic or accord are suppose to be the best. they hold their value and run forever.

i'm currently driving an 89 pontiac sunbird that is ready to die. it has about 164,000 miles on it and has had it's engine rebuilt in the last couple of years.

depending on where i move (i'm thinking denver) i may have to get an suv which i really don't want to do, but it would be necessity up there.
