an online group for potential members?

There have been so many Beta-hopefuls recently, and their interest and enthusiasm got me thinking!

I do understand the rule that members must join through land chapters before joining online. Pledge training is an essential aspect of membership, and this training is probably most effectively done on a one-on-one basis.

HOWEVER, I think it is terrible that so many women have come to Greekchat wanting very much to be sisters, but there aren't chapters in their areas or the chapters are not currently rushing. I would love to "Friendly Venture" a pre-membership online chapter. Instead of just waiting and feeling frustrated, potential members could communicate with one another, share their progress, support each other during the wait, exchange ideas for Friendly Venturing, and find contacts in their area. I realize that Greekchat is already filling this need, but I can personally attest to the closeness that is fostered in an online chapter. I think potential members could benefit from the chapter format.

Active members would serve as "sponsors," sharing their experience and advice with potential members. The sponsors could also communicate with International on behalf of potential members.

Thoughts??

*Sitting up straight in her chair waving hand wildly*
Ooh! Ooh! ME!!

Just kidding!! Seriously, I would love to keep in contact with other PNMs while we're looking for our chapter.

daffodils 04-06-2004 04:39 PM

I'm interested as well

I'd love to get more information on BSP. I've sent an email to HQ's, and now I get to wait while my name is sent to local chapters - if there are any....

Any info/assistance while going thru the PNM process would be helpful.

Plans are still underway.

Ladies...
We want this online group to be a simple, pleasant resource for potential members, where interested women can get support from each other and from experienced Beta Sigma Phis.

Please post any ideas you have or questions that you hope this online group could answer.

Thank you.
Erica

I'd like to be apart of the online group as well, since I've been a PNM for what seems like forever

Jill1228 04-09-2004 12:50 AM

I think it is a great idea!

Krista#78 04-10-2004 02:20 AM

Awesome idea Erica, I LOVE YOUR ENTHUSIASM!!!!!! And now that I'm not quite so fallen off the face of the earth, I'd love to help out. I still feel like a new-bie even though I've been a member for almost three years... I think there's so much that even the members can learn, it's impressive.

It's good to be back!!! And welcome to all the new PNM's and Members and everyone new that's showed up in the past couple months! :)

online chapter

ME!ME!ME! ...

AlphaFrog 04-14-2004 09:36 AM

I am also a PNM-in-waiting....

daffodils 04-14-2004 03:45 PM

is there anything I should do while waiting?

I've emailed HQ's, and got the reply that I'm on their list. Is there anything I should be doing in the meantime?

I'm really hoping that there's a chapter near me, b/c I know I won't have time for a Friendly Venture.

Measi 04-14-2004 04:25 PM

Hey daffodils~

I'm a fellow PNM in waiting. :) Haven't heard from a local chapter either, but from what I'm gathering from reading here, the national site, and various chapter websites, things go by somewhat of a stereotypical school schedule within BSPhi... so the two of us might have contacted HQ's at the "end of term" in a sense.

I've been searching to see if I can find a local chapter using the internet in the meantime... I hope to hear from someone, though!

Way Cool!

I think that this is great that you are so interested. A good source with the online stuff at Beta HQ is Karen Ing...she is the one that kind of oversees the online chapters, which I am a member of Online Kappa chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.

You all certainly have my support!

Buttonz 04-16-2004 07:32 PM

That would be a good idea....I;m also a PNM...hopefully getting somewhere.........

I'm too am also a PNM in waiting. I've emailed HQ (in the last few minutes actually) so I'm waiting for their response. Does anyone know of any chapters in Kentucky? Or Cinncinatti?

Hi ThetaPrincess-

As a fellow PNM, I can definitely attest- the waiting is the hardest part! I heard back from Int'l within a day of giving them my info, but it takes anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to hear from a chapter.

As for chapters in certain areas, I'm sure the Beta sisters on this board would be more than happy to help you! Everyone on this board (sisters and PNMs) are so nice and willing to help. Good luck to you!

HeavenslilAngel 04-19-2004 11:37 PM

I am interested! Although I am a member at large in an online chapter already :)

OPAGal 04-20-2004 06:11 PM

As far as chapters in KY go. I can help a little I'm in KY.

I just heard back from Int'l and have sent them additional information. I'm so excited. I have also learned that there is a chapter in Louisville, KY only an hour away!!!!! Again so excited!!!!! I hope I get to meet them soon! :)

I'm so pleased that there are is such interest in an online group for potential members.

I'm excited about getting things together. I wish I could get to it immediately, but unfortunately, I have a lot going on. Graduation is in a month. I'm preparing to defend my thesis, and my husband and I are trying to buy a house. Needless to say, my plate is pretty full.

I will be in touch with each of you when things calm down. I think the online group will be a great summer project!

Thanks,
Erica

*bumping this idea to the top*
Now that I'm settled in at my parents' home for the summer, I'm ready to get moving with a PNM group. We have a nice list of hopeful participants, and I'll be contacting each of you to see if you are still interested.

Any one have a suggestion for a name??? I liked "The Rosebuds," but I think Kristi's chapter uses that for their pledges. I wouldn't want to steal that cute title! :)

Erica

erica812 07-16-2004 03:41 PM

It's finally happening!!! See my new thread about "The Rosies." I'm looking for PNMs, members-at-large, and actives who want to serve as advisors to be part of the group.

Erica
