American Dreams
By far the best show on tv.. (in my opinion).. its actually a quality show.. which is hard to find now on tv...
I was sad to see tonight that next week is going to be the season finale.. is anyone else hooked on this show like I am?? there are so many storylines going all at once on so many social and cultural issues.. |
I used to watch it more often last season, and I haven't been keeping up so much ever since JJ went off to fight in the war.
Saw the previews for tonight's episode, and it should be intense. Plus, that JJ is a damn hottie. :) |
i catch it on occasion... when I remember that it's on.
I enjoy it when I do watch it though. Especially when they bring in current pop stars to play the parts of bandstand stars. Always fun. |
I am SO hooked!!! It's second only to ER to me!!
I'm so glad that Beth is keeping the baby - and of course, I'd like to see her & JJ back together again. Was it me, or did Meg look MUCH better than she's been looking lately tonight? Like her colors really looked good on her. |
i've been hooked since the first episode!
i hate that after next week, i'll have to wait for a few months to see it again. |
I thought I was the only one who liked this show. It's a nice way to come down off the highs of Alias. My only complaint is that the show is becoming SO predictable lately.. like for instance (SPOILER ALERT)
I saw that Nathan was going to be getting a draft notice coming a MILE away. I also saw it in Perez's eyes that he was going to kill that new corporal, and that eventually it would end up being some big cliff-hanger while we wondered whether he would kill J.J. I saw the budding relationship between Meg and Sam coming ever since Nathan came back and joined the Nation of Islam. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out, especially since -- for a (welcome) change the interracial relationship is played out against a Northern backdrop, rather than in the South. |
I saw it last night too. It's kind of nice to know that Jack's softening up a little. I wonder if Beth would tell JJ about her pregnancy? Maybe that'll get them back together (fingers crossed!!!!!)? I'm also wondering what'll happen with Beth and school. I'm assuming that her parents were paying for her education. I guess it's not going to happen now that she's been disowned (and not to mention that an unmarried pregnant woman running around campus would have been seen as bad at the time). One more episode to go...for now. It's going to be a long summer.
|
For some reason I thought they were cancelling this show?
|
Nope. There's at least one more season!!! :) Next year'll be a full season, with 22 episodes rather than 19 like this year.
|
spoiler.. sort of..
My mom said that she saw Beth on I think the today show or something the other day. She was talking about being on the show and how she was on the cover of a bridal magazine.. then she mentioned how her friends called her after seeing the cover asking if she was getting married.. but she said that it was bc her character on tv was.. so I guess that means they are going to end up getting married soon??? I dont know though since last week is the last episode of the season.. maybe she will tell him about the baby.. i thought it was great how the pryor acted towards beth and the baby.. its there only connection right now to JJ.. I have to agree as well that he is a real hottie.. enough reason to watch the show;) |

I missed last night's episode! What happened?
|
Maybe someone can add more details.. but here is the main things I remember (I wash shaving my brothers head while watching.. what our big sisters for)..
JJ took over command of his platoon as they were heading back to where their staff sargeant was. They needed more help and were running out of ammo. Since they were under so much fire, JJ gave Perez his gun back. He ended up shooting a VC to save him from attack. Later needing a way out he risked his life running into a tunnel to see if there were VCs in there. When it ended they were still under heavy fire. The Pryors were under a lot of pressure from the church to lie about Beth being married to JJ. They talked to Beth about it at first thinking it was a good idea with people talking and Jack running for office. The Pryors invited Beth's parents over so that they could talk, but her parents were still unsupportive. The Pryors were also hosting a coffee at their house the preacher got up to talk about the family saying that Beth was married to JJ and having their kid. Jack ended up telling the truth. Meg went to a protest with Sam at Penn. When police were coming instead of leaving they stayed. They ended up being arrested at the end. Also Helen sees the guy she works with with his boyfriend. |
I love this show, too! I have seen every single episode! Ditto on JJ being a hottie ;)
|
Also with the update, Sam will probably lose his scholarship at Penn.
|
Season 3 premiered tonight. What does everyone think? Do you think JJ and Beth are going to get back together later this season? What does everyone think about that crazy new headmaster?

As for the new headmaster, he is really out of touch with the changes that have taken place. I love the reaction of the nun when the girls all came out of the bathroom. She had such a grin on her face when it became obvious that the headmaster could not control anyone. DaffyKD |
I'm glad the show is back on, and I'm secretly hoping that there won't be a picture perfect ending for Beth and JJ. I'm hoping for something a little grittier from this show as they get deeper into the societal changes that happened in the 60s. Patty is getting on my nerves, and HOORAY!!!! for Sam possibly getting a love interest. Roxanne is really starting to grow on me, and as for Meg...well, I can see where her trajectory is leading her, and I just hope she doesn't become a bleeding heart bore. Hopefully the addition of a new love interest for her this season will keep her preachiness to a minimum.
Brandy was no match for Gladys Knight - her voice just isn't powerful enough. Rumor has it that they might get Fantasia on as Aretha Franklin (!) at some point. I read an article in Entertainment Weekly recently where they talked to either the head writer or executive producer of the show, who commented that there are a number of eerie parallels between what is happening on AD and what is happening in the US right now. I hope that people might twig onto these parallels and tune into the show to help improve its ratings. |
I found it really interesting that the faculty at East Catholic tolerated the girls wearing make-up until the new head arrived. This would never have been tolerated at my school in the mid 90s. I remember the head describing what "proper uniform" meant by asking a girl sitting up front to stand up. Her shirt was tucked in, her skirt not too short (no shorter than 3 inches above the knee....probably shorter than "regulation length" at fictitious East Catholic in 1965) and she was not wearing make-up (or at least enough make-up that the faculty could see that she was)
...I did find the nun smoking in the bathroom after the girls were sent away funny :) |
I was so excited about the show coming back on last night.
Ok, maybe someone can help me… I was trying to remember everything from the end of last season with JJ. Didn’t that one guy kill the head guy then they arrested him, but then of course the guy they arrested was eventually killed. Though the guy from the defense was asking about that guy going MIA right? So I guess they never said anything about him getting killed by the other guy? I am can’t really remember all the details. I was wondering if that Defense guy was investigating what happened himself or was it just bc he was giving him the medal. Also, I was so happy that Beth told JJ about the baby last night. Even if they don’t get back together, I think it was important that she told him early on. |

Frankly, I find the show difficult to watch. It's not perfect by any means, but a lot of it hits way to close to home. |

I don't think JJ and Beth will marry. Seems like something might happen between Beth and scruffy dude at that bar she works at. I still think Sam loves Meg, so I don't know how this possible new love interest will play out. I don't see Mr. Pryor becoming a city councilman, what with Meg and her antics and Beth being pregnant out of wedlock and the church people turning against them. I'm hoping the mom will start standing up to the father! I was LIVID at the "I have college money for the boys" comment! I had to remind myself what time period it was again :) |

This is one of my favorite shows. I think it's one of the few shows that people can sit and watch and not be uncomfortable that their kids are in the same room watching it, too. I wish JJ and Beth would get back together, but I think something will happen to him in Vietnam. :( I think that Sam and Meg will get together at some point, causing more controversy!

Who saw last night's episode? Who thinks that JJ and the nurse might have a fling? What about Beth and Cal? These next few weeks will be very interesting!
|
Hmmmm so it looks like both JJ and Beth are going to be cheating on each other in next week's episode....well, they're not technically cheating, I guess...

If they broke up, how is it cheating?

Last night's show was one of the greatest moments in television history...until that five minute infomercial from Ford cheapened the entire thing.
I was sitting on the couch with MisterMadly and said "If there's a green Mustang in this commercial, I'm going to puke." Sure enough, there was a green Mustang, and it was owned by the father who had served in Vietnam. Oy. Despite that, I was crying like a big 'ol baby by the end of the show, and so was MisterMadly. Oh, and in entertainment news, AD made Entertainment Weekly's "The Must List" for the week of 11/26. They said: With a timely story line of a family dealing with an MIA son, NBC's once sappy fam-dram is now one of TV's most compelling hours. |

'66 Ford Mustang commercial playing on the TVs at Pryor's TV and Radio. Another Ford billboard on the Philadelphia city bus. And that bitchin' '66 Mustang ragtop in the garage. (Topped off by the '69 Mach 1 in the hokey informercial.) I cringed over the digital resurrection of the late Steve McQueen in the latest '05 Mustang commercial. Betcher ass they'll come out with a special 'Bullitt' edition before long, even though they already did once with the SN95 Mustang a couple of years ago. |
I caught those, AlphaSigOU, but while they weren't subtle, they were kind of easy to ignore (except for the big-freaking Mustang ad on the side of the bus Meg caught to leave the recruiting station). This show has gone over the top with the product placements this season: first Campbell's Tomato Soup and now this! This was one of the most powerful episodes in the show's history, and though I know you shouldn't bite the hand that feeds you, it just seemed like an egregious amount of tie-ins.
If they came out with a Bullitt version of the new 'Stang, I might be forced to buy one. That was one hot car... But back to the show: Nathan is my new hero. I was so glad that he stood up to that patient's son. Every time that patient called him 'boy', I was thinking "You got about one more chance to call him 'boy' before he goes off on your behind.' |
Question: before the opening credits, a news crew was talking to a guy who said that he bought an alarm clock for himself, and that he was in a hurry because his boss was always firing people. Was that just a random Apprentice joke, or was the guy a contestant on the show who was given a mini-part on AD? (I don't really watch The Apprentice)

I was boo hoooing like a baby during the show. I haven't seen the show once but I'm a sucker for Christmas episodes in general and then when I knew he was going to come home I was hooked into watching it. Without knowing who these people are I thought the show was excellent. I loved it.
Though, I didn't make the connection between the show and the commercial at the end. I'm a moron for not figuring out the dad was the Vietnam kid in the show all grown up welcoming home his son. The product placements didn't bother me so much. I was too engrossed with the storyline and the pretty hair styles and stuff. It was a great episode. |
