Poker!
Hey guys, i remember reading somewhere that Rudey played poker with his roommates. With poker being the latest craze of reality television, there's gotta be some players here. I just kinda got into it a little bit from my roommate last year - i don't think i'll ever get to the point where he's at, but i enjoy watching poker series nonetheless.
|
I play online sometimes, but I have yet to play with real money. I'd like to try, though, because I usually win.
|
I like playing, especially when I win.;) Poker and euchre are two cool card games to play.

Try to learn to play hold em. It's by far the best variation and requires the most thought. Also see about playing online. Partypoker.com is a really good site. I would put my wins at way way above my losses though for real life and probably 2:1 for partypoker now. -Rudey --Oh and here's a hint nick, don't ever shuffle cards like an intimidated girl. |
One of the guys in my chapter is currently up over $400 in some online tournement. Apparently, you can win money doing this.
It kind of makes the gambling laws in the state seem a little foolish, doesn't it? |
Euchre is awesome. Blackjack and Hold em are the only games that i've played for money. I wouldn't play for any serious cash unless i knew i was good, there's a lot of sharks out there and my roommate is one of them. Think of matt damon from rounders, he's putting himself through university with casino winnings. And he's got a whole group of buddies from back home that are all very good players. It's unreal the shit this guy knows, we're watching poker series and he's contradicting what the annoucers are saying, questioning why Phil Ivey did this, or why Hellmuth did that. unreal.
rudey, he has a pokerstars account, but prefers partypoker instead. I'm not gloating for Mike - but his presence and skill are what fuels my trepidation. As i type this, he's got 3 games on the go. If you don't believe me, i'll PM his name handle to you so that you can watch him. I don't recommend to play mike, as i don't to any of my buddies here in ottawa. It's funny, we hear how poker is a zero sum game and how all these props are living the lifestyle from a game of cards - well, it's gotta be at somebody's expense.....this is why i'll stick to blackjack. :) |

You'd be surprised how much money there is online. In a casual who-gives-a-fuck-attitude, he tells me how his $5 party poker account accrued to $1000 in a week...as ridiculous as that sounds... i'm like, holy shit, i'm not even gonna try to estimate that percent of a return....he just laughs, yeah but it's easy with low amounts, it's not like i could get that starting at 10,000... |
Nick he's not alone. The thing with poker is there are a lot of guys like that. I can fleece a lot of kids, but some dipshit freshman kid took me for a lot of money once because I didn't see past the numbers.
I assume he plays for real money too and not just 10 and 20 bucks here and there right? And I'm not shittin you on this but one group I interviewed with pretty much grilled me on hold em. As for blackjack - it's a lot easier since there isn't the psychological element to it. -Rudey --My favorite are the kids who make it a "game" so it's really ok to lose for them. |
I have the Hoyle Casino games for PC and I love it! Gotta love Texas Hold Em!
|
Some of the guys are playing right now.
One of the guys, Jewkakke, is wearing your normaltrucker hat and sunglasses....at 12:30 am.....apaprenrtly it worked. |
I'm all about blackjack.
I'm actually going to register for a 132 seat hold em tournament in Minnesota next Wednesday. We'll see how that shit goes. |
I play Texas hold 'em with my buddies. I'm OK, I guess.
|
Poker? I hardly know her.

That's just it rudey, playing poker with strangers is like picking a fight with a guy at the bar - you have no idea what you're up against. I had to laugh, one time mike bluffed a guy at casinorama with 2/7 offsuit to win the pot, the guy stands up and yells 'this %*#)( kid doesn't know how to play poker". Then leaves. |
I play poker every week with a bunch of friends. My husband plays online like 4 times a week, he plays low limits though, like $1-2 or so. I don't really like playing online because I'm better at reading people than dealing with pot odds.
So who is everyone's favorite players? I like Howard Lederer because he is so smart and doesn't ever seem to go on tilt or get razzled. And I like Andy Bloch too because he's local, went to MIT and Harvard. |
I like to play hold em.
I play on partypoker a lot, but I have yet to bet real money. |

The real question is whether your friend Mike has his own set of personalized chips haha. BTW someone recommended bringing down the house as a good read to me - I didn't find it interesting at all what they were doing in the book but maybe you will. -Rudey |
My roommate LOVES poker, and one of my "requirements" to live with him was to learn to play. So I am ok, I play Texas Hold 'em with the guys and do decent. I am reallly starting to enjoy it though! My roommate has these insane dreams to hold a huge tournament with 5 tables, cocktail waitresses, the whole bit.....he may be a bit obsessed.

Evidently it's not just my chapter that played it hard and made money; here's an article on poker at college and makes mention of Greeks.
