What do you call your formal/ ball?
I know some groups: Alpha Chi Omega is Red Carnation Ball, Pi Kappa Phi is Rose Ball, Sigma Nu is White Star and Chi Omega is White Carnation (not too sure about that one)
Ours is Black Diamond Ball (from the black diamond on our pin and one of our symbols-the diamond) or Emerald Ball (for our sorority colors and our jewel-the emerald). What do ya'll call yours? IS it a national thing or does every chapter get to name their own? |
ADPi Formal is called Black Diamond Ball, but I have seen some chapters that call it Diamond Ball.
My chapter is acronym crazy, so we like to refer to it as "BD" :) LOL |
The Alpha Gamma Delta formal held each Spring is called the "Rose Ball".
TKE's formal is called Red Carnation Ball
Pi Kappa Phi's Spring formal is called Rose Ball.
Most Pi Phi chapters and alum clubs call at least one of their formals or semiformals "Beaux and Arrows". That's what we call our formal in the fall. We also have a winter Snowflake Semiformal (used to be a Pledge Ball before that terminology went out) and a Spring Semi. I wish that had a better name... I suppose I could make one.
At my campus pretty much all the sororities do 3 formals/year now. To answer your question about Chi O, the Chi O's here have a formal called Persephone's Ball and a semiformal called White Carnation. Theta has a Twin Stars formal, I know. My boyfriend's fraternity (Pike) has never done a formal in the past, but they're adding one this year. Don't know what it's called. We're traveling to Maryland to see the Preakness!!!!! sooo giddy about that! Others I happen to randomly know: Sigma Chi Sweethearts KA Old South Sig Ep.. I've been before, but I can't for the life of me remember the name Sigma Nu White Rose (been to that one too) |
My APO chapter just called ours the end of semester banquet. How original. :D
Ours is the Royal Pearl Ball
Ours is Formal and Semi-Formal. Same goes for every other GLO on campus.
I've heard many different names for DG formals....
Cream Rose Ball (i think is most commonly used)... Anchor Ball Golden Anchor Ball Sailor's Ball feel free to add any more... |
Ours is the lions ball.

Every ADPi chapter I know calls theirs some form of "Black Diamond Ball". You have to admit that saying BDB rolls off the tongue easily!
I've even known of chapters that have everyone wear only black or white! |
At Ole Miss, our chapter called ours the White Violet Ball. At MTSU, the chapter there calls it the Crown Ball.
Our formal is "Rose Ball".
Sapphire Ball and it's in TWO WEEKS WOOHOO :D
My chapter called our spring formal the Pearl Ball.
Our fall semiformal was just the fall semiformal. :) |

our chapter had our "forget-me-not formal"
we do "Yellow Rose Formal"
My AZD chapter uses "Rose Formal" but I've heard some chapters call their dances "Pink Rose Formal"
Ours usually is just semi formal and formal. But this year since it'll be my last year to plan formal, I'm goin out with a bang. I think we might do a theme, and we're calling it "Pink Carnation Ball".
My DG chapter calls formal the "Golden Anchor Ball". Semi-formal is just Semi-Formal.
we always referred to ours at the Carnation Ball...i think many Phi Mu chapters do because i've seen examples of formal shirts that say it in greek tshirt magazines
We call our formal Anchor Ball. For our spring semi that we are having next month, we are calling it Spring Fling.
Our formal is called Emerald Ball, and our semi-formal/pledge preview is called KD Kisses.

Okay, now back to your regularly scheduled topic. :) We called ours just formal or spring formal though many chapters did use Sapphire Ball. |
We name ours from time to time, it's usually Crescent Ball. Other chapters have done Carnation Ball, Pink Carnation Ball, Crescent Moon Ball, etc.
We call it Blue and Gold Ball ... but we always end up picking a theme that has nothing to do with that
The Morning Glory Gala
My Chapter: Crown Cotillion
The chapter I advise: White Violet Formal |
Our formal is right before Christmas every year and we used to call it Christmas Formal. Since I graduated the girls have renamed it the Butterfly Ball.
We called our formal Sapphire Ball. I think most Kappa chapters call it this but I'm not sure.
Ours was the Fleur de Lis Ball, which gave us lots of options for graphics on the t-shirts and favors.
Formal and Semiformal. Any additional names depends on the theme (ex. APO: Trapped in Paradise Spring Formal 2000)
It's the White Rose Formal.
We just call our formal "formal" (original, I know) and it's held in the Spring, near the end of the year, generally the weekend after initiation.
Our Spring semi-formal is called "Beaux and Arrows". I didn't know other Pi Phi chapters did this. :) |
We called ours the "Stars and Crescent Formal"
Joint formals?
Who does joint formals with other sororities, and what do you call them?
I know Pi Phi and Kappa on many campuses have Monmouth Duo, Theta and Tri-Delt sometimes do Pansy Duo, etc.... |
