Any other Hockey fans out there?

Recently I've been obessed with Ice Hockey. Never in my life have I ever had any interest in it until about 4 weeks ago when I went to my first game with my girlfriend. I ended up winning tickets to our team here in jacksonville ( the Barracudas) for half of the season. Come to find out we're the best in the league and I think it's feeding my obsession with it. I love how the players get in fights all the time and just last week the coaches starting swinging with 6 minutes left in the game. I was just wondering if there are any other hockey fanatics here? Speak up and state your team.

Lady Pi Phi 03-16-2004 07:15 PM

Maple Leafs fan here.

One of the thing that pisses me off most is people that only watch hockey for the fighting.
Sorry, not ragging on you but there is so much more to the game than fighting.
The pure skill of these players is amazing. This is one of the hardest sports to play (trust me I know...I play myself). Anyone who can make it look that easy is amazing. The game is fast and intense.
I glad that you've taken an interest in hockey, because it's the best game in the world! (but that's just my humble opinion).
So learn the game and watch more than just the fighting because if you do you'll find that it's even better.

RACooper 03-16-2004 07:45 PM

Leafs fan here....

I agree with Lady Pi Phi... too many people watch for the fighting and not the action. As a player we always joked that the goons were the guys who couldn't play.

Not only am I a hockey fan, I'm a Blue Jackets fan. Now, that's loyalty :)

Blake who? Unless he's been shipped to Syracuse, I can't remember a Blake in the 2+ years we've been here? Come on brain, work already!

now i gotta remember how to spell his last name... i believe it is bellefeuille.. but it's pronounced bel-fay.

AOIIalum 03-18-2004 10:29 AM

Is this him? If so, he's on the Norfolk Admirals in the AHL right now.

Well, I totally know what you mean by their skill. I sit on the fourth row right behind the players box and I see them up close. Some of the moves they make look hard as hell. I see all the bullshit some of them get away with as far as whacking their opponent with their sticks when the ref isnt looking. Then you have the cheap shots where some of the players will double team one guy and slam him into the wall face first while swinging a couple of elbow shots. I've also notice the way they set up a run to the goal, sorta the same way you do in basketball. The fighting is what gets me pumped up as well as the whole stadium.

I'm a Tampa Bay fan.

Hahahahaha!!!

don't forget to bring a non-perishable food item

BSP_Nicole 03-18-2004 06:53 PM

Hockey fan right here. The Capitals are my team, but this year really sucks because we traded 6 of our best players! I cried when Bondra got traded :( , he was one of my faves! And what did we get in return for all of these trades: DRAFT PICKS! But as my aunt told me, "Draft picks are people too" (although I fail to believe her).

blah blah blah, don't you leaf fans get tired of talking jibberish....it's like watching bettman try to describe how amazing the NHL has fared over the last 15 years - all nonsense.

I'd rather take a two handed Belak stick to the face, than be caught wearing the Blue & White sack of shit.

Kudos to Chiarella for trying to weed the ugliness from the Corel Centre.

Wait, are you sure you didn't mean Marty Havlat?

The best quote in the Toronto Star article is this:

The Maple Leafs said there is no plan to retaliate by banning Senators jerseys at the Air Canada Centre when the two teams play in Toronto March 27 because there'd be no point.

"Nobody would wear them in Toronto. It's not that nice a jersey."

It's funny 'cause it's true :D

At least he's got talent, belak is azzzzzzz

I was just wondering if you find it ironic that 90% of leaf fans bitched and moaned when Cujo was replaced with Belfour - yet the latter is the only reason the leafs have as many wins as they do. Without the eagle t.o. would be pushing 60 points, lol.

RACooper 03-21-2004 06:44 PM

It wasn't even close to 90%.... just the most mouthy and loud ones :).... you know the type.... the kind that latch on to the "it" player and cheer away and comment on how great his style is... without even knowing what they're talking about..... a perfect example are the fans that worship Domi... he's a medicore goon and a sub-par forward, who draws to many stupid penalties; and yet if you listen to these fans at the bar, Domi is one of the star players........

Tom Earp 03-21-2004 06:57 PM

HOCKEY-SLOKEY! Was almost legal Mayhem until that dumb ass gave a cheep shot and drove another players neck into the ice and broke his neck!

What a cheep shot dick, sport, DA! Hope He gets His Ass Put Away for awhile!

Sport was being a COP and going after another person with a gun!:)

The same can be said in Ottawa for Lalime---He led the Senz to the presidents cup last year, and was the best thing since sliced bread. Yet this year I hear alot of 'trade the bum' talk, it's not just a Toronto thing and to say so is ignorant. We all want what is best for our individual teams, unfortunetly on occassion that requires jumping bandwagons. I was sad to see CUJO go and i didn't think belfour was worth the price paid, but he has proven himself and that is all any fan can ask. you can't fault a fan for being upset if a team trades a star player.

BaylorBean 03-22-2004 02:55 AM

Lets Go Blues!!!

CC1GC 03-22-2004 03:37 AM

Your reference to a Lalime-Belfour comparison makes no sense. I'm saying t.o. would be garbage without the latter, ottawa wouldn't be garbage without lalime - case in point, look at prusek's regular season numbers last yr.

Sorry, i didn't think toronto traded cujo. In fact, i'm quite sure he left to go to a team that he thought had a better chance of winning the cup, after all, didn't he sign for less than what he was offered :)
And if you're pissed off that cujo left the team, maybe you should blame management for indirectly causing him to leave, instead of deflecting blame to the guy who came in to replace him.

Do you really believe prusek could carry the team as far as lalime has? I'm not saying lalime has been playing well, but i doubt prusek could post the numbers he has...

I don't think i ever said i was pissed that belfour was playing, i think i said that i didn';t think he was worth the salary they were paying him.... but maybe i am just reading myself incorrectly.
