What is the largest sorority/fraternity chapter?
Browneyedgirl mentioned in Rush that there were two ZTA chapters in her State with over 170 members.
I was wondering what the largest fraternity or sorority chapter is that you know of, either in your group or another, and where it is. |
Phi Kappa Psi Chapters
Right now, our Kansas Alpha chapter, at the Kansas University has 98 in-house brothers, and about 150 active. Our Texas Alpha chapter, at UT has about 150 active too.

James,
Do we need to be reminded that this belongs in Greek Life? If we scold the new kids for posting in the wrong places, we need to scold the old ones too. I know its scary in the Greek Life forum, but you'll be ok. You might even get OTW to hold your hand over in there. lol BTW - our OU chapter is 175 or 180 men. In the 90's they were usually around 120, had a membership drop a few years ago and have apparently rebounded. |
Well lifesaver .. . . . I put it here so it would get more observations than chapter ops . . and then when it stops getting posts I can move it and archive it there.
Edited to add: I don't believe I have ever lectured someone on where to post their stuff. |
The following Pi Phi Chapters have over 200 members. There might be more... but these are ones off the top of my head.
UTx-Austin Ole Miss Auburn Baylor U Ok USC Texas Tech |
Boy, this is easy.
The Fabulous Xi Chapter at the University of Arkansas, Fayatteville. Current chapter counts put them at about 150-160 I think, and their house holds 100 easily. This is the baddest Kappa Sigma chapter, and they know it. You don't go down there as a pledge, at all. Hell, you don't go there as an active unless you know your sh*t. http://comp.uark.edu/~kappasig/cooper-front.jpg |

I will get stats and repost later :) |

Alabama (according to Greek Life) has 160 members. The range at Alabama is 180-66, with Kappa Delta being the largest! |

I couldnt tell you whos lectured whom on what goes where. |
Thats why I posted it here ;)

The chapters at UCF have ranged from 150-200 over the past few years. This due to having pledge classes that have ranged from 65-71 new members.
Looks like your thread got moved anyway.... |

There is also a thread on here somewhere that discusses chapter with over 100 members. I don't have the time to do a search right now, I just remember posting in it a few (?) years ago. Of course it may have been lost in the post-9/11 GC shutdown. LD |
I have no idea where ADPi's largest chapter is, but I know Baylor is home to Chi Omega's largest chapter. Campus total is in the low 100s, but some chapters are way over that, and others are way under.

Here are the largest ADPi chapters as of February 2004:
1) Auburn 217 2) U of Florida 207 3) U Missouri-Columbia 205 4) U of GA 198 5) U of South Carolina 194 6) U of Kentucky 181 7) Clemson 180 8) Florida State 176 9) U of Central Florida 166 10) U of TX-Austin 164 |
Largest fraternity at GWU is SigEp w/105 guys
Largest sorority at GWU is Alpha Phi w/108 girls |

I think they're all pretty close in size anyway. We have close to 250. I'm not sure anyone knows which one is the largest..I'm sure it changes all the time too. Every chapter has a couple of members drop out every year...so I'm sure it all just depends on that. |
Our Gamma Delta Chapter at Auburn University has 222. That is our largest chapter!
Dee |
Oklahoma and University of Central Florida are the biggest DU chapters-around 150 members.
|
The sororities at Ole Miss have anywhere from 190-250 members. I am pretty sure though that the Phi Mu chapter at Ole Miss is the biggest Phi Mu chapter in the USA and Canada. There was an article in their National magazine about their growth and the number of members they have.
For AOII, the bigger chapters are: U of TN at Knoxville UGA Ole Miss Oklahoma Bama Auburn Florida Illinois I'm sure aopirose knows better than I do.... |

i would have thougth that Miami of Ohio would have been on that list.. |
I believe our biggest chapter is Phi (St. Louis) with 110+
Michigan and Mich State apparently aren't that far offf either. |
The largest Pike Chapter is at Florida State with around 170 men. The next closest chapter(s) have around 120.
|
I will only add Kentucky and Ohio University to round out the Top Ten largest chapters after fall FR with UGA being the largest. After spring FR, Indiana knocks out Oklahoma.

I was wondering where Indiana stood as far as large chapters. I know our sorority chapters are pretty large...though I don't think they are over 200 members large! The chapters are easily over 100 members each though...

I have stats for 6 of the 9 chapters at Ole Miss... DG has 240 members... XO 242... Pi Phi 214 and Theta 191. However, I do not have exact numbers on DDD (I am guessing around 260) and Phi Mu at 251? OleMissGlitter will have to help out with AOPi... I do not think I have an accurate number.... |
AOII at Ole Miss, we have 203 on the roll. But that might change because we have two girls who are transferring to UGA and many seniors this year. But I guess all of the sororities will go down in numbers because I know they all have many seniors this year. But I mean, if they go down to 170 they all will still be huge because I don't see us asking a new sorority to recruit this fall yet so quota will probably be high in the 80s again. Anyway, I think Tri Delta has about 270. I think Phi Mu and Tri Delta are the biggest, but I mean all 9 houses are large here and are all very good here. I'd have to say that all 9 sororities are in their top percentage of their GLO's. I know the Phi Mu's here are the biggest and probably one of the top 5 chapters in the country. I also think the Chi Omega chapter here is one of the tops too.

D Phi E's largest chapter is probably the University of Florida with around 170.
|
I believe our largest chapter is James Madison...they have around 150 I think. After that would be Truman State & Northwest Missouri (or maybe it's Southwest...always get these confused).

Alpha Omicron Pi was one of the weaker sororities when I was at IU the first time around...they never met quota back then and even reorganized in hopes of improving before the chapter was closed initially. For them to be the largest sorority on campus now and to be as strong as they are...that just speaks VOLUMES to the people who worked on the colonization and the ladies who are members now. Great job! :)

Wow, Sister Havana, thank you for the kind words.
-Katherine |
Miami of Ohio should be on the list of largest ADPi chapters. We are currently at 186 members.
|
I don't have ZTA's numbers (Barbara maybe?) but I would assume that our largest chapters are at U of Texas, Auburn, Clemson, U of Florida, U of Central Florida, Florida State, U of Georgia, U of South Carolina, and U of Alabama.
